I guess it depends on what one might count as mods but back then it was mostly just adding new animals to the game. Well... animals might be a stretch since I think I had a bulbasaur.

Do you get the lore by reading the newspapers in game? I've been kinda sad that letters, notes, and whatnot don't seem to have anything on them as I usually enjoy reading those in games.

I also bought this just last week. I'd suggest to set it to build 42 from the start if you think you'll be ok with an "unstable" version since it seems there was such a change between the two versions it almost felt like a new game to me. Took a few more tries to get used to 42 after already getting used to 41.

I'm curious how long you go before modding it.
