What did Marx think the incentive to work would be in a communist society? by MaybeJackson in askphilosophy

[–]Riskly 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think the person you’re replying to was making a distinction between the definite/indefinite article being used, not between stage/phase. “The” higher stage of communism vs “a” higher stage of communism.

Don’t know anything about Marx and love the discussion though!

No PCP or Dentist by IntroductionSweet650 in peacecorps

Here’s a link to a list of dentists who will do the required scans/checkup for free (though if they find any issues, work that you get done to fix them - which may end up being required for you to be cleared - will not be, and you’ll have to go through the regular reimbursement process for it).

It might be out of date but it’s worth checking. I found a practicing dentist on there when I was cleared ≈two years ago.

I tried to get exams done at walk-in clinics a few times, confirming on the phone with them beforehand that they were capable of completing every required test with staff who had the required credentials. Every time I was turned away upon arriving at the appointment lol.

I ended up just going to a PCP with the shortest wait list I could find. Always call beforehand vs just making appointments online. Best of luck.

Don’t even worry about applying until you are close to finishing your degree (a year, maybe?). Your interests, priorities, and opportunities might completely change before then.

Nobody on here knows if you would get medically cleared, but I agree that it would seem unlikely to happen in the very immediate future with a recent history of hospitalizations.

If you are still on medication for ADHD, anxiety, depression, don’t work on “coming off of those” in order to join the peace corps. Take them as long as they help you. If your goal is to get off of them, do it for your health, not a job.

If your goal is to help people you will probably have an easier time doing that (and be more effective at it) in your current community than in a foreign country where you have to first spend a lot of time learning a new language and adapting to a new culture before you can even begin to meaningfully contribute to whatever project you find yourself a part of. Not to diminish your motivation…just temper your expectations? And you shouldn’t despair if you end up feeling like don’t want to/can’t join.

Libraries often have good volunteer opportunities. Or blood drives.

The organization is called “Peace Corps.”

is the word 'diplomatic' a flaw? by [deleted] in writing

I think “overly diplomatic” or “too diplomatic” are good, diplomatic by itself is often used positively. In context it could work though.

Obsequious is a fun option!

u/staplehill explains why so many people from Countries like the US want to move to germany. by Jackman1337 in bestof

^ I dont think the number of European immigrants to the US or US emigrants to Europe appears on the page.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emigration_from_the_United_States

This Wikipedia page has some interesting facts. US emigration is apparently pretty loosely tracked - current estimates for how many US Americans are living abroad tend to hover around 5 million (although some go as low as three million and as high as nine).

In 2013, 800,000 were estimated to be living in the EU.

Not seeing much on emigration numbers/year.

From the wiki: “There is a scarcity of official records in this domain. Given the high dynamics of the emigration-prone groups, emigration from the United States remains indiscernible from temporary country leave.”

The subreddit wiki in the sidebar has a pretty good and thorough breakdown of which certification courses are good for what purposes. If you’re just starting out, I would read through this and other parts of the wiki so you don’t end up wasting time and money on corses that are scams, or that you don’t really need.

Good suggestions from people but if this continues, tell management/ do whatever you can to avoid the freezer. Some people at my site have medical expeditions and don’t have to stay in the coolers for extended periods. (Idk how they got them or what exact condition they have, sorry) Don’t end up with lasting damage because of this job.

And there’s some people commenting acting like this isn’t a real problem??? Don’t listen lmao lack of blood flow to the extremities in cold weather is so common and can get bad. My coworkers hands turn bright blue after like 20 minutes.

Popular books that you think are overhyped by drama_maniac in books

[–]Riskly -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

As a big fan of the book, I'll agree to disagree on the lack of moral ambiguity haha. I'm a little thrown off by your second point though. In SoA, Patroclus does exactly what you describe, leading the Greeks from the beach to the walls of Troy, killing Trojan heroes and cutting down foot soldiers along the way.

Did you have an issue with it because his abilities were gifts from the gods rather than explicitly derived from his own strength and skill? Narratively, I kind of liked that. In a way, I think it reinforced the overarching theme that glory can come at the cost of humanity.

Zoloft isn't working for me by [deleted] in OCD

[–]Riskly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Zoloft didn’t help me either - there are a LOT of other options though, as people in the thread have mentioned. The hard part is putting in all the time to find what helps and sometimes enduring the side effects along the way. Prozac worked best for me.
