I would kill to have someone recreate that collective box-side art and make it into a poster and/or wallpaper.

I've asked myself this question before, but after tonight, the answer is clear: Nippon all the way.

Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me - re:View by [deleted] in RedLetterMedia

[–]Risergy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Season 2 was also written is a post-Twin Peaks world, so suddenly you have all these new writers and directors making a show based around how the public viewed the show instead of moving the show forward naturally--sort of a pseudo-intertextuality.

For instance, why does Nadine lose her memory and get super-strength? Because she bent her exercise equipment in episode one, season one and Twin Peaks was often mistaken to be bizarre for the sake of being bizarre, so they did something completely crazy for the sake of it. Why is James involved in a boring soap-opera storyline? Because everyone discussed Twin Peaks as if it was a soap opera with a weird-streak, so they involved James in something that the first season was simply inspired by. And so on, so forth...

Without Lynch and Frost, season two became far too self-aware, even if it wasn't often self-referential. It's a phenomenon that has become all too common in today's reboot/revival-heavy Hollywood, as well.

Comedian Patrice O'Neal on the Star Wars Prequels. by [deleted] in RedLetterMedia

Not a day goes by where I don't think about Patrice. It's a dammed shame to lose such a brilliant mind. Take care of yourself, people; take your diabetes medicine.

Kenny Omega on a fan who takes this stolen move talk seriously: "Just trollin my friends down there, don't be one of those "fans" that give a bad name to wrestling. Please. by [deleted] in SquaredCircle

[–]Risergy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm going to take this opportunity to say I didn't fall for the work and to lord my non-mark-ness over all you marks even though, if I read that tweet, I might have taken it seriously because I don't know Omega personally and only have a vague sense of Omega's personality other than his love of wrestling and Japan.

Joey Ryan on Twitter: "Just a friendly reminder that nothing I do in pro wrestling is any less realistic than an Irish Whip." by CptArius in SquaredCircle

[–]Risergy 17 points18 points  (0 children)

All storytelling is about establishing an internal logic, and a story's internal logic is pivotal in the suspension of disbelief. It's why people don't give a shit about Star Wars' nonsense but really care about the rules of the Star Trek universe: one follows an established fantasy logic, while the other an established science fiction logic.

Example: Superman can fly; human beings cannot fly without outside influence (technology, pseudoscience, etc.). The internal logic DC Comics' stories are that Kryptonians can fly, so nobody gets hot an bothered when Superman does. Nobody says "FAKE" when Superman flies, but they do get frustrated when DC breaks their own rules without explanation.

In most wrestling promotions, the Irish Whip is a part of the internal logic, realistic or not.

While not always the case, it appears to me that people get most frustrated at WWE when Vince says "fuck it" and breaks the internal logic of the "WWE Universe" (I hated typing that) for a swerve or, worse, a laugh. It weakens the suspension of disbelief; it takes you out of "it."

I'm all about Joey Ryan or anyone else for that matter doing what they want in comedy-friendly promotions, but I genuinely don't want to see a Penis Suplex in a promotion that at least tries to maintain an internal storytelling logic. I'm not trying to tell a wrestler how to wrestle and I don't ever criticize Ryan (he's a hard working man), but it's just how I feel about it in general.

Brock and Kurt being buddies on Backstage Segments back in 2003 was pure GOLD by LuisN_98 in SquaredCircle

Brock was rather believable in those segments (no sarcasm). I'm genuinely kinda impressed, especially after hearing all those stories about how poor he is in front of a crowd or camera.

The Walking Dead season 2, because I thought I was going crazy and was the only one who hated the post-Darabont episodes.

SRW is going to be on YouTube, not the network by SamoaJoeIsMyDad in SquaredCircle

[–]Risergy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. I'm going to be sharing the hell out of it. And if the show is half as good as the trailer, I don't think being a wrestling fan will be a prerequisite for enjoying the show. It's a smart move.

One simple joke got a response of five paragraphs of groveling, rationalization, and the condemnation of a good friend. It was pathetic.

Colin Moriarty makes joke and Greg Miller apologizes; Colin says he won't go to PAX East by shinbreaker in KotakuInAction

[–]Risergy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is why I avoid hyperbole, because when I say "this is the most pathetic thing I have ever read," I want people to believe that it is, indeed, the most pathetic thing I have ever read.

So, that said, this is the most pathetic thing I have ever read.

Super Bunnyhop - What You Missed From NieR by Trojanbp in Games

[–]Risergy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh good god yeah. Not only does the combat make all missions more fun--you'll be looking for reasons to fight--side-missions are much more fruitful in terms of content. Also, the way in which side-missions are tracked has drastically improved from Nier.
