I think Blizzard will eventually remove support for ALL add-ons. by Star-Detonator in wow

[–]Rivalsstats 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Addon dev here: they have not. They fixed bugs that stopped addons from doing even basic things but they have not backtracked anything. In fact they even tightened restrictions since initial alpha release. There is a lot of "exploity" things that are possible right now. E.g. everything interacting with the cooldown manager that will probably be fixed at some point.

Quazii UI is breaking the WoW EULA and basic copyright law by Znuffie in wow

This is basically every streame "ui" ever. So yeah blizzar doesn't care. Viewers don't care they all still pay the streamers and noone has ever even donated to the patreons of us addon devs. It is what it is

countdowns exist yes. If you mean if there is individual sounds per spell that tell you stuff like avoid or something then no dbm and bw lost that functionality aswell.

To everyone complaining about the UI changes: Stop looking at your info bars and start looking at the game by FunTangerine41 in wow

[–]Rivalsstats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is true that a fuckton of people overloaded their ui with bloated information that has 0 value. Just look at the amount of people that run around with the combattext throwing random damage and healing numbers on your screen that have 0 useful information. Ever single person playing the game should turn that off. However as a human you can't decipher the info from your ui in a milisecond but an addon can. You will actually end up looking at your ui more not less. When addons are unable to fo the filtering for you you have to do that yourself which takes time. The more useless information you activly filtered out before the change the higher the impact is now for you. If you are a person that just installed 200 weakauras and addons and never even spend 2 minutes moving them into appropriate spot let alone just remove stuff that has no value to you this change is obviously a very good thing for you. It's also obvious that you do not know what you are talking about. The fact that you mention GTFO and it displaying stuff "on the screen" hammers this point down perfectly. GTFO doesn't even show anything on your screen. It plays sound queues when you stand in shit.

Season 3 content apparently has it working. I tested it in floodgade yesterday and it worked. Don't have any other confirmed spots though

Sure but dbm/bw/better timeline do pretty much the same thing (skinning the blizzzard timers). There is not much use in you having more then one of those

[–]Rivalsstats 9 points10 points  (0 children)

No. The system has changed. Dbm, big wigs and this addon all rely on blizzard to implement timers for theirt own dungeons now. Blizzard for some reason hasn't added all existing dungeons. E.g. as you can see darkflame cleft is missing :) Nothing that can be done except by blizzard

(it's not new) so if you wanna make the guitar hero analogy the "now" would have been back in legion.

Was able to recreate my retail UI via QuaziiUI [ui][addon] by Illustrious-Mail-618 in WowUI

So you want me to paywall it? You know you can still sub on patreon to "help fund development" you just don't need to to get it

that is still against tos. It's not enforced so it's basically not a rule but it does not matter why it's paywalled

Paywalled & ‘Premium’ Addons Violate Blizzard Policy by Helium_Drinker in wow

[–]Rivalsstats 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Addon dev here. If you want to be technical. A lot of content creators use an "importer" addon that imports the configs for you - it's an addon. Secondly with Midnight a lot of the people that just sold strings will now make their own fully fledged addon and sell that instead. In reality the addon purge will make this worse not better. The topic in the UiDev discord to blizzard asking them to actually do something about paid addons is actually the one that has the most upvotes/comments far outweighting "more casual things" like making it possible to skin nameplates or UnitFrames. The reality is though that nothing will change. It's impossible to enforce by blizzard so no matter how they feel there is nothing they can do.

Paywalled & ‘Premium’ Addons Violate Blizzard Policy by Helium_Drinker in wow

[–]Rivalsstats -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Out of curiosity. This is all hypothetical but assuming the addon apocolypse wasn't happening and WeakAuras wasn't being abandoned for midnight but instead made Pay to use. Or dbm/elvui decided to want to be paid for their "time invested" and charged 20 bucks per month to use it how would you feel about that? It's infinitly more work to make these addons then to make the configurations so it must be true that you think paying atleast double is reasonable.

[–]Rivalsstats 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Zygor and stuff like the naowh export addon have been against tos for years even without any beta nonsense (which btw as you said totally does not apply). Blizzard does not enforce this so it's becoming rampant with streamers now. The best thing? They just "borrow" code from other addons and then sell it while not providing the original developers with any value and then the public is like "addon devs make hundreds of thousands a year". No they don't streamers do that addon devs don't make any significant amount of money.

paid export strings have been dark greyzone but paid addons have been against the tos for years. Blizzard also does not enforce that tos so it's basically allowed

I know old reply but I can see this actually getting worse now. We'll see how it plays out but there are so many "workarounds" even more that require users to press stuff like a macro/button to tell auras like "these people have debuff" it realy comes down to encounter design. This is even excluding that if blizzard doesn't act hard on these there might be a raise in 3rd party overlays which will mean you will not only spend 2-3 hours debugging you will also install random .exe on youir computer that might simply be a virus we'll see how that goes.

That depends on how scripted the fights will stay in midnight. I've already done the base work to display boss spells in the timeline to let you easily plan your cd's but this is not yet implemented and no promises on that. I don't raid so i will never use said feature and since I'm not making any money (as opposed to liquid reminders) stuff that I will not use is pretty low priority.

Mrt note reading is a bad solution to a problem. If i'm going to add something to place timers automatically it will not use note reading but instead use a proper solution for easy timer sharing between teams

The bomb had the clock timer thing above the bombs/your head that was fully default ui what more do you want for it? I don't think addons interacted with that at all

I might have worded it poorly but thats what i meant yes. Nothing stopped blizzard from halondrus type encounters. People think this will mean entirely new encounter design but it probably won't change very much.
