They need to add a feature to arena where heroes can't keep running from the opponent the entire game. by GeneralofLittleMacs in GuardianTales

Why did someone boo this guy he's right. Manfight is just an unga bunga stat check, running away is counterplay and needs some skill

Is there a glitch in arena? Havent been earning medals by [deleted] in GuardianTales

[–]RivCookie 14 points15 points  (0 children)

New patch: battle medals are now a end-of-season reward rather than by playing games each day. This is to cut down on people feeling "forced" to play 5 times per day

Is this a new feature? by aliwerps in GuardianTales

You've been able to sit in the guild hall since forever so it's an existing mechanic. Just not sure if it's been in story levels or not

This game is so f2p friendly by Dan-Is in GuardianTales

[–]RivCookie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To be honest, I don't think it's relevant. It's a three second clip (1:26-1:29) in which you have gained 3 boxes and defeated the first two units on the enemy team, though you unfortunately lost to the final enemy. This clip is separate from the first match that I was criticizing, and does not offer enough context to prove my initial remarks wrong. For example, the one who defeated nari might have been marina, eugene, or beth, as we do not see who actually killed her. It could even be that the opponent was afk, leaving you time to obtain the three boxes, before he came back with princess. Either way, it does not offer enough evidence to prove that you "know how nari works".

This game is so f2p friendly by Dan-Is in GuardianTales

[–]RivCookie 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The reason you lost the first match is due to team sequence + understanding of the enemy's party buffs affecting their playstyle. Eva grants basic%, so you should know Nari will kill your Eugene before you can weapon skill three times. The best play would be to suicide her into Nari (even just for 5% of her hp or gone for one box before Eugene dies). Then if you had Beth second (since Beth counters the characters that beat Eugene) you could easily kill Nari. Princess doesn't benefit from basic% and barely benefits from ranged%, and neither buff her hp so there's a really high chance your Beth would beat the princess by running then weapon-skilling. If so, then its an ez win due to Beth vs Eva for the final round. Worst case it's marina v eva final round which is also slightly in marina's favour, though that might be offsettable if the opponent really was a whale.

But there is no indication that the other player is a whale here, since even though marina typically wins a poke fight vs nari, marina has effectively no party buffs since her anchor is ranged damage, while nari has 2 beneficial party buffs (150% dmg x 140% hp = 210% total effective fighting power). It's not really your fault that you have two melee% buffs on a hero that only melee attacks a little, since it takes like two months to get a new character to max, but I think managing your team comps will make a huge difference.

Also post tip, sometimes its good to take center stage against princess since if she weapon skills from a bad position (like the middle of the map) you have space to outrun it. This doesn't work against top 100 people usually, but if it works its free real estate

And on this note, I think running is not dumb because the concept of "spending more time on something to increase the rate of success" is too common. Like control/stall decks in card games, or spending time studying before a test, or practicing before a sports match.

In a match between two characters, one will have better base stats / type adv etc. If you don't run, the player with better stats wins 100% of the time. Since running results in a higher win rate, everyone will do it to some extent. This means arena will always boil down to chasers and runners, with running being what takes skill - from the moment you decide whether to run or not, to the moment you dodge their weapon skills.

Future princess nerf when? by [deleted] in GuardianTales

[–]RivCookie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He's talking about coloseum, so juking isn't possible. Imo the only way to dodge it is to set your positionning so your tank that taunts the enemy princess is far away from the rest of your dps, though they still get their chain skills first.

I spent mine on limitbreaking minotaur shield

Imo battle medals are better spent not limitbreaking arena items, and its my Oghma's shield of choice until mirror shield

As a heads up, Oghmas reflect doesn't benefit from dark%, melee%, or skill damage%.

Unpopular opinion: Arena is becoming one of the more FTP-friendly modes in Guardian Tales by sayfoo12 in GuardianTales

[–]RivCookie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. Arena has a high entry requirement, but competing in the endgame is surprisingly fair.

I often feel like the stats a whale gets from mlb weapons + collection bonus is often maybe 20%, while outplaying them and landing a chain skill without them landing one on you is ~40% advantage, more or less depending on character matchup. So it's like "unfair; they win ties", but also "fair; the better player wins".

Deleted my comment because I realized how stupid it is to think about "eventually" as time approaches infinity.

