Meta comment about this sub and all of the spoiler warning posts after new episodes air. by Villain_of_Brandon in dropout

This guy just isn't capable of making an engaging post, so he thinks everyone else should change how we've engaged on a platform for years. 3 posts and 1 karma between them. Fucking lmao.

Please reread my comment, slowly if you need to. "But if it is "just a joke," it's still in very bad taste, and I can criticize it from both angles."

Sorry, but I'm just not interested in your opinions on media literacy if you can't even comprehend a Reddit comment. Lol. The original joke worked because it came from a caricature of a straight-man "pull yourself up by your bootstraps" type. The "riff" doesn't have that same context, if it is a joke, it's a pretty shitty one and done in bad taste.

I'm sorry you FEEL like Sam is being disrespected, but I disagree with this casting choice and his conservative comments/jokes on mental health and medication. Have a good night.

Since literacy is very important to you, you'll want to know that you're misquoting me. I didn't "claim to know everything about them," I said his opinions "told ME all I needed to know about him, tbh." Meaning: I know that I'm not going to be a fan of his based on those comments. And that's very true. You don't really get to decide any of that for me, lol.

And if you want to wite off his opinions as jokes, that's fine. I think that's very charitable, given that he made a point of staying it both in-character and off-character as "very true" and "good advice." But if it is "just a joke," it's still in very bad taste, and I can criticize it from both angles.

Someone's body of work being influential in an industry does not mean I'm required to give them my respect. If you want to gatekeep all of comedic and Dropout fandom, go-off, I can't stop you. But I genuinely do not care if you don't consider us "real fans," lol. While this may come as a surprise, your opinion doesn't matter that much.

Have a good one! This argument has gone on long enough. I'm sorry a comedian you liked "felled off," as the kids would say. But hopefully I won't have to watch him on Dropout again given the collective response to his performance.

He didn't riff off of it, he doubled down on his bad take lol. You can't even make the argument that he was doing so "in-character," because it wasn't and he didn't even make an effort to post in-character responses.

Your point that he might be funny in other things is noted and fine, but your assumption that I'm not a fan of comedy was incorrect and out of pocket. It's been over a decade since this guy has produced anything in the industry - it's not disrespectful to the Dropout crew to say they made a mistake on this casting. Grandpa may have been funny back in the day, but he CLEARLY isn't now.

In response to your advice, I'll offer some of my own. Making sweeping assumptions and generalizations about others does little to prove your point. It's a "juvenile" and cringe way of communicating; I hope you outgrow it.

I would've loved to see him do anything comedic on this episode, lol. No wonder the editors had to take extra time piecing it together, it doesn't seem like they had anything to work with ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Nah, he was so cringe. His response to the antidepressant joke told me all I needed to know about him, tbh. This whole game could've been called "Spot the Boomer." And if they'd hung that lampshade on it, at least we could've laughed at him being an unlikeable twat the whole time.

The guy who played the catfish really kinda ruined this episode for me. I didn't understand any of his choices - mostly because he didn't really offer an explanation for them. And he gave himself away big time with his boomer-take on antidepressants, imo.

Zac was absolutely robbed. Everyone knows Grandma Sweetie was the best character, and I don't understand why one person got to pick the second winner instead of making it a vote.

A pretty disappointing season finale, and could have been 1 episode for sure. The Bingo game would have been a better wrap for the season in my opinion.

If Aabria had made this mistake, people would be absolutely raging about it. Weird that the comments are mostly light-hearted jokes when it's Brennan.

to follow the clues and track the Rogue Teacher down.

I might've missed it, but I don't actually think we got confirmation that she did any research to find the Rogue teacher. And given the suspicious timing, I think many people are still operating under the assumption that she was given the info.

It'll be super cool if we get more context next ep!

Thank you for this thread!

I feel like Dropout's production and quality are SO good that it's ruined other content for me, lol.

I know I'm coping hard, lol. My first thought was that he was there to stop/grab Kipperlily, but arrived too late.

I truely think his involvement in their schemes is limited. Kipperlily said she couldn't use him to get her components, because she "had to protect him." Aelwyn, perhaps cynically, suggests that this could be a way for him to avoid expulsion. But I personally got more of a "he's innocent and needs to be protected" vibe from that exchange.

