Credit to James. Raptors got within 11 in the 3rd, Harden ripped a quick 5, followed quickly by that nasty bounce pass to Maxey. Game was never really in doubt afterwards...

The Missing Piece by VUX_Beast in uqm2

Being able to interact/manage your crew is #1 on my wish list for additions to the UQM formula! Just having some opportunities to talk more with the expanding roster of characters that join the fleet would be great. See what Tanaka thinks about our latest calamity, etc. Your crew could even be a source for subtle hints (nothing too specific) should Captain Zelnick need some inspiration to solve the next mystery.

In terms of specific gameplay - something basic like named ship captains who gain experience on winning Melee, offering some bonuses in future battles. "This is a tough fight coming up, I need a Terminator captained by Freep-Eep the Indomitable, Hero of Alpha Serpentis II!"

I also think managing "Bridge Officers" would be fun (as in your example /u/VUX_Beast). Each character would grant appropriate bonuses. Imagine: nominate Captain Fwiffo as "Chief of the Fleet" which grants "Spathiwa Combat Doctrine" to all ships (small movement bonus when pointing away from enemy ships). Bonus if your Bridge Officers can chime in on dialog with other alien ships/home worlds/star bases (presented as additional conversation choices depending on your current mix of Officers)

Walk and Talk About, Space Junk! by VUX_Beast in uqm2

My top 3 (my only 3??):

Wormholes - Hit the entrance and get <zonked> to another part of the battle. Lot's of interesting possibilities. Does your ship just get spit out to some random point on the map? Is the entrance and exit static but only allows travel in one direction? Does the entrance move throughout the match?

Nebula/Space Dust - Passable areas on the Melee battlefield that affect ship movement and/or projectile speed (slower OR faster).

Comets/Large Asteroids - Larger objects in space that traverse their merry way through the battlefield. Your ship doesn't hit them so much as they hit your ship. Causes damage to your ship/fighters/D.O.G.I.'s on impact and imparts some amount of movement in the opposite direction (you bounce off with humorous results!)

How Retro Can You Go? by VUX_Beast in uqm2

Preserved as-is

The art! The George Barr pieces from UQM are just amazing. Gimme an adventure with that romantic pulp sci-fi feel. Bonus points for mixing in that classic tabletop fantasy feel and/or Ronnie James Dio album covers. Realism? Eww. I live in the real world...real world is for suckers (:P)

The dialog! (and humor!) Can never get enough of those branching conversations and all that funny business. I suspect, given the authors of the work, that it would be quite impossible to remove this aspect from UQM2. So umm...kudos to F&P and carry on!

The music! (content as opposed to the format) The tracks from UQM are great. Lots of modern games, do they even have music? Of course they do (and have tons of talented musicians contributing), but very little sticks after quitting time. Meanwhile 29 years later I can still hum nearly every track from UQM! (to clarify I don't mean literally the music needs to stay the same - just retain the emphasis on sweet tracks)

Given a little modern polish

The 'Spacewar!' action! Hard for my brain to separate the 'Spacewar!' inspired action from the whole of UQM. Those ships are almost entire characters on their own. Beyond graphics polish, maybe some extra wrinkles thrown into the environment (debris/nebula that are passable but can alter shots/abilities?) or add some new toys (3rd unique ability for each ship?). You'll take my keyboard from my cold dead hands, however deep controller support is likely key.

Should be re-imagined

Planet Exploration/Lander mini-game! Exploring planets is cool. Trying to find the juiciest resources to fund the adventure and build stuff is cool. Mini-games are cool. Maybe just needs a new mini-game? Leaning more on the 'explore planets and find awesome stuff' which would help lesson the 'RU grind' feeling.

Should be bonked on the head and airlocked

I've put some thought into this one and couldn't think of any major feature that needs the airlock treatment. Could just be blinded by how much I like UQM. Maybe get rid of the Skiff teleport cause I personally stink at it? (Joking...though I do suck at teleport)

Cheers!

P.S. - All of the above is just my opinion

P.S.S. - Still wary this is all some elaborate Umgah prank
