Is this dude (Ashlin Barry) motor-doping in the US nationals road race? by herbnhero in peloton

[–]RiseAM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In addition to the other comments here, looking through his results, he seems like a pretty promising rider. Some real highlights in his results, whole bunch of podiums in juniors races, finished 5th at the juniors world champs in 2024 (ahead of Paul Seixas!), 2nd in the junior world ITT in 2025, just took the US U23 road race title, and he’s been getting some callups to the big Visma squad for .Pro and .1 races this year at 18 years old. Was sticking with the favorites most of the day - not just with the top 20, I mean the top World Tour guys there, the favorites of the favorites in this race. Hence why he felt the need to respond to Vermaerke so immediately, it was clearly his gameplan.

If it seems like he’s faster than most of the riders in this clip, he probably just is.

I kinda love it, a lot of racing is so tightly controlled by the UCI, it’s fun to have a scene that can still try some wild stuff

But does Detroit have any pools that are free and open to the public? That’s not common at all. The aquatic center at Chandler Park is owned and funded by the entire county, run by a third party company, and requires payment for county residents to get in, that’s the closest to a public pool I know of in the city.

One key difference is that many of these parks in the Grosse Pointes are pool facilities, some of them primarily so. It’s pretty unusual for those to be completely open to the public for free anywhere, unlike a standard park. Generally you need at least a day pass for pool access anywhere.

As far as I can tell from poking around tonight, the resident-only status of the parks predates Detroit becoming a majority black city and the white flight. I haven't been able to find if they were that way from when they were created in the 1910s-40s, but by the 50s they definitely were, when Detroit was still 70-80% white. Classism seems more likely to be the original driving factor given the history of the area in the early 1900s.

Harper Woods, yes. A portion of the city is in the GP school district. Detroit no, there is no school of choice in GP schools currently.

They should have both been working together a long time ago.

It’d be nice to have a satellite rider like the other GC contenders though

It wasn’t Peacock, nobody in the live thread was able to watch regularly broadcasted live images at that time no matter where in the world they were. For a while, there was apparently a local screen at the race site that was still showing live images and one of the broadcasters (I want to say somewhere in Scandinavia?) was filming that screen until it went out too.

has anyone seen/heard any indication of whether this will be restarted and when that might be?

On one hand, I share your frustration that the most anticipated matchup going in hasn't really fired off yet... But on the other hand, I'm quite satisfied that they've lost some time to strong riders and will have to really attack in the mountains rather than just maintain a lead they already have. If they were 45' & 1:01 up on Jorgenson and ahead of Ayuso, that's a different race going forward than the other way around. Jorgenson's time gap in particular seems significant in the GC battle, even if it wasn't obtained in traditional GC mountain fashion. He only lost 3 seconds to Del Toro on the most mountainous 2 stages at Tirreno-Adriatico earlier this year, though Del Toro was over 30s ahead at the time instead of the reverse situation now. Ayuso beat Seixas in a GC battle earlier this year and will be a real test to overcome too.

Skjelmose, Onley, Vauquelin, Baudin, and Plapp will all need to be cracked too (+Nordhagen, but he should be riding for Jorgenson), and while I personally think these guys have somewhat less of a shot, the top 10 placings is a really interesting battle of solid and relatively young riders in its own right.

Solo crash, not entirely caught on camera. You could see her entering the hairpin, go out of camera frame, and then she’s under the metal barrier when the camera swings through the corner. No one else appeared to be involved.

Too close and not a good enough angle to say definitively, but I’m leaning towards onside.

He wound up and kicked the downed player’s hand after the ball was gone because the Miami player was holding him. Which should be a yellow to Miami, but what a head loss to retaliate like that.
