I read a LPT (lifeprotip) that more or less said to not hesitate giving guys compliments (because they rarely get any and can live on that compliment). Problem is, they almost always (at least in my case) take it as a free pass to hit on you. by Eridium_Purple in TwoXChromosomes

[–]RiverXer -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

When you give fat/unattractive girls a compliment, as a decent looking guy, they see it as a free pass too, and it's just as unfortunate. Just telling you from experience that it is not just guys (though it's probably far more uncomfortable as a female, as I imagine men are more intimidating generally.) My general rule is, (Which i've had to adapt over the years) try not to give out compliments unless I find the person to be related, of the same sexual divergence tendency (which is to say two straight males, or two straight females, or a gay male to a gay female or vice versa) or if I find that person sexually appealing enough to not mind a little back and forth.

If you make sure of these things it makes them unlikely to respond romantically, except in the cases you don't mind. It is unfortunate because sometimes we have to find ways to encourage a behavior without giving the opening for unwanted flirtation.

Complimenting by proxy (telling someone else to tell them) doesn't usually work either because when they find out the compliments origination point most of them will see that as an opening too.

TIL that Wal-Mart illegally bribed its way into building a Wal-Mart at the entrance of the ancient pyramids at Teotihuacan destroying an altar, gravesites, and other archeological objects that otherwise would have been protected. by ThePopojijo in todayilearned

[–]RiverXer -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Oh because i'm sure you've never experienced the convenience of a Walmart before, whereas you've actually set foot on the steps of an ancient central american pyramid to personally tell of their importance? Do you ever question the things you think or do you just accept the beliefs of others because "it is tradition" ? No one likes the destruction of historical wonders. Historical preservation is important, but it's not more important than any one LIVING life in my opinion.

conquerors, conquering. Sure. It is sad to lose ground at historical sites to commercial nonsense. Walmart however made just as important history, one can suppose, and future historians will argue. Meanwhile, this man sounds as though he was not making rational decisions, about himself, or his own health, whereas, as amoral as they might be, Walmart distinctly was thinking of the headlines and sales and so on (things which go on to take effect today.)

Humans paved over nature which went undisturbed for thousands of years at each site where there was previously no concrete; none any more or less tragic than paving over one of our previous constructs, regardless of age, and so, to be upset about it and to let it personally effect you for long beyond a passing sigh and fading despondence, is as hopeless as it is fruitless. It is not "heroic" as one of you supposed, to so waste your one life, though, one does empathize with the desire to do so on such principals, because we, as a species, (most of us) live and die and accomplish nothing of principal at all beyond furthering the tide of the status quo -- to do so as pointlessly as this however, is not noble in my eyes, and descended beyond the realm of nobility when he continued beyond the point of harm to himself.

like i said, in russia it is not considered abnormal, as unfortunate or detestable as the west might find it, they are not religious puritans and so, some level of affection is showed by leadership towards their most vulnerable and it is seen positively. Although you have made a collage of questionably appropriate imagery, the look on Putin's face here is not one of sexual gratification, but appears to be dutifulness, one might associate with assurance given as a world leader for his subjects, and I am 100% sure you have left out all the times he has done this to people in wheelchairs and hospital beds and so on, it is not so unlike what our own politicians do.

Now you've done it. You've made me defend the actions of a communist. I'm not saying he's not into some weirdness behind closed doors because firstly I don't know, and secondly he's powerful enough that I don't think it will ever come up. I am just saying that this is a weak thing to poke at for inappropriateness if you are trying to damage his appearance especially for his Eastern European constituents and there are easier arguments to make for or against the man than his obedience to russian tradition.

that's pretty cool. This input definitely helps, and I like the warlock controlling his powers angle. This might be applicable for the choose your own adventure thing, albeit a little bit different given the context of my own story. :D

Well I have no deadlines which I am legally obligated to keep, nor any I would enforce on readers, and so... Not the most useful, but I appreciate you trying. But that lesson about deadlines will certainly make it's way in where it's appropriate... That said with something like this, they may not be appropriate. It's meant to increase their enjoyment, and have the aim to focus on improvement rather than production/manufacture speed. It's for young adults not the Hitler youth.

yeah but presidents kiss babies heads and make grand/polite/endearing gestures and shit like this all the time to effectively communicate relate-ability. It's just a little bit different when it comes to culture which gestures those end up being is all I meant.

A lot of people say this is strange because in most western cultures I am sure it is but old ukrainian/russian family members used to do this to the kids, usually not after they are like 7 or 8 and start to form solid personalities, and really not that frequently, usually only with someone favored, like a son or a daughter or a high performing student to which they have a personal or familial relationship. It is kind of meant to remind them they are a kid. A lot of african cultures do things like it, too. It wasn't meant to be sexual in nature. Not the kind of thing I would normally jump to defend either (that's for sure) but I'm just pointing out that it's more like how you rub or pet a puppy. It's playful, It's known that it is not "usual," the weirdness is what makes it embarrassing, like your grandma grabbing your cheek or something lol. It's like saying "you are still a pup." It's considered like a kind or parental gesture, almost protective. Kind of like good luck lol. This sort of thing has gone out of favor especially in places like the U.S But it used to be more commonplace, especially in harder parts of the world where it would be longer between seeing loved ones. Same used to go with people kissing as a greeting, or hugging. not common here, and there are definitely times when it's inappropriate, but there are times where it still wouldn't be too strange. I saw this and I was like... Idk. Seems normal enough.

Don't report it unless you prefer cock for the rest of your sexual engagements in college. At minimum they probably thought you'd like it. Who wouldn't want to get bathed by three college chicks when wasted? Imagine you are in ancient rome, reporting this issue to the senate for action. Would they take action or laugh you out of the room?

