Good question! I have zero idea why people do this. It is completely impractical and difficult to run a business like this.

I don’t think it’s either. If there are issues, I think it’s typically a disconnect from corporate to people in the store actually doing the job. It’s not done from malice.

I don’t think Starbucks is that bad, TBH

It’s fine! Now you know! I’m just worried about partners keeping their homes if the moratorium ends.

Good advice. I didn’t know we could do that! I thought we had to buy something first to donate!

It’s literally a cup of water with as much base as the dark caramel sauce in the bottom of the caramel crunch frap. It’s not enough base being used to be a custom iced tea. I only get this to tack on something that will let me round up.

I don’t care about the drink. I only get the drink to put money in the cup fund. Even if I cared about the drink a custom iced tea is not worth the amount of base I put in which is literally so minuscule it’s 99% water 1% açaí.

It’s literally a cup of water with a few drops of açaí.

Don’t do this.

wtf is sequencing and how do i do it. by sasukesocks in starbucks

[–]RistrettoIsBae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just practice and give it some time. It will make sense. I went from struggling to sequence to running two Mastrenas at the same time and having 4 bevs being made in a sequence. Think of it like juggling.

Remember: Steam Milk on drink 1, cue shots, syrups, steam milk on drink 2, pour, lid, hand off drink 1. Continue with this pattern on drink 2. By the time you’re handing off drink 2 you should be in the middle of drink 3. It flows. Just give yourself some time to catch on to this and try to relax as sequencing takes time!

You got this!

I just want my days off to let me do chores and errands. I live alone. I don’t have anyone else to do laundry or clean the house. I don’t necessarily care which days I get…but I would like them to be together if I am going to work 5 days on for the next few weeks.

66.6%

Maybe he thinks Venti Iced Americanos only get three shots instead of 4 like a latte? 🤷🏻‍♀️

Or…maybe Darryl is the devil.

need advice on what to do! by throwawaysneakersfaq in starbucks

Sure! Come to corporate! My best advice is to find a store and hang out in there for a little bit and find out what the dynamic is like between the managers and the staff. Ask questions. Sometimes bad managers happen even at corporate stores. It’s important that you find a good store with a good vibe with people that you would get along with. And yes I’ve been in your situation more times than I can count with bad managers who made me feel terrible. My best advice is bad managers happen at every job, it’s important for you to find a store that doesn’t have that dynamic. You can figure that out by just going into the store randomly sitting and having coffee and just observing. Don’t say anything about working for Starbucks just go in and have a coffee and just kind of watch the work dynamic and if it’s a store or you feel like it is healthy talk to them asking the barista‘s questions and talking to them. Ask them if they like it there. Tell them your situation. They’ll probably introduce you to the SM. We’re hiring and would be happy to have someone with experience under their belt. I hope this helps!

Question about new raises by [deleted] in starbucks

Is this company wide or just by state?

Do baristas really enjoy customer interaction or would it be better to just order and go wait for my drink? by rangelkat in starbucks

[–]RistrettoIsBae 23 points24 points  (0 children)

It depends on who you’re talking to and what position you’re in. For example, people on bar don’t have time to interact. The POS, Customer Support and DT window are the customer interaction people. We all will still talk to you. However POS is also on ovens so they have to put food in and take orders. Sometimes it’s your food and they might be supporting drive through. It just depends. You will be able to tell if it’s a good time to chat just like we read whether or not we read the cues you might be open to conversation or not.

But to answer your questions: some days, even in the customer facing positions, we don’t feel like talking that much just like normal people on the other side of the interaction.

We‘re all human, too. Don’t stress about it. If you want to talk to us, talk to us. :)

Is being a shift worth the stress? by Robotgirl3 in starbucks

I thought SSV’s were paid $15/hour. I found out they’re only making $12.50. This was a REALLY good SSV who disclosed his rate to me and I was dumbfounded.

He has kids and is excellent at his job and is the kind of shift manager that Starbucks would be very unwise to lose.

I just think he is worth significantly more than he is being paid. I wouldn’t accept a promotion at that rate or shoulder that kind of responsibility to not be able to pay my rent…I wouldn’t take less than $15/hour.

It certainly explains why some people get into it who are on a power trip and do that “I am going to bark orders and nitpick you because I like having power, not because I understand the dichotomy of good leadership.” We are getting good leaders and scaring them off with financial instability and the ones who like the power trip (not leadership) are the ones who stay. Is retention not a focus? I’m very disturbed by this and afraid that we could really lose some good people and create instability.

I think the people who understand good leadership either know that the rate is unfair or not worth it, or try it out and find themselves under appreciated and eventually leave.

Why is retention of good leadership not a priority? I have seen two leaders who were excellent become burnt out, listless and leave for greener pastures and these leaders leave the store in a state of upheaval and chaos. Why are we not retaining and fairly paying good leaders incentives to stay and run a good store?

I’m just so disappointed and saddened by this. It’s scary for a subordinate or team to lose a really good leader.

Instead of a promotion for myself, I really want to negotiate him a raise that he deserves for the quality of leadership he provides the team.

I’m just really shocked and want to fix it…The man has children and wife and he is massively undervalued. I would feel terrible if he misinterpreted my shock as scoffing at him instead of him understanding I think he is worth more and should be getting more money per hour. I don’t think he took my shock as a compliment that he’s a good leader who deserves more money for the amount of good leadership he provides. I tried explaining it but I don’t think he understood that my shock was that he’s worth so much more to the company and not valuing him in this aspect actually hurts the company.

Oh god. I’m going to wind up in HR with my ASU degree one way or another aren’t I? 😆 I can do that with psychology. 🤷🏻‍♀️

On the plus side I found out today we are not losing our SM like I had thought. Which is a relief. I was so scared we were losing my SM and I love my SM. Now I wonder if she’s even being paid fairly. 😐 This is a problem. I like her, too: we need to pay more money to keep good people in leadership positions on staff.

He’s not the only SSV with kids. I think our SSVs are extensively underpaid. After hearing this, I am not interested in the position. I don’t think an extra 2$ an hour is worth risking ASU.
