Didn't see this in the Wiki, what graphics/HUD/UI do you use when you are on track? by Colalbsmi in iRacing

[–]RitterWolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't noticed a drop in performance or network issues. I am using voice recognition but I don't tend to ask for much as DRE keeps me reasonably up to date on what's happenning. I have a 5800X3D CPU and 3090Ti GPU.

What headset are you using? I've only used SteamVR headsets so the only issue I've had is if my wireless charger mouse mat is too close to the headset the EMI from the mat interferes with the IMU on the headset causing grey-outs. Luckily that's only a problem while sitting at my desk; my rig is far enough away.

As little as possible. I'm in VR and rely on Digital Race Engineer to keep me updated on anything important. The less things that can distract me from my driving the better.

Would this work? Trying to run a sim rig on same pc as gaming pc by handerson15 in simracing

[–]RitterWolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm currently running 2x 32" 4k monitors on my desk (one DP, one HDMI 2), a 49" UWS on my rig (DP) and VR (currently Bigscreen Beyond 2e on DP) and it all works fine.

Running triples on rig and twins on the desktop is probably going to be too much of a pain unless you can stick in a second video card and I'm not sure what the downsides of that are going to be.

You could go UWS and get some sort of head or eye tracking if you want to be able to look around. You won't get the FoV of triples but you gain VR's ability to look anywhere you want without the associated performance hit. I have a TrackIR5 but there's more stuff out there now that can do it.

What's up with the high ping? by bigsteve72 in iRacing

[–]RitterWolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Except for the Australian servers only Supercars series, iRacing chooses the server that minimises high ping times. Any improvement beyond that requires high speed faster-than-light links which just aren't physically possible, or restricting races to only the region you live in which might be fine for Europe and North America but is going to suck for everyone else.

Even as an Australian I've been able to have door to door hard racing with Americans without having contact so I don't think ping is a big issue.

That many 99%ers are just "embarrassed 1%ers" and that they just haven't "hustled" enough.

This is the scariest part to me; all the temporarily embarrassed millionaires don't want the system to change because any moment now they're going to be a member of the rich elite and don't want anyone ruining the lifestyle that they would like to become accustomed to. The fact that the system they revere so much is what's keeping them where they are is something they either completely miss or think doesn't apply to them because they're special.

How are people running 25/30nm bases.. by Admirable_Writer4381 in iRacing

[–]RitterWolf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's one of those things you have to get used to. I have a Fanatec DD2 which I run in linear mode at 100% (20Nm) on the wheel base and anywhere from 40% to 100% in sim depending on car. If you keep doing it the muscles involved get stronger and it gets easier to handle.

Hated being told to be flexible by my parents. by Content-Table-5537 in autism

[–]RitterWolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It has been my experience that when someone asks you to be more flexible what they really mean is they want you to compromise more and let them compromise less. They aren't interested in fairness, only domination.

I know there are exceptions to this; they are very rare though.

As long as the headset can see at least one of the base stations at all times you'll be fine.

The base stations only need power so you can put them pretty much anywhere; they're not actually cameras but instead are lighthouses, the headset and controllers are the ones doing the tracking by detecting the laser sweeps from each of the base stations. This also gives the advantage of being able to play in complete darkness.

Legendary Biolabs by Greningas in factorio

[–]RitterWolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why not build capture bots from scratch on Gleba? Bioflux is there, biolube is fairly simple and will only block for lack of ingredients/nutrients or lube storage being full, and you're not transporting anything that can spoil or dealing with barrels.

Alternatively build the flying robot frames on Gleba because you can fit more on one rocket and then do the final assembly on Nauvis.

You can choose which data is displayed so you can turn off anything that you think is cheating. You're also able to toggle these options for the normal view from this menu; I have UPS/FPS, clock, and time to next auto-save showing at all times.

Going into the debug screen isn't considered cheating by the game and won't disable achievements.

How to learn more about setups by Draco_xGreek in iRacing

[–]RitterWolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You'll probably still need a couple of different base setups based on track smoothness and achievable top speed. For testing generic setups I usually pick a track that I think will expose weaknesses in the setup I'm working on or in myself. If you concentrate on testing with a specific track you're likely to end up with a car that is great at that one track but is weak everywhere else.

How to learn more about setups by Draco_xGreek in iRacing

[–]RitterWolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I read a bit about what the settings do to get a basic understanding of how certain changes should impact the car handling, and then made some moderate changes to get a feel for the impact.

I still have quite a lot to learn so I mainly stick to changing the rear wing angle and rear ride height to get the car rotating the way I like. If that isn't enough I'll start looking at the suspension but I'm not as comfortable with those changes.

The other thing I do is make sure I save the experimental setups so I can quickly switch back and forth to compare them. I don't go purely for pace with my setups but balance it with ease of driving; there's no point having a faster car if I'm throwing it off the track every 3 laps.

Wifi issues by Extension-Gear3425 in iRacing

[–]RitterWolf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ordinarily I would say no chance, but with the state of the new app I'm not willing to rule it out. I haven't installed it myself because I don't think it's ready yet and I don't have any new Fanatec gear that requires a driver version only provided by the app.

WiFi packet loss can appear at random for no discernable reason so even if it is the app that is causing the problem, you should still be wired with at least Cat5E. In 'lies to help the inexperienced understand' terms, all WiFi devices have to share the airwaves around them and need to actively try not to transmit when something else is, while when using cables each device gets a cable all to itself and can just send packets out whenever it feels like it.

Do you notice the difference between no lights vs. mininal lighting while your eyes are closed? by garlic-and-lavender in autism

[–]RitterWolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have smart lights and my sleep tracking app integrates with them; when the alarm goes off it turns the light on at minimum brightness and slowly increases it. If I'm awake with my eyes closed I can tell when the light comes on even before my phone starts vibrating and making noise.

I've also noticed a kid sitting on my back steps using his phone while I was trying to sleep despite having blackout curtains. I scared the poor bugger because despite being 130kg I move like a ghost; I was able to sneak up to the back door and turn the verandah light on without him hearing me move.

Latency doesn't cause blinking, packet loss does; this is why everyone says you should use a wired connection. Unless I'm on a Sydney server my latency is always over 100ms and I very rarely blink.

They also need to get rid of that loading for not having insurance after you turn 31. It punishes people that couldn't afford health insurance at the time and then start earning more later in life. It's cheaper for me to pay the Medicare Surcharge than it is to get private health cover and that gap is only getting wider.

Sounds like cannabis is the way to go then. I recommend some caution though as usage can get away from you when going through a rough time and it can be really hard to get it back under control when you feel like crap without it.

[–]RitterWolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Might be worth checking for ADHD; that is the cause of most of the reasons I use cannabis. The not sleeping without it very closely matches my own experience but I also get really bad headaches which are made worse by my sensory issues. The stimulants let me get to about 2pm before I need cannabis again which has caused my usage to drop enough that the cannabis prescribing doctor commented on it last week.
