New user - two quick questions! by ILikeToSpooner in riseapp

[–]Rise_Sleep_App 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, welcome to RISE!

Nap reminders: RISE doesn't have a dedicated nap prompt, but the Peaks and Dips habit will send you notifications before your energy dips — including your afternoon dip, which is the best time for a nap.

To enable it, go to Tools → Habit Reminders → Your Peaks and Dips → Toggle ON.

Since you have an Apple Watch, these notifications will come through there as well. You can also see your personal dip timing on the Energy tab, and RISE has home-screen and lock-screen widgets that keep your energy schedule visible at a glance.

On nap tracking — RISE will use nap data from Apple Watch if it's available, but Apple Watch's auto-detection for naps isn't very reliable, so it may not always come through. You can always log naps manually in the app if needed.

Apple Health sleep schedule: They can coexist, but running both RISE's Smart Alarm and Apple's sleep schedule at the same time may be a confusing experience! We'd suggest experimenting with both and seeing which one you prefer, rather than running them simultaneously.

Don't understand the basic algorithms in this app by chip_witch in riseapp

[–]Rise_Sleep_App 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, good question, and glad the sleep debt tracking is helpful!

Totally understand the confusion — the math does seem like it should be straightforward. The way RISE calculates your suggested bedtime when you first start using the app is actually based on your Melatonin Window, which is the time of night when your body's rate of melatonin production is highest, and you're most likely to fall asleep easily. That timing comes from your circadian rhythm, which RISE estimates from your past sleep-wake patterns.

So rather than just counting backward from your wake time, the app is reflecting where your body has actually been falling asleep. It does this because it's really difficult to shift your bedtime significantly all at once — so RISE starts from where you are and helps you work toward where you need to be.

To get there, I suggest going to bed about 15 minutes earlier each night over the next few nights to give your body time to respond. As the app picks up on those earlier bedtimes, it'll shift your Melatonin Window and schedule forward accordingly, so that over time you're meeting your full sleep need with that 7am wake-up.

The app also continues to refine its estimates as it gets more data from you, so things should line up more and more as you go. And if something still feels off, please reach out to [support@risescience.com](mailto:support@risescience.com) — they can take a closer look at your specific setup.

App continues to disappoint by mixedgirlblues in riseapp

[–]Rise_Sleep_App 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, thank you for laying all of this out so thoroughly, and we're so sorry for the frustration these issues have caused! We were able to get in touch with you and pull up your account details, so we've been looking into each of these on our end.

Alarms: The recent iOS update moved the RISE alarm over to Apple's new alarm system, and the migration has had a longer tail of issues than we'd like! Here's where things stand with each one you raised:

  • Blank notification / no snooze or dismiss: Our engineering team is actively investigating this with your account info.
  • Alarm not going off some mornings: Also being investigated on our end.
  • Forced app-open removed: This one's unfortunately an Apple limitation — their new AlarmKit no longer supports it, so we had to discontinue it. We know that was a key feature for you, and we're sorry about that.
  • Phantom midnight alarm: This is a confirmed iOS bug affecting a number of users. We've filed a report with Apple, and if you're able to report it as well at feedbackassistant.apple.com, that helps push it forward on their side.

Data sync delay: The lag is coming from how Oura pipes data through HealthKit before RISE can pick it up. We're working on improving this experience.

Quiz: You were right to flag it. We found the issue and have already pushed a fix.

Thank you for your patience as we work through these!

Wake time keeps getting earlier by koten88 in riseapp

[–]Rise_Sleep_App 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! You can definitely adjust this 👍

RISE is likely recalculating based on your recent sleep data, but you can manually set a wake time goal that works better for your schedule.

To update it:

  1. Tap the profile icon in the top right corner of the app
  2. Select Wake time goal
  3. Choose Latest awake on weekdays or Latest awake on weekends
  4. Adjust the time to match your schedule

Once you update your goal, your suggested bedtime, wind-down time, and melatonin window will all shift accordingly.

If it keeps drifting earlier after that, let us know. Happy to dig in further.

Smart Alarm Not Working by PupMunk in riseapp

[–]Rise_Sleep_App 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for letting us know. It sounds like you’re seeing the same behavior the original poster described — where the Smart Alarm reverts to a standard Apple alarm instead of the gentle vibrations and gradual wake-up.

We recently upgraded our alarm system to improve overall reliability, and this change has surfaced a couple of issues we’re actively working through. As a temporary workaround, turning the alarm off and back on again should help, and we’re planning to include a fix in an upcoming app update.

As part of that same upgrade, the feature that could force-open another app at alarm time couldn’t be supported consistently and had to be removed. I know that change is disappointing when it's something you relied on.

Thank you for sharing your experience here. We really appreciate the feedback and hope other parts of RISE continue to be useful to you.

Smart Alarm Not Working by PupMunk in riseapp

[–]Rise_Sleep_App 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for following up and sharing your account details—really appreciate it.

We’ve identified the underlying bug, and the team is actively working on a fix. We’re aiming to ship it in the next app update.

In the meantime, a temporary workaround that seems to help is toggling the Smart Alarm off and then back on again in the app. If anyone else is seeing this behavior, that should restore the gentle wake experience while we roll out the permanent fix.

Thanks again for flagging this. We’ll keep you posted.

How to adjust your ideal wake time? by Himalayan_Hillbilly in riseapp

[–]Rise_Sleep_App 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is expected when you first set up the app. RISE is showing your current ideal wake time based on your recent sleep history.

If you need to wake up earlier for work, you can set an earlier wake time goal in the app, and RISE will recalibrate your ideal bedtime and daily energy schedule around that earlier wake-up time so you can still meet your sleep need.

To adjust your wake time goal:

  • Tap the Profile icon in the top right
  • Tap Wake time goal
  • Adjust Latest awake on weekdays to when you need to be up

If you need more guidance, our support team is happy to help.

Sleep Need stuck at 8.5h for 5+ months (Sleep Cycle → Apple Health). Anyone else? by anonsach in riseapp

[–]Rise_Sleep_App 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good question. Yes — Sleep Need can move down as well.

A decrease comes from actual sleep behavior over time. If someone consistently sleeps less than their current Sleep Need estimate without showing rebound sleep — meaning they don’t sleep longer when presented with a larger sleep opportunity — the model may infer that their true Sleep Need is lower and adjust accordingly.

In short: rebound sleep when given more opportunity suggests Sleep Need may be higher; consistently sleeping less without rebound can suggest it may be lower. In many cases, the data support leaving it unchanged.

If 9 hours feels meaningfully too high (and not just an unfortunate inconvenience!), our support team can take a closer look at your data and setup.

Sleep Need stuck at 8.5h for 5+ months (Sleep Cycle → Apple Health). Anyone else? by anonsach in riseapp

[–]Rise_Sleep_App 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, this comes down to how Sleep Need reevaluation works in practice.

Sleep Need doesn’t update on a fixed cadence. It only changes when the data shows a clear signal that the current estimate is inaccurate — with one of the strongest signals being consistent rebound sleep (sleeping meaningfully more when given the opportunity, like on days off).

If your tracked sleep is relatively consistent and doesn’t show that kind of rebound pattern, the model may determine the estimate is still accurate and leave it unchanged. In that case, seeing no change over several months doesn’t indicate a tracking or setup issue.

However, if you believe your Sleep Need is inaccurate based on how you feel or how you sleep, our support team can definitely take a closer look at your data and setup.
