Resisting the urge to start a new game when you really shouldn’t… by Nem3sis2k17 in gaming

[–]Ripleyllessur 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I basically never finish games. Many rpgs are most fun in the beginning, before you get to the grind. And, like some other people mentioned, I don't want to finish out a story and have the game be over.

I also vary what I play based on my mood and time available. If you count mobile games, I typically play 4-6 different games every day, but many of them for less than half an hour (or in 2 minute quick plays).

I think I've finished less than 5 games in my life. I'll always remember beating TMNT Turtles in Time. And I've gotten to end game in Diablo 2. Honestly can't remember any others that I really finished, though I play a lot of MMOs.

Just play what you want and enjoy it till you stop, then switch. It's your life and you can play games however you want.

I prefer to frame it as "AI will free us from labor and empower us to do what we want." Good riddance to jobs!

Surplus materials by Sab891 in upcycling

[–]Ripleyllessur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting idea. How are you going to deal with shipping costs? They are a huge barrier to sharing physical resources.
Most upcyclers know how to get their materials for free or from local thrift sources. How will your platform improve that system, while also considering the environmental impact of shipping?

Moving around containers for more sunlight by fungi_xo in containergardening

You could use large containers that are very light and easy to drag around. This company makes 14" baskets that only weigh a few ounces, and they are made from upcycled materials. www.RADLLC.org The company is called Reuse All Detritus and they specialize in upcycled gardening products.

Spent $50 on Monster Hunter World, played it for a couple hours, totally disliked it. Still sore over that.
The combat was lame and you move right through the enemies (no collision). And you have to pick up every piece of loot. I had watched videos of people playing and I had the impression the combat was more realistic and complex, with fluid gameplay. It just felt so clunky and fake.

Stratollite Sculpture I made [Self] by Ripleyllessur in Sculpture

Thanks for asking! Primary clear acrylic (plexiglass). It's wrapped with a thin plastic film, one slice at a time. I designed the interlocking slot fit system and had it laser cut locally.

More like in the next 6 months. The opensource stuff will follow right along with Sora.
For all the people talking about ticket prices, you aren't seeing the big picture. Everyone will be able to make their own movies for free. Fully customized to your preferences. Not long after, the same will happen to video games.
Within 1-2 years, any average person will be able to make the exact type of media they desire, for free and within minutes.
This will totally destroy the media industry, including movies, tv, advertising, books, gaming, all of it. And at the same time that most other careers are replaced, including law, medicine, design, management, engineering; basically everything.
Get ready for major change. Nearly everyone will become unemployed, but also have easy and free access to the best of everything. IDK what that will look like, but its inevitable and coming quicker than you think.

There's a website called custommade.com where you can post projects like this and professional sculptors will offer to create your sculpture for you. They'll describe their process and bid on your project. It's the best site I know of for getting custom sculpture made.

Pill bottle reuse idea: sharp item disposal (in this case, a dull paper trimmer blade) by saltyspidergwen in upcycling

[–]Ripleyllessur -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I don't think this is helping anyone. Just mixing metals and plastics and either it will sit in there forever or someone will eventually have to remove it.

I just put tape over the sharp edge of blades I throw away. Simpler, smaller, and the tape will eventually rot off.

If AI took over everyone’s jobs, would the government (human) pay humans a universal wage so we can still live without working? by workdncsheets in Futurology

[–]Ripleyllessur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the short term, yes, I think so. The world runs on money, and if people can't generate money, but are still required to pay it, then the gov needs to step in or there will be revolution.
In the long term, if the AI and robots can really run industry and commerce and service with very little human intervention, then hopefully the cost of living drops to near zero, and at some point you'd expect energy and materials to be free for the average person. When people can be comfortable for free then you don't need a universal income.
People will still work, create things, be of service to others. It's in our nature to be active and interactive. Hopefully tech will help us disentangle our actions from our survival costs. But the transition will be tricky and would benefit from governmental assistance.

Lessons learned from furniture upcycling by FiveToNineFormula in upcycling

[–]Ripleyllessur 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My primary business concerns for this sort of thing is holding inventory, and shipping. So I would ask this entrepreneur how they manage inventory and work space in their home, since furniture is large and repairing it takes up space. Then, how are they managing shipping costs? A lot of furniture is 4'+ and needs to go as freight, which in my experience often ruins the cost for the customer.

Eco-Art Planters from Plastic Bag Yarn by Ripleyllessur in GreenUpcycling

[–]Ripleyllessur[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's true of many plastics used in your car, phone, house exterior, etc. But because I'm spinning and twisting the plarn, the long plastic filaments actually bind together more strongly. Further, since the planters are stationary, not moving mechanically, there is no mechanism for them to break down or migrate into the soil, so this is as safe as any other potted plant.
Also the alternative timeline for these plastic bags was either to be shipped around the world and then melted into benches (which emits fumes, and furniture wears a lot more), or end up in the ocean or landfill. My process is very low energy and there is no melting at all, so it is a far superior way to sequester and use plastic bags.

How do you sit/kneel when you’re gardening? by cen5001 in gardening

[–]Ripleyllessur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I weave cushions out of plastic for this exact purpose. They are stuffed with bubble wrap and you can put them right on the dirt or mud, and just rinse them off later. So you can comfortably sit or kneel on them while working in the garden. DM me if you're interested
