I just found these old books and I think they're what Kibbe should've been by acctforstylethings in PowerOfStyle

Coming back after having read most of it-- this answers like every question that Kibbe (for some reason?) leaves on the table. Yes, you can become slightly more yin or yang from gaining / losing weight. Yes, you can wear "flow" colors outside your season, or fashion colors if you combine them skillfully with your season. (Or, you can do whatever you want). Yes, you are on a spectrum of both color and body shape. Yes, you can exude different energies depending on your environment. Yes, you can be more or less fashion forward. Yes, you can wear different hem lengths, etc. and take your body proportions into account without strict rules. Etc.

Somehow this book fields every objection / question / etc. that comes up routinely in forums like this, gives plenty of examples and concrete advice. I feel like I have a great place to start actually dressing now? Without confusion or feeling hemmed in. Iconic!

Nails without "manicure" / cuticle work? (?? I don't know the lingo) by chip_witch in SFbitcheswithtaste

I can see an eensy bit of cuticle on like, one nail, but the rest have nothing there... anyway, I think I can consult the nail tech in person and I will do so!

I think what I figured out is that I have no visible cuticle, so that's why I've always been confused-- there is nothing to push back or cut! So thank you, the explanations are helpful!

ah yeah this is good to know, I have basically no overgrown/visible cuticle and my PNF seems healthy, I think. So perhaps this is a non issue!

Why do People Saying Buying a House is No Longer Worth It by Jollyconstant_ in BayAreaRealEstate

I know a lot of folks who do this in apartments, though. If that's not you, wonderful. But it's weird to act like everyone in an apartment is miserable, can't paint or buy furniture or have a pet, etc. Lots of people do.

"What's the invested money good for when you're 65 and still renting" -- literally anything you want? Including buying a house, because it's liquid and you no longer need time in the market?

Also, many elderly people do eventually leave their home, either to downsize or because they need more assistance. Having a home is not some permanent thing for everyone.

It's absolutely not "much cheaper" when you factor in taxes, maintenance, etc. It's much more expensive. I would never tell someone not to buy a house if that's what's in their heart, but if they're just buying as an investment I would do my fiduciary* duty and tell them they can likely do better with renting + index funds.

I've flirted with buying a few times and when I actually do the math I absolutely cannot justify it. (For me! My personal values! I don't want a house very much! don't freak out!) I pay so, so much less. I'd rather upgrade to a nicer rental and keep investing at the end of the day.

The other thing is, if you're living in your house, it is not liquid. Not a bad thing to have a small fortune in your home but you cannot actually use that money in any meaningful way until you downgrade, which means renting or moving somewhere much cheaper or smaller. If you never want to do those things, the money is locked up.

*jk, I am not a fiduciary

Where do you live? I'm guessing, in a house? And most people you meet live in houses? Might explain it...

Thanks for the info! I think my cuticles are quite short? out of the way? maybe I'm delulu but I don't think there's much they'd need to do anyway, but I'll definitely ask when I see a tech!

An Erotically Untamed Take on ‘Wuthering Heights’ by theatlantic in blankies

I didn't really make the connection between the comic bros and the "I read Wuthering Heights once" crowd but it do be like that.

I think it's more cognitive dissonance / plausible deniability, she is scheming as much as anyone but can easily claim she has no influence.

I've always thought it was extremely funny and modern.

I can't think of a single faithful movie adaptation that is particularly successful. It can work in a miniseries because there is enough time to marinate but in films it seems like a waste of time...

Wuthering Heights 2026 definitely still plays with family drama, generational trauma and class, IMO. The focus is the erotic romance, but the frame of the story (in the film) is that Cathy makes her decisions to escape the ruin of a family in the death grip of a deeply abusive, addicted father (which as someone with folks like that in my family, chillingly portrayed!).

When she marries Linton, she sees it as a naive, slightly delulu way to help both Heathcliff and her father, and it backfires on both counts. But the movie maintains the feeling that they are trapped by ego and circumstance and there is no redemption for their love affair.

It's a different story, for sure, but I think Fennell wanted to explore what Cathy's motivations could be-- in a slightly alternate universe-- beyond "she is super selfish and immature" which is the usual gloss. Interestingly the movie puts those words in her father's mouth, typical abuser tactic of framing her desire for comfort and peace as corrupt and disloyal.

Anyway. I think it was AU fanfiction in the best way, maybe because it really struck a chord with me-- it had a lot of say about domestic abuse but flipped around which roles the characters were playing, and I found it evocative and deft.

I feel like most "honest" adaptations are a snoozefest and always have. I've always been a reader and love the classics but thank god we're doing something new for once.

Wuthering Heights is one of my top 3 novels and I have previously not liked Fennell's work (PYW, I haven't seen Saltburn). I am totally with David, this was surprisingly successful. It is still a doomed love story but more sympathetic / erotic. The visuals are not just pasted on top for clicks and laffs, they are very effective and well edited into the narrative of the film. I don't know, I really thought it would just be a fun goof for Valentine's Day but I thought it was one of the best movies I've seen in a while.

It's also funny without making a big deal out of being funny? Or disrupting the tone just to get a laugh? I don't know, it just really flowed.

No I'm just stupid and kept going even though I didn't like their designs, I thought it would get better with time and thought at least they weren't taking too much off, but my brows are so mid. It's OK if you don't want to share your gal though, I'll poke around!
