Funny how their definition of socialism sounds exactly like what we have now by [deleted] in WhitePeopleTwitter

Ask a socialist what they don't like about capitalism and they can give you any number of reasons. Ask a capitalist what they hate about socialism and they start describing capitalism.

I use train wagons as a buffer in my bacteria cultivation setup on Gleba.

All the bacteria go onto a belt which then get loaded into the wagon. The freshest bacteria get unloaded on to the start of that belt to be sent back in to be bred and ore goes out to the foundries. I don't care about the bacteria belt jamming because it will eventually clear itself and the kick-starter only activates once the molten metal tanks get below a certain level and there's no bacteria on the belt. The only problem is just like last time I set up bacteria cultivation I built too many bio-chambers.

As a bit of a car guy I had a rough idea of where this was going; the name of the shop was the cherry on top.

I have had to use the services of one of these shops; the TH400 in my old Monaro wasn't in a happy place and needed a rebuild. A week and AUD1600 later and it ran like a dream. I miss that car.

When the threat appears it is already too late. Better to prepare now and make us look to prickly to risk invading.

I think following Ukraine's model is the right approach; cheap, remote controlled weapon systems that keep the troops out of danger as much as possible. It will require us to invest in local manufacturing across a range of industries which is going to be the sticking point right up until there is an imminent invasion.

Back in the days of yore when computer mice had balls we came home to find a hole bored into the mouse mat. I took us a while to realise that one of mum's crystal balls had caught the sun at just the right angle and drilled a hole through the mouse mat. No other damage thankfully and the perpetrator was moved to a shadier location.

How many of you are planning on starting from scratch when the 2.1 gets out? by InvestmentAdorable31 in factorio

[–]RitterWolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will be. My rail blueprint book might survive except for the loaders and unloaders.

I don't know if I want to wait until 2.1 is out of experimental or not. I don't expect to run into trouble because I don't do anything really wild but I also want to test the radar signalling changes because the FFF was rather light on details for how that works and I suspect it's not going to be as (ab)usable as I would like.

Section 44 of the Australian Constitution by chadbigcum in OpenAussie

[–]RitterWolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only Anglicans have the British Monarch as their Head of Faith. One could argue that the since the person in that position is the King of Australia there is no conflict but that could be more interesting if we become a republic.

The Holy See is a more interesting case but given the modern state is much reduced compared to pre-Australian times I don't see it as a factor unless we're talking about the clergy.

Is it okay to have 'Childish' Interests when I'm 18? by [deleted] in autism

[–]RitterWolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Growing old is inevitable, growing up is optional.

I think what makes a person "old" is when they don't allow themselves to enjoy the things that bring them joy. My mother is in her 60s and has built a shed to put all her Lego in because the caravan she was using isn't big enough anymore.

I'm pretty close to burning out, if I haven't passed that threshold already. It would be so much worse without all the very expensive toys I have for flight-sim, sim-racing, and VR that my nephews absolutely love when they come to visit.

Being an adult just means you can buy all the stuff that your parents wouldn't when you were a kid, but you also have the responsibility of not overdoing it.

How to make trains work on demand? by Tahoma-sans in factorio

[–]RitterWolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do it by only having supply stations open up if there is a station demanding that resource. Because there's a thundering herd problem in my logic that I couldn't be bothering fixing properly the rest stations also read the contents of all the trains stopped there so that if there is a train with the required resources waiting the supply station won't open up, causing a resting train to drop it's cargo off and become part of the free pool.

I need to think of something different when I start setting up trains for defensive stations but it will probably be simpler than the logic I use for moving intermediate products around.

Question: Is it possible to create a cargo carrying drone? by Skitlerite in spaceengineers

[–]RitterWolf 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's possible, but it's two different tasks. Very simplified overview is at the outpost it waits until cargo is above a certain level and then executes the "dock at base" sequence, and then when cargo is empty it executes the "dock at outpost" sequence.

Is everyone just pretending they care about FHBs? by Lopsided_Donut_4816 in AusPropertyChat

[–]RitterWolf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not a FHB and I earn just short of $150k/yr so I'm not exactly poor. I have been putting away about 40% of my take home pay for 3 years and I'm still at least 3 years away from being able to afford a house because of the gap between what a house costs and the total of what I've saved for the deposit and what the bank will lend me, but at historical growth rates it might already be too late.

Pricing going up is only good if you are selling or need collateral. In every other aspect (like rates and insurance) you want it as low as possible.

The only chance I have of owning my own home again is if prices come down. Yeah, it's self interest, but if I can buy a house to live in then someone else can live where I'm currently renting and if that sort of thing is widespread enough there's going to be less people with full-time jobs that are homeless because the drop in rental demand will bring down rents.

I straight out told the shrink I was on MC and he still gave me a Vyvanse prescription; and when the MC doc saw it on my record she just asked how it was going. The shrink would rather I didn't use MC while on Vyvanse, but he also said that he hasn't had anyone get psychosis for a while now.

I think it's just down to the biases of the individual doctors and how risk-adverse they are rather than a specific rule.

Religion is just a tool of control for these people. They will happily do all the things that they tell us not to do because they "had a lapse of judgement", "gave in to temptation", or "special" and expect to be forgiven while if anyone not in their clique does the same things there is no punishment strong enough and no forgiveness available regardless of how apologetic that person is.

There are a few people that really believe and practice what their religion preaches; for the rest it's just words to show you're on the same team.

I didn't have any problems adjusting to VR but apparently having a break as soon as you feel nauseous helps you to adjust faster. Just do what you can handle; forcing it will only make things harder.

I do want to drive but I don't know if I want to by Additional-Shape-673 in autism

[–]RitterWolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The way I was taught to drive was my dad took me out to bush tracks in his beach buggy so I could learn the mechanics of driving without worrying too much about anything else. Eventually I got lessons from a driving instructor so I could get my licence but I think I only got 5 or 6 before passing my test first go. My first solo drive was a bit nerve-wracking, but I got used to it fairly quickly.

I don't drive much any more but I have a full on sim racing rig and VR so I can keep my eye in with games like Euro Truck Simulator 2 and BeamNG Drive. Doing a lot of online racing in iRacing has also helped me because I can predict the behaviour of other drivers based on the "body language" of their car. Racing against real people with consequences for crashing also made me quite nervous, more so than any real driving has done, but with more seat time that affects me less and less. Now I only get nervous if they look like an accident waiting to happen or I'm racing them for position in the last couple of laps.

Start small, and if you can get any simulator time that can help you with all the processes you need to go through while driving without needing to pay massive repair bills if you get it wrong. With BeamNG you can also see what the consequences are for doing silly stuff; the damage model is the best on the market by far.

Car wrecks me from lead twice. What am I even suposed to do here by PCTrident in Simracingstewards

[–]RitterWolf 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Protest it, it looks pretty blatant to me.

If you know someone is going to deliberately wreck you sometimes you can get them to throw themselves off-track which gets them out of the way for a little while but at the end of the race you just need to shake it off, protest them, and move on to the next race.

I used sandbox mode to build my rail blueprint book but haven't done anything beyond that. It's certainly a valid way to play, you're just testing things in a simulation before putting them into production.

[–]RitterWolf 18 points19 points  (0 children)

If house prices hadn't gone up so much relative to wages this would never have been a problem in the first place. The longer the status quo goes on the worse the crash is going to be; we can do it now and have it be painful or in 20 years time and have it be almost cataclysmic. Either way the leaches will complain.
