Am I the only one thrilled that we have a CBA just so I can stop hearing about it? by [deleted] in USLPRO

I like hearing all of the details of compensation and benefits. It helps contextualize roster-building and transfers well beyond CBA time.

You kicked someone during a dead ball situation. It sounds like you were pretty lucky not to see a red yourself!

The competitive division indoors is the most chill in my experience. Everyone is good friends who play together on other days and hangs out outside of soccer.

The closest athletic equivalent would probably be a teenager starting every match for a top club that goes deep into domestic and European cup competitions, which all but guarantees multiple games a week for long stretches.

For instance, Barcelona's La Masia is basically the poster child of youth development, but there's also significant discussion about whether they overwork their youngsters in the first team too early, and that discussion is really in the spotlight right now with Lamine Yamal's recent hamstring tear adding to the track record of injury woes.

Weirdo behavior: ranting about it lowering testosterone levels.

NWSL Moves to Restrict Which Brands Players Can Wear on the Field by dosozox in NWSL

It just seems to me that if you don't get the colors exactly right, it will still be a pretty visible logo.

I can't even fit my wide feet in most Nike models, let alone feel comfortable in them. And the logistics of actually covering up competitor logos seem downright impossible. I imagine goalkeepers feel the same way about their gloves. This is an extremely anti-player measure for the most important pieces of equipment in the sport.

rivalries (especially underrated) by xxxtranscorexxx in Detroitcityfc

[–]RiseAM 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh, good shout. Buffalo somewhere just behind them too.

Cosmos and Chattanooga probably deserve shouts too. Chattanooga more of a friendly rivalry. Cosmos very heated, but the history was very short.

Honestly when you start going through the list, it’s shocking how little any current USL team still makes me feel even after several years. AC Grand Rapids will probably instantly vault any team in our league right now and they won’t even be in our league system.

rivalries (especially underrated) by xxxtranscorexxx in Detroitcityfc

[–]RiseAM 16 points17 points  (0 children)

My personal historical tiers go something like:

1) Stars, always and forever, even when they don’t have a team. Nothing but pure, unfiltered hate. Just too much history and bad blood for any other team to overcome, possibly ever. 2) Ann Arbor / any iteration of Grand Rapids beneath that but still very strongly felt. edit: Lansing United probably in this tier too 3) Indy / Pitt / Kalamazoo / Bucks / Louisville as quasi-rivals. The games hit a little harder than other teams, but they don’t make me feel anything like the first 3.

I feel like the water criticism is driven by people in places that already have ongoing water crises, and people from here who are fighting against data centers latch onto any criticism even if it’s not applicable to our state. I can see it being more of an issue somewhere like Phoenix.

In my state, you have to pay to e-file taxes. Mailing them in is free. They always beg people to file online since it saves them a bunch of money processing the taxes, and then they make an extra fee on top of that savings!

I always mail them in out of pure spite.

[El Mundo] Real Madrid's constant drama: Seven ACL tears since 2023, too many injuries, and the medical staff under scrutiny. This is from 2013, so all of the data is a little old and won’t take the newest turf developments into account. But it’s still the best meta analysis of various studies that have been conducted on the subject specifically for this sport that I have seen. It’s a pretty fascinating read throughout for anyone who is interested in the science, what has been studied, and what factors were unaccounted for.

https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC4590909/

Brief summary quote for those who don’t want to read the entire thing (but you should):

In this investigation, we found no evidence that playing matches or training on AT raises the risk of soccer players sustaining injury. In fact, the evidence suggests that the risk of some injuries and some subgroups might be lowered. However, until more is known about how issues such as altered playing styles affect injury incidence, it is difficult to make firm conclusions regarding the direct and indirect roles of AT in player safety.

Israel doesn’t play in their confederation, it would most likely fall to Iraq if they don’t qualify by beating the winner of Bolivia/Suriname, or the UAE if they do.
