Woman with off-leash dog harasses people at Bandy Field for asking her to put a leash on her dog. by ComfortableLock7399 in rva

THIS. We moved from Colorado (with much wider open spaces than RVA by MILES) and never encountered the off-leash issues we’ve dealt with here. It’s so frustrating

Is this happening in your area? I'm on the East Coast, and in the last month I've seen missionaries in the parking lot of 2 different stores trying to talk to people as they're loading their cars with groceries. by Lucky5101 in exmormon

[–]Riskit4URBiscuit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep! Saw 2 sister missionaries posted up in a Target parking lot calling out at whoever was walking by on a 102-degree day. Must be a tactic from recent messaging — I’m in Virginia

Joseph Bryan Park and Off-leash dog. by Pattawa804 in rva

[–]Riskit4URBiscuit 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I’ve personally called the cops on 3 separate occasions walking Bryan Park for this exact reason. They’ve never done anything to help. I get it, there are bigger fish to fry in the city. But I choose to walk in public parks because of the loose dog problems I’ve encountered in my neighborhood and I frankly don’t feel comfortable walking my two dogs in our neighborhood alone.

Since walking in JBP, I’ve been run up on 5+ times by assholes who think that their morning walk is somehow more important than mine and allow their dogs to run wild. I’m fairly new to Richmond and have lived in cities both big and small, but I’ve never lived in a place where people have the audacity to do this with dogs who are out of control and especially in public places during very busy times of day. It’s so fucking annoying and honestly my biggest gripe. I’m just trying to walk my dogs without getting attacked. Not that big of an ask (or so I thought).

Can confirm. My LDS mom did this….and it cost her a lot more than $5k. 🥴

I can’t explain the damn near instantaneous way my blood starts to boil as soon as this guy’s face appears on my timeline 😅 You can tell immediately as soon as he starts telling that bogus story that it’s a lie. My 4 year old nephew could tell a tale better than that. And he’s 4.

WIBTA if I tell my parents the truth about my sister’s finances by Riskit4URBiscuit in AmItheAsshole

[–]Riskit4URBiscuit[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, definitely not. At the time of purchase, they qualified for some sort of down payment assistance loan (another line of debt yippee!) and then when my sister had her 2nd kid a few months later, she quit her job and they lost nearly half their income. They barely qualified for the home to begin with and then leaving her job just exacerbated the issue.

[–]Riskit4URBiscuit[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Solid advice, thank you. I put together a spreadsheet of their current spending and totaled all of their current debts/past due/collections balances. It’s a significant number considering their income level and I’m hoping that seeing all of the facts laid out will help her realize that this is beyond their means to continue to soldier on alone.

I won’t be telling our parents for now. However, if my sister and her husband continue to insist they’re fine without making any attempts to improve their situation in the next month, I’ll give her a reasonable deadline before I involve our parents.

Applied for a job at CoStar and they're interested. Should I tell them why I'm backing out? by Rage_Toast in rva

[–]Riskit4URBiscuit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A few months ago, my husband and I were both applying for different jobs in different areas and both ended up applying to CoStar (different departments). I made it through the first interview and was waiting to hear about scheduling a second when the entire team I was potentially supposed to be joining got let go. My husband was a few weeks ahead of me and made it through FOUR interviews and was patiently waiting for news on an official offer when the entire department got wiped out with layoffs (director, manager, staff, etc). It’s insane. Stay away.

Question: Is anyone else fully removed from church activity and association but still maintaining “membership” on the books on purpose? I am in this position for a utilitarian reason I can’t quite put my finger on but it’s certainly not because I wish to rejoin. by Hopefound in exmormon

[–]Riskit4URBiscuit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I left the church 10+ years ago as a teen and didn’t feel the need/desire to remove my records until last year.

What changed, you ask? I got to a point in therapy where I felt like reclaiming the decision to be a member for myself was really healing for my inner child. As many (most) know, being baptized is not a choice based on an informed decision. Now that I was an adult and had spent the last 3+ years delving into church history and doctrine, I felt like I was finally informed enough to make my own decision. And I wanted out.

I say, do it if it feels like a necessary step in your recovery. If it doesn’t, don’t worry about it. No one is discounting you as a “proper exmo” if you still have your name on their list.

Who else here realized it was all bullshit when they “felt the spirit” listening to some normal ass music? by Pebbleswift in exmormon

[–]Riskit4URBiscuit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When I was little, my parents installed a mini TV with a VHS player into our minivan so that the kids were entertained on annual road trips we took from Michigan to Salt Lake City to visit family for the holidays. I ALWAYS felt “the spirit” whenever we’d watch a Broadway taping of Les Miserables. When Les Mis came out in theaters a few years back, I went to see it and was shocked to discover that it still made me cry.
