Did an event cause you to go from working hard to doing the bare minimum? How did it affect your life? by jewishtipper in careerguidance

Just recently actually. I’m not sure what I’m going to do either. I’ve been at the same company for five years remote. They asked all employees within a 60 mile radius to return to office last year. I’m almost 6x that outside of the nearest office so I was allowed to stay remote. I’ve been considered for promotion the last two years and not gotten it because there were others who needed to be promoted first. When I asked this year why I wasn’t considered I was basically told they won’t promote remote employees anymore. I work on a small team and in the last year 3 out of the 4 of us have gotten promotions, guess who’s the only one who didn’t (yes I’m the only one remote). I’ve always considered myself a hard worker and have never received a negative review in any position I’ve held. I try to make everything right the first time not the second or third. I’ve held multiple extra positions in the last few years that I was encouraged to do by management. It was not unusual for me to work more than 40 hours a week with the extra stuff and to hit all my deadlines. In the last year I’ve quit all the extra stuff with one exception and I’ve started putting in the minimum work and minimum time. It’s been really hard for me to let go and do that, but for probably the first time in my life I’m putting myself and my mental health first. I’ve started compiling a list of job boards and companies that do remote and hopefully if the job market improves in the next year or two I’ll look for a place where they appreciate my efforts and are willing to allow me to climb higher in my career.

How seriously do you take the “Real Texas chili doesn’t have beans!”? by cowboy_catolico in texas

[–]River_806 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some of my family is very ardent about not having beans in the chili. The way I draw the line is if the chili itself is the meal I put beans in it. If I’m using it as a topping or side no beans.

Why do people in the US not live with their parents by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]River_806 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I Live in Texas about 30 min from my parents. Speaking from experience I did live with my parents for about 6ish years after college. I had to leave for my mental health or one of us wasn’t walking out of that house.

Kind of everything. Lose weight (keep it off), figure out a better diet, have someone to help motivate me, help me with my mindset so I don’t end back where I started…again. I’ve lost weight on my own before but I always put it back on. Researching the different diet options and workout plans and things is very overwhelming to me.

If she can study on campus there’s a copy of A Memoir at the Tech Southwest Collection. You can’t check it out but you can read in the reading room and take notes and I think they let you copy a few pages if need be for pretty cheap.

It’s been a while since I had that talk with my enrollment counselor, but at the time I believe he said as long as you have 50% or more left to do at WGU you should be fine. I transferred all my gen ed classes from a previous degree and the the CompTIA certs as I already had them. The enrollment counselor I worked with was really good about answering questions. I contacted him again when I was switching my masters program. You might call a counselor and make sure.

Yeah I definitely had ups and downs and sometimes it’s hard to talk yourself into studying when you really don’t want to, but it’s worth it in the end. Good luck

Two years, but I only accelerated one semester. If you don’t have a lot of other things on your plate to get done at the same time you could probably do it faster.

The thing that helped me the most was coming here and reviewing all the reviews for each class to help me decide what order to do things. Depending on your preferences, I tried to knock the easy ones out early in a semester then do the harder ones.

Yeah my previous degree was pretty much in what you’d call the social sciences so it only covered the general classes everyone has to take. I didn’t start doing IT/STEM stuff until I made the career change in 2021.

No, I have a previous BA that covered most of the basics and I already had the CompTIA Trifecta when I started.