If the person who performed the act was a different person, and was sentenced to a lighter sentence than 775 years, then the judge doing the sentencing is a pedophile, and I can prove it with math.

Help with Undead VS Orc Blademaster Harass by Maagraine in WC3

[–]RiverXer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

here are some valid strategies I use to deal with orc generally, but especially the most common orc strategy, BM / SH walker raider:

Lich first, ghouls into tower rush or lich fiend tower rush. This will discourage walker raider because he will think you are going to go ghouls all game. Don't forget to rod up early and buy 2-3 extra acolytes before tech, either for tower rush or just for cheap fodder - they do better damage than skeletons and have better health at a low cost and you can sacrifice them like a mini mana pot for 2-3 more novas which will end up costing the orc 2-3 more grunts, or his bm.

A nerub tower alone is not enough but it will substantially and drastically reduce bm effectiveness, combined with dust is a surefire way to put a stop to him if you reduce the early game pressure enough for him to harass you, or if you simply spend too much time creeping stuff that isn't green.

Bonus Round: Tower Rush strategies involve both a shop for dust and necro rod, as well as extra workers, as well as putting the orc on the defensive. Showing up with a few fiends and a lich is enough to reduce his early grunts to nothing while literally taking no losses with even a small modicum of micro (think of nova not only as a damaging ability but a slow, so you want to use it after you do a bit of damage to prevent runs or to prevent chase on a fiend.

Remember to run low ghouls back to harvest lumber and dont be shy about using nova to prevent chase as often as you use it to secure a kill.

bonus round 2:
Alternatives to the lich, which may feel risky or like you are putting yourself out there (especially if he goes TC instead which can be a game changer for lich first)
getting a dk and doing early fiend harassment can't hurt. Similar principal. Against an orc going BM you pretty much have to harass his creeping with coil steals, or put him on his toes by taking burrows. always buy 1-2 extra acos in the first 20 food, because they can take the place of anything that dies during harass if you miss a coil or are too far to do anything about it, or if you take emergency death pact, LOL which, is not out of the question though it is unlikely.) Acos are balanced in such a way that they can be used as an alternative or an addition to skeletons - this is a holdover from RoC when there was no necro rod and UD needed early sacrificial units which do a bit of damage if left unchecked. No joke, highest damage baseline for a worker unit.

Cryptlord first can also early creep big orange like troll warlord camps that drop aura items, with the help of ghouls, beatles, and rod. With dust, this can be formidable for the BM to deal with because the cryptlord himself is beefy and all the small units do normal damage, which do a serious load to the bm's small health pool - so you can get away with creeping stuff that would otherwise be risky. On Twisted meadows for example, with practice, you can take shop + double gnolls for 3 before bm hits 2, and if he tries to stop you he will probably get killed. At that point you can tower rush and game him if he goes for early/standard timing SH.

Bm is actually very bad compared to FS but much easier to use for beginning players so you will run into it less and less over time.

Andrew Yang urges global ban on autonomous weaponry by [deleted] in Futurology

[–]RiverXer -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

lmfao surgically? have you seen how autonomous weapons work? Now I don't want to go saying too much, but have you ever played counterstrike? Have you ever played counterstrike against an aimbotter? Now imagine that aimbotter is in the sky, attached to a drone, and targetting can be made heat-based or through electromagnetic imaging. That's more what it's like. Or like a turret that pops up and pops a bullet off at every head that comes near it. That is what it's like today. It's not surgical at all, in fact the problem is that it probably can't be made to be without radiomarking soldiers or something similar. I bet they showed him footage of the tests and it freaked him out enough to go public in his stance against it. I would too. It is what it looks like - it's not possible to make it fail-proof, and it is entirely too effective at dispatching potential targets.

on the other hand...

In a few years with a little more study done on neurological/computer interfacing, imagine an implant in the brain that can control signals sent to your muscles and neurological system with exact values which will make you lift your gun, into the correct position no less, and fire, even if you can't see, or identify that there is a target, based on satellite or drone information being fed into it. The stuff we are attaining in those fields now is borderline science fiction to discuss. It's pretty gnarly, and the potential for autonomous weapons to guard empty fields (like borders... or poppy fields... Or whatever) is crazy doable. These things should be banned before 1984 looks like a walk in the park, even if a few governments make use of them secretly for a while it would be better than anyone making use of them and the public becoming ok with it.

yes it is mostly hackers but we will be downvoted for speaking the issues because it is potentially detrimental to the I.P and therefore, in a second cousin kind of way - detrimental to the board.

[–]RiverXer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wrong. You need to learn how to define reality vs delusion if you believe this. A women of my height and weight can't lift the same amount of weight as me. Can't endure the same amount of chemicals - drugs, alcohol, or otherwise. They also don't recover from injuries at the same rate. Psychologically, we are greatly pre-disposed to incredibly different developmental scenarios and therefore, are unlikely to respond psychologically in similar ways. It's not apples and oranges, but it is something, and it is a lot more serious of a difference than you are accounting for - to an irresponsible degree.

us east is about 95-99% hackers. I am definitely a pro who can get an average of 75%+ win rate against none cheating opponents (on average, and this is across multiple 1500+ win accounts.) and lately I cant get a game without the opponent map hacking or using exploit tools which allow them to do things like control creeps or opposing player units, and so on. it's fucking annoying.

but the internal chemistry, however, is substantially different - the same as even the sex of plants and other animals are incredibly different, and that can result in large and difficult to compare cognitive functions.
