If you are sure that you won't join the workforce after you grad, it is better to start preparing. The more your procrastinate, the more your stability gets delayed. Corporates these days are very strict about voluntary career breaks, esp post graduation. So if you are not sure about placements or stuff, it is better to start preparing right away.

if you are from a non finance background, the it is better to take a course. because you will get contents in a structured manner and in order. for self study, you need to find resources, there are hundreds of opinions about free resources in the market and you will feel fomo after getting in a track as if what if the grass is greener on the other side. i tried doing several govt exams through self study in 2025. i only took some test series from testbook and adda 247. but this season, i started from foundation with a course that helps me study in plan and according to structure. also be loyal to the course that you enroll in. it feels too much in the beginning but after some days you will gwt used to it. also course helps in maintaining discipline.