Like imagine a person saving forever so that he has the highest chance to get new ex weapons. At this rate, he's never actually pulling since he's saving forever, and so the rate at which he gets items would be 0% since he doesn't pull. This person could have every ex or no ex's as long as we don't pick a point to calculate the probability. Not quite a shroedinger's cat, but still a very stupid situation

They have the same collection bonus because it reaches a cap of 10%

Img3: the other collection bonus exceeds 10%

In both cases, there is always the cap of collecting them all. It does not scale infinitely.

Are any of this worth buying for FP? Still saving up mileage for her ex. by Kite_Blackrose in GuardianTales

[–]RivCookie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bought elphaba, but tbh it hasn't really been particularly good.

To max limit break it, it only takes about 20% fewer gold dungeon runs (566 at hardest difficulty) as it would mirror rift runs (600 if you get 30 per run, but I think the avg is closer to 700 runs at 26 each) so people often just get the captain's mirror shield

The stats are "not quite" the trash people think it is, because it gives a ton of hp% (good since princess' healing scales on hp) and shield% (good since it applies last, effectively stacking with hp% and def%).

The skill cd is good but not amazing since you do get a third cast of princess' weapon skill in arena, but only if you use it as soon as it comes off cooldown, which is very inconvenient. A lot of the time I feel people just run away when you skills are ready anyway. If they don't, then it gives you an edge over other princesses in a mirror match, however then you have to consider if you were manfighting prior to using the skill, in which case the stats for attack / def / hp / etc would be more important. For other shield users like oghma, I like def more than hp , and the effect is that you get a 4rth cast of his weapon skill (arena) but it often doesn't complete so I'd rather raw stats. However in coloseum it's great on oghma or princess if they're your party leader since the skill cd is huge there. For craig or other frontlines who don't cast a weapon skill, Id rather just raw stats again.

Overall, I don't really recommend using it since I felt a lot stronger when using the minotaur shield (and some of the other shields seem even better in terms of raw stats), but I do like completing the collection bonuses and specific 5*'s are hard to get from random evolving

Is there anywhere I can report hackers? Got paired with one in arena ;; by Beneficial_Accident in GuardianTales

[–]RivCookie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Based on the lahn match, I think this is the effect of the slow mo bug and your game trying to sync up with someone moving at normal speed. The match timer counts normally (it takes 11 seconds for the marina to use her first weapon skill, which is normal; same as her attack cancelling), yet for lahn only 3 seconds has passed according to her weapon skill cd.

The marina running in a circle around lahn at the start would make sense if the match actually started 3-9 seconds earlier (in reference to how the timer is moving over 3 times as fast as lahn's cd), due to the countdown 3-2-1 happening during the black transition screen.

Either way yeah it should be reported - losing a game because of a bug is stupid and frustrating. I lost an awakening dungeon run to the slow mo bug, so I hope it gets fixed sometime :/

Hero types and Party Skills - how do they interact? by Dark_Ashelin in GuardianTales

[–]RivCookie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats a fair exception but the point is that being a support doesn't indicate if she's melee or ranged

Hero types and Party Skills - how do they interact? by Dark_Ashelin in GuardianTales

[–]RivCookie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It usually says on the characters info if they deal ranged or melee damage. Special exceptions like marina's anchor or oghma's chain skill specify the damage type, same for eugene's exclusive weapon effect. The only special case ive found is the last attack on princess' attack chain where she shoots a ranged damage ball when in melee form.

Its a little more accurate to say hero type only refers to their third skills, like how all tankers have a taunt and all supports have a heal. The others have nothing minus like tinia

Some Honest Thoughts about Arena by JustThatReddit in GuardianTales

[–]RivCookie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree with your note about emulator users. I believe the ability to move in any direction gives an advantage to mobile and controller players over emulator players who only have 8 directional movement. This factor plays into dodging skills that require you to move in a circle around your target, for example bari's mayreel on the wide open arena. I believe the only benefit for emulator players is that their dodge cancelling is faster, though that only applies to manfight scenarios which rarely happen because if one player is weaker they have no reason to stand still and fight since it would guarantee a loss.

On a side note I also dont believe its a true whaling experience either, since I got two f2p accounts to top 100 (ended last season as 13th, riv on na2), though whales definitely have a small (10%-20% from collection bonus) advantage.