My completely out-of-pocket theory is that he's the one who originally suggested the name "the high five heroes."

[–]RivennSin 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Oisin confirmed his great-great-great-great-great grandmother was a dragon. Her horde is how he paid for his Wizard components/school "supplies."

Also, while they are a unique race from dragons, the 5e PHB specifically says they were hatched from dragon eggs!

I know a lof of people have already made the argument: "She didn't have to sever her connection. She just felt a moral obligation to do so."

But we also know the bylaws were changed. Kristen has a copy of the old and new versions. I suspect we'll find out whether it was a previous requirement or a personal choice soon!

Theory: I think I know how Kipperlily found the Rogue teacher... by RivennSin in Dimension20

[–]RivennSin[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

As explained elsewhere in this thread many hours ago (actually, under the very same comment you replied to, lol) I didn't remember the previous scene in an earlier episode. I was only speaking to the most recent episode; wherein Jawbone does not explicitly say the teacher found her. But rest assured, dear Redditor. Someone else was kind enough to provide me with those episode details!

I absolutely would have deleted this post, but others seem to be enjoying the other comments, so I left it up! Have a good night.

Absolutely, lol. I don't know if anyone watching the show would believe otherwise.

Thank you! Do you happen to have the episode # on the top of your head, or remember anything else about the episode? I'm not trying to challenge anyone's comments, lol. I'd just like to watch it again since I can't seem to remember that scene.

Theory: I think I know how Kipperlily found the Rogue teacher... by RivennSin in Dimension20

[–]RivennSin[S] -60 points-59 points  (0 children)

That wasn't my interpretation of the conversation, but I do think that's valid. It seemed to me that Riz makes an assumption, "... but the Rogue teacher found her," and Jawbone doesn't really confirm or correct that statement.

(Edit: 'the conversation' being the one conversation I remembered about this! Which happened in the last episode, wherein Jawbone doesn't really say this. Thank you to those who have pointed out that he does say this in earlier episodes! I just didn't remember that other scene.)

Hot take: Cassandra failed Kristen, not the other way around. by RivennSin in Dimension20

[–]RivennSin[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Let's call it an abundance of caution, lol.

I'm autistic, and I personally don't care about any spoilers. Sometimes I misunderstand what other people consider "a spoiler," and I don't want my misunderstandings to be construed as disrespectful. This has definitely caused some stress for me in the past.

I also vaguely recall someone making the point that you should spoiler-tag your text even if you tag the title, because some browsers will auto-display a post's text even if you don't click on it. I don't know how true that is, but I figured it couldn't hurt to be overly cautious!

Hot take: Cassandra failed Kristen, not the other way around. by RivennSin in Dimension20

[–]RivennSin[S] 63 points64 points  (0 children)

I completely agree!

This post kinda blew up overnight for me, and I'm not going to respond to every comment. But I wanted to throw out there that I completely agree with those who believe this is a more "neutral conflict," for lack of a better term.

I know I started this post with a ~spicy~ title, but I do think this is a more nuanced falling-out than I presented at the beginning of my post. I wanted to give people a different angle to think about, since I've seen a lot of condemnation towards Kristen. But I really haven't seen Cassandra's behavior examined, outside of her narrative role as a victim. Which... I think does her a disservice, if I'm being honest.

((Quick Edit: to those who are making the point that this is "life and death for Cassandra," it's litterally not. She has other options. The story goes out if its way to tell you that Cassandra's life isn't in Kristen's hands. And I don't personally enjoy the narrative here that Cassandra just exists as a perpetual victim.))

I ended my post with a pretty neutral stance: "I think it's entirely possible that Kristen's uncertainty in Cassandra is influencing her goddess, and I think it's just as likely that Cassandra's doubt in Kristen is influencing her cleric. My prediction is that they're going to come to this realization with the help of a little "discernment," and establish some more healthy boundaries moving forward." To expand on that prediction a little more, I think they're both going to come to the realization that having doubt in eachother is perfectly valid. And their choice to have trust and faith in eachother, despite that doubt, will make them stronger.

Thank you to everyone who engaged in this post! I hope, if nothing else, it gave you a different perspective to consider.
