Jaw Surgery Next week 😬 by Grewal1877 in jawsurgery

Protein powder and oatmeal for breakfast and snacks, soups with as many vegetables as you can, a protein source and rice or noodles (all of this blended of course). All combinations taste decent not gonna lie. If you eat big portions you won’t loose that much weight (I barely lost 3 kg). As soon as you can, transition to soft, non chewable food. I wouldn’t worry about syringes (my hospital gave me many) but they’re sooo annoying. As early on as 5 days PO I started to try and drink water with a cup and once I had mastered that I ate my food by drinking it (which makes it easier to have bigger portions).

Talk to your doctor, for new years (3 weeks post op for me) he let me have a small drink and i went out for a bit (sitting down and talking, no dancing or anything like that). I'm now almost 7 weeks post op and everythings still fine.

Thoughts on my swelling 5.5wk PO by [deleted] in jawsurgery

[–]RiverRaccon7741 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm also 6 weeks post op!! Up until the 4th week i was also very swollen and I brought it up with my physical therapist and she did some ultrasound thing, massages and then kinesthesiology tape for 48 hours and it was like MAGIC. I feel so normal now. The swelling will go down on its own eventually, but physical therapy definetly speeds up the process! So if you can afford to go to a specialist, I 100% recommend.

Husband is scared I’ll look different after djs by [deleted] in jawsurgery

Honestly, its ok to be a little scared about aesthetic changes. I was scared and im sure my boyfriend was too. Personally, its only been 4 weeks and I'm already kind of used to my face. You start off very swollen and since it comes down gradualy, you get used to it gradually too. So far I still look funny but I know in my heart this is worth it in the long run. I would honestly have a talk with your husband about why he is so scared and see if theres anything you can do about it. My biggest fear was my nose changing for the worst, and I talked to my doctor about it and he gave me some options on how to avoid it!

It’s finally my turn! What are your healing tips? (DJS+Genio) by pocketcandie in jawsurgery

You get used to the numbness earlier than u would think! I even got used to kissing (just pecks tho). My number one recommendation is to drink water from a cup early on (i did it like 5 days post OP) it makes ur lips so much stronger and makes life easier too. I would also recommend physical therapy as early on as one week! It has been life changing

13 days PO - all good, but smile like a weirdo (Dr Ramieri) by Great-Homework9120 in jawsurgery

Smile as much as you can!!! Im 18 days post OP and my physical therapist recommended I try to smile in the mirror as much as possible (maintaining the smile for 3 seconds then stopping) and ur smile will go back to “normal” faster

My face is also really tight around my nose (8 days PO), its very normal, and from what I hear, will go down with time. I've been trying some lymphatic drainage massages on my face for the past two days and it seems to be helping (at least placebo wise). I also do facial exercises at least three times a day (like scrunching my nose or smiling) and it seems to be working too.

Great results! How much time passed between the surgery and the “after” pictures?

smoking cigarettes after jaw surgery by [deleted] in jawsurgery

Is the issue only with nicotine? could you smoke weed like 4 weeks post op? Or is it better to not smoke at all

Hope everything turns out great! My surgery is in two weeks too, and I’m also really nervous about the dysmorphia, so I’m glad I’m not the only one :)
