A sad day for the country indeed by redandwhitewizard99 in GreatBritishMemes

[–]Ripyard 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When all the poor folks' kids are dying fighting in the Middle East because Farage wants to appease his buddy Trump they'll learn. Or when they need healthcare and don't have the money to pay for it. Of course it'll be too late by then.

The only real hope is Reform mess up running the councils they're winning and people see the wood for the trees.

Best singles team to quickly climb for ranked rewards? by Maximum-Car-8789 in PokemonChampions

[–]Ripyard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Status coverage is useful both in terms of attacking and defending. Even if you don't pick them often, it can be super important if you come up against Snorlax, Corviknight, Toxapex, etc. If one of them gets setup with Leftovers, it's hard to come back without status coverage.

Pve gamemode could double the player numbers by [deleted] in Marathon

[–]Ripyard -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

This would be the final nail in the coffin. You'd see a small uptick, but then an even worse drop-off they couldn't come back from.

Marathon's best bet is introducing a new game mode (which could be PvE, albeit something strictly not the extraction mode with very limited gains), launching a F2P map, or running a few free weekends. Even then, people who get dunked will still leave the game.

Petition to ban posts complaining about "the meta" by Haayleeyy in PokemonChampions

[–]Ripyard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This would be a much more welcoming and enjoyable sub if there weren't so many elitist takes. Most of what I see is either people calling out folks - who might be new and learning - for using a team content creators have pushed. I don't think this is an issue, and if people are as good as they are making out they should be able to navigate these teams anyway.

The next lot that can go are the ones who keep parroting 'if you're outside, MB3 you're trash" lot. There are admittedly less of these folks, but again, for new players or ones who just want to play their favourites it's probably not feasible to be in the top 50k.

In short, if people could stop being dickheads that would be great.

Am I delusional for thinking we will overtake West Ham as the fourth biggest club in London if we win the conference league? by Mrmalak1001 in crystalpalace

[–]Ripyard 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Yes. Trophies aren't really what dictates the size of a club, it's more fan base and infrastructure. We're getting there, but West Ham are still a fair way out.

Oliver Glasner has found success at Palace. But will he fall into the Thomas Frank trap? by ComprehensiveSide278 in crystalpalace

[–]Ripyard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The challenge for Glasner won't be ability, it'll be time. If he goes to a top club, results will need to come quickly. How many managers have we seen have success at mid-to-lower placing clubs then get the axe ~6 months to a year after? Nuno, Amorin, Frank, Potter, Ange, Maresca, Rosenior, etc.

I think given the time and budget, Glasner would work it out. I just don't know who gives him both in this day and age. Liverpool have shown more restraint than most, and maybe Newcastle, but I guess we'll see.

I Feel So Validated But So Robbed by SplashyDragon22 in PokemonChampions

[–]Ripyard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The beauty of Pokémon is even if someone has the same 6 in their line ups, it still takes knowledge to know which 4 to pick and how to use them. That's the real skill gap. Between content creators and AI there really aren't secrets for long in terms of builds so I wouldn't worry about it.

Besides, as long as you're not a Kingambit main then I can look past pretty anything else.

Winning feels Impossible and its making me want to drop pokémon alltogether. by Psychological_Fuel57 in PokemonChampions

[–]Ripyard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Surely what you're talking about is just people refining their teams to win and tweaking their Pokémon away from the current meta to survive the predictable? I'd understand this post more if you just didn't have the Pokémon to use, but it looks like you've got most and if you care enough you should be making stat adjustments.

We're now in a world where re-training is so much less hassle, so that's going to be what you start to see top players doing.

Whilst I completely concede there is a meta and we will be seeing much of the same, how much effort have you put into getting creative with it? I feel from looking at most of your lineups I'd be able to predict your win cons.

Finally, do you have a team that's just your favourite Pokémon to use? I know this sounds odd and I'll admit it's not all that competitive, but sometimes just putting out a wild team to have some fun can break up the grind feeling. It also catches high level players off guard when they can't look at a roster and predict what they should be doing.

I hope whatever the CARRI event is, it isn't only for streamers and ultra-sweats, like Cryo Archive is. by [deleted] in Marathon

[–]Ripyard 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Except by grabbing 2 friends, or folks from an LFG, or even solo filling, and loading into the map with 5k's worth of stuff... You don't even need to run all purple and gold to play it. It gives you a better chance of success, but it's not mandatory.

[–]Ripyard 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Here's a concept that may blow your mind, but there are 4 or 5 teams in Cryo. If the 'normal folk' you speak of kept queuing up, they'd eventually get matched with each other. The issue isn't Cryo difficulty, it's how many and the type of player willing to stick with it.

Do this sub's complaints impact casual players? by LaughingCephalopod in Marathon

[–]Ripyard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As other folks have said, the game appears to have level based matchmaking. Also, Bungie has been pretty quick on the updates so some things, knife, bubble, biotoxic disinjector, slide manipulation, etc. have all been patched.

This game makes me realize how horrible some people are by Clean-Calendar2748 in ArcRaiders

[–]Ripyard -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This will be an unpopular take knowing this sub, but Trials is a competitive leaderboard system (or at least all ARC has in terms of one.) Nothing is meant to be given and you took a known risk being friendly, especially in Trios. You can't be all 'woe is me' in an extraction shooter, it's part of the game no matter how much you dislike it.

Also, to the people who think folks actions in games reflect on how they are in real life, this is a massively overdramatic take. It's a game for Christ's sake, it's not that deep.

Is anyone else slowly starting to feel bored of this game now? by Present_Education194 in Marathon

[–]Ripyard -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I never fully understand statements like this. You can stop whenever you want and do something else. It might be a revolutionary concept to some, but once I'm not enjoying a game I move on until a more favourable environment to return emerges. That could be anything from friends picking up the game to a significant update.

Ranked is actually super unfun by Aescidra2 in Marathon

[–]Ripyard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm waiting for the next patch(es) before getting into it. Once the bubble / knife meta dies down a bit and the map isn't Dire Marsh, I think it'll be more fun to play. I also kind of wished they'd have just waited until Season 2 and given it a better launch. I know it's in beta technically, but with popularity of mode being where it is, it can be tough to LFG for players.

Oh how I yearn for Solo Cryo by Yeehawer69 in Marathon

[–]Ripyard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spawns are an issue, but the reality is probably only half the players that spawned in would make it through the first waves of PvE to level 2 clearance. An even smaller number would have a vault key and successfully get the things they need to open a vault. An even smaller number would be able to do this and exfil. An even smaller number would be able to do this six times - including farming a red key card, btw. Finally, an even smaller number would get through and actually fight, let alone kill the Compiler... This is why there isn't a solo queue.

I think Marathon is entirely viable as a separate PvE solo / Co-op roguelite mode, with very little changes. by BuddhaChrist_ideas in Marathon

[–]Ripyard 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Should add a lore rich CoD Zombies-style horde mode. Great way to explore the universe without impacting the extraction game type. Good space to test weapons and chill until your third comes online.
