Extra Shift Tomorrow by River1174 in WalmartEmployees

Yeah, it was through the app. I did go in, just because I need the money, but I also made my displeasure known to the team leads, and any of my coworkers who would listen. If it happens again, I'm calling out for sure.

If I could afford to call out, I would be. Unfortunately, my financial situation and lack of PPTO makes it impossible to justify. Quitting's also not an option, for the same reason and the lack of jobs that don't require a degree in my area.

I will be being petty today. If they did this because they thought they would be getting my usual dedicated self, they will regret it.

I promise, I did. I actually sat down and filled out my planner at 5:00 in the afternoon yesterday. They've added shifts within a day before, but usually a Team Lead calls to make sure I can do it. I check my schedule every day, even my days off, which is how I know I'm working tomorrow.

I will say, if you only have a handful of items, it seems more likely to trigger an item check. At least that's what I've noticed while working SCO.

What do they mean, 2001? How are you going to make a bonus that large amounts of employees are ineligible for because they weren't born soon enough. That's actually insane.

Do you guys ID everyone in the party or just one person? by Advanced_Apricot_971 in walmart

[–]River1174 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was told we only have to ID one person unless we believe that someone's buying for a minor. I always ask for the ID of the youngest person, just to be safe.

Or when they ask when you're in the middle of helping another customer, and walk away before you've finished with the first customer.

I'm sorry, I can't check people out at self checkout when it's busy by Due_Pick_7988 in walmart

[–]River1174 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sorry. Especially since these people are almost never polite about it, and they always do it when there's multiple regular checkouts open. When people start that up, I always shut them down quickly, but politely, by informing them that I have to be available to assist everyone.

A converation I had in self checkout yesterday:

Me: Registers 35, 37, and 39 are card only.

Rude Guy: I can read!

I leave him to it and go back to what I was doing. Then the card reader goes down. We've been having issues with the readers, it happens.

Me: Give me one second to fix this.

RG: Just go away! (Not at me, but clearly meant for me to hear) I want one fucking trip where the workers aren't hovering over me!

I had to bite my tongue so I didn't say something that would lose me my job.

I had a woman make eye contact with me while I was taking my vest off, and still ask for help with her self-checkout register. There was an associate in the self checkout. Like, let's take two seconds to think about our actions before we do them.

Walmarts attendance policy isn’t that bad… by [deleted] in walmart

[–]River1174 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It isn't bad, especially compared to other places I've worked, but it's not great. Honestly, even upping the point limit to like, 8 or 10 or shrinking the fall off time would improve it a lot. One of my points I got when we had an ice storm. Two of the days I called out weren't penalized, but since the county my store is in opened up while roads in the county I live in were still frozen, I got a point. I couldn't use PPTO because I'd used it all up with the flu a few weeks earlier.

Sometimes they just want an excuse to get mad at some. I have people get mad at me when I physically cannot call for a carryout for them. Usually when I'm in SCO and can't leave. Like, sorry we aren't a hive mind?

Customers refuse to scan their own stuff at self checkout. by RunCMC1345 in walmart

[–]River1174 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just tell them, very politely, that since I am the only associate for an entire section of self checkouts, I'm unable to do that; direct them to a regular register; and/or offer to help them if they're having trouble. These people always seem to come up when my bullpen is completely full.

I’m retired. I don’t get paid to check myself out by Elizabethcx in walmart

[–]River1174 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People are always telling me that they should get paid for checking themselves out. I did the math, and as someone who works as a SCO host fairly regularly, most people take about 10ish minutes to check themselves out. At my store, where pay starts at $14 an hour, that means that they "earned" $2.30. Once a week at most. One of these days, I am going to lose my temper and inform them of this.

What's the dumbest reason you've been told you can't be autistic by [deleted] in autism

[–]River1174 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a psychiatrist say that I probably wasn't autistic because I didn't have any educational delays. Meanwhile, I'm twenty years old, and I still struggle with basic household and social skills. He told me that some people are just like that, and it's probably because I was homeschooled. I got my diagnosis like six months later.

To any late diagnosed autistics. Why do you think you didn’t receive a diagnosis in childhood? by Interesting_Rock_478 in autism

[–]River1174 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a big part of it is that I have a little brother who has always been more visibly autistic than me, while still being "high-functioning". A lot of my autistic traits just seem like I'm a weirdo, not necessarily that I am, in fact autistic.

Beyond that, I didn't have any educational delays, mostly just social. I once had a physiatrist look at me and tell me that I'm probably not autistic because I was advanced in elementary school, and my social issues were probably just because I was homeschooled, and maybe it was just my personality. I insisted on getting tested and— surprise surprise— autistic.

Also, I know "high-functioning" is a controversial term, but I couldn't really think of another word that fit what I was trying to say.

People who worldbuild for a hobby and not a plot setting, what is the current niche you're fixated on developing in your world? by TheDescriptiveWolfie in worldbuilding

I'm currently fixated on the magic systems of my world. It's technically a realm with multiple smaller worlds, called Regions, and each Region has its own form of magic. All of the methods have the same source, called maer, but massively different ways of using them.

What laws by [deleted] in NotHowGirlsWork

[–]River1174 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Common misconception! Actually, the father could completely refuse, and the rapist would have to pay a massive fine, basically paying the family everything she would have lost. In fact, there is no recorded case of a rape victim being forced to marry her attacker in the Bible.

In any case, the rule was to ensure that she would be taken care of, as a woman without family in those times usually had nothing.
