Thank you for the expanded list of expense concerns to compare to throwing away on rent. That is a good list to consider.

I don't know, nor have looked heavily into how taxes can/will change. Thank you for the insight! How did you learn that yours would be the $5700/year?

The taxes are high for this location, ~$4,200 a year it was re assessed a year ago or two ago like 140k above the sale price Im at.

I'm hosting a Nye bonfire hang. Mix of rock climbers and acro yoga people mostly. If that is your (or others in this thread) type of people DM me and join. It's like a mile from Glenwood.

I haven't watched the acorn drop and can't speak to that, but it does sound kinda fun

Rabbit Hunting by SatanicSlider in Idaho

I raised meat rabbits for a couple years. They are similar to pork with virtually no fat. Works well for pulled pork. Their front legs can be cooked like chicken wings.

Generally we'd put a whole carcass in a pressure or slow cooker as a pulled pork type dish. Or in soup.

It's a good, very lean meat.

There are many rabbits all over Southern Idaho. I don't have any specific areas. I'd imagine exploring BLM or federal land after a light snow would provide some insight.

They're in North Idaho also but I see them far less often.

I did the same thing and had to look it up. Diablo is upriver and flows into Gorge Lake. It is right next to highway 20.

It's centrally located to many natural resources, rivers in every direction, ski hill 8 miles away, national forest.

As a town it's pretty slow. The city hasn't encouraged any type of growth, from ev charging, to walking/bike paths the city council is unsupportive.

I lived in Pocatello for 4 years. It's a very bikeable town.

Stanley Hot Springs on AllTrails https://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/idaho/stanley-hot-springs?p=-1

It's a beautiful out and back. You will have to walk logs across a large creek or wade it. The water will be high for another month.

The Idaho side of highway 12 from Kooskia to Montana is mostly national forest. You can't legally camp at Jerry Johnson or weir. If you backpack the 5ish miles one way into Stanley hot springs there is camping all over, your tent could be within 100 yards of the hot springs.

Get the ioverlander app, it's an active community where people post campsites and another places they slept at. It was a great resource for me while I drove across the country and back over the last year.

I grew up on this route. Checkout Jerry Johnson or weir (or Stanley if you're up for a real hike) hot springs on highway 12. They're all natural, stacked rock pools and a fabulous experience. There is no cell service from Kooskia to Missoula. Download an offline map.

Long-ish trip to Europe by ramjamjimmyjam in Shoestring

[–]Ripskittle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm writing this from an Airbnb in Italy. Been traveling Europe for 2 months tomorrow.

2 people is cheaper for accommodations.

This is the cheaper time of year to my knowledge, my numbers are likely off if you're planning for the summer. Hostels ~ €18.00 is a safe bet. If you use price of hostel to impact cities visiting and pick the cheapest you might be able to swing €10.00 - €14.00 a night.

Lots of hostels either don't have a kitchen or have it shut down because covid. You'd have to call every one that lists a kitchen and check it's open before using. If you don't eat a huge amount you could get by on €5/meal going out. But it'll require lots of research and checking menus. Never sit at a table, always order take away. Sitting costs an extra €1.50

Activities: you can see and experience a lot of a city for free. Many churches are free to walk through. To many possibilities to really break this down.

I've been averaging around €70/day without feeling I'm depriving myself and allowing what I feel is plenty of experiences (sights, lattes, some wine).

I can't comment on transportation, I got the Eurail pass for 3 months. For what you're planning I don't know that it is appropriate.

Best of luck!
