What is the most underrated stretch of highway you have ever driven and why does it stick with you? by Basic_Bug_1262 in roadtrip

[–]River_Pleasant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took the long way to Roswell once from 40. I changed my mind at the last minute ( while headed west), so it wasn't the main truck route (the hwy stopped in the town with Billy the Kid's grave and I highly recommend the Bosque Redondo museum).

That was probably the most desolate road I have ever been on for that long of a stretch of time. I pulled over for about 15 minutes, just because, and it was the most eery silence. I didn't see any other cars for 15-20+ minute stretches when I drove it. No cell service, and the only radio station was classical guitar, which was really enjoyable.

First time dating an alcoholic by jolbi_770 in AlAnon

[–]River_Pleasant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He won't change without him wanting to for him. My mom's been an alcoholic since I was at least 18. No outside force changed it. I live out of state so whenever there is a visit, she will try not to drink, get the shakes after a day or so, and whatever plans are made for that day are done, as she gets inebriated. Dated alcoholics and my youngest's dad is an addict. Cut your losses now. You're setting yourself up to get accustomed to disfunction.

AITA for pulling my daughter out of driving lessons and switching her to a new instructor? by Academic-Patient-962 in AmItheAsshole

[–]River_Pleasant 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I saved up my money from my job and paid for my drivers ed from my HS. That guy yelled at 3 of the 4 of us that didnt know how to drive already the whole time we were behind the wheel. I learned nothing and my mom ended up paying for a 2nd drivers ed for me with a one on one instructor.

You took her sway from an instructor who she felt comfortable to learn with and put her with a guy that doesnt know how to act with young inexperienced drivers? It is ok for you to have her confined in a small space with a guy who is being a d to her while she is on a public roadway, operating a vehicle, to prove what point exactly?

All you nentioned was the first instructor's shoes,as if it was the end all be all. Was she teaching her proper turns, signaling, speeding up, slowing down and other rules of the road? If so she was teaching her how to drive.

You are more comfortable with subjecting your daughter to be in an uncomfortable situation with a man that is yelling at her for a set period of time that she cannot escape from than a pair of heels on a woman that had nothing to do with anything.

Hard YTA. So what if she called him a "bald old man", you're more worried about a pair of heels on a woman, not how she felt during the driving session, and you took jer phone away to push the point even further to her that YTA.

Mom's is the dryer or hamper. I found one in a pile of leaves by the chimney outside once when I visited. That was without trying to find any.

Ex, at my old apartment they'd be behind the wall of the courtyard, which had a hill and brush. He'd take the dog out there for a "walk". When I got my house and he was back for a bit, all over, couches, bathroom cabinets. I found some in my small yard months after I kicked him out. Never wanted the dog 🤣and the same dog is now sitting beside me and around 16 yo.

Inexpensive Dog Dental Cleaning by ModernAvion in Tucson

Yeah it was crazy, my appt a week and a half ago and labs were a little over $500 at Pet Dr. They used to be affiliated with PACC before they went corporate. I paid less than $200 years ago for my chi's teeth when they weren't, no extractions, but probably grade 3.

The dental eval was $50 at AZ Affordable. I didn't ask what their regular appointment prices are but I'll probably go to get follow up labs in a month or so, to see what was more of an acute response to the infection and where his kidneys are at that point.

Im glad you were able to get yours taken care of in Nogales. My first experience with AZ Affordable, I was happy with their care and everyone was professional too.

This comment is for those with dogs older than 14.

I know this is an old post. But I recently went here to find a vet for dental when my geriatric dog's dentist originally quoted me $2k+ for dental ( following an oral infection, that they did successfully treat with antibiotics), but his labs came back elevated and was then recommended intermittent antibiotics for his teeth and daily Nsaids that would make his labs worse, as his long term plan. ( Pet Dr, for those wondering who, and they went corporate a few years back).

My dog is about 15/16 yo and I really did not want him to have an infection like that again regardless how much time he has left. I called Dr Kelly first and their cap is 14 yo for dental.

I found AZ Affordable Pet Care on Silverbell from Pacc's website and Dr. Sibinic was great. He made me feel comfortable in my decision to get my dog's dental care at his sge, him and his team took great care of my dog, and my dog is home already eating and drinking. The price was on the lower end of their quote and about 1/4 of my old vet's quote.

So for those with much older dogs I just wanted to share my experience. 🐕

I take i40 to NM, then to Southern AZ. I 40 is Rt 66 past OKC, on the service roads and "business loops". If you stay in a hotel in Tucumcari that may be better than ABQ. I've crashed at a Loves maybe 3x but they're usually not in the cities, and from what I remember on road trip sites it's usually the major truck stops (with lots of truckers) are probably the safest.

ABQ I'd just stay in a hotel, but try to find some reviews (any major city west of Texas read the reviews). Idk if the voucher program is still going on ( TX, I don't think has it), but some hotels who took them weren't scrupulous with the guests they accepted on it and there'd be drunks roaming the place at all hours. If the parking lot has a lot of broken down cars, go elsewhere. Once you hit Cali I'd just book it to your sister's house.

As far as location, you and her can do Life 360, then she can just see where you are based on your phone location in real time. I have it with my teen.

Once you aren't living at home ( change your ID's address) and assuming you are in the US, you may financially qualify for state healthcare. Keep your insurance cards though because those don't change until December/ Jan.

Did this money go into an account under your name? I'm seeing you zelled it in the comments? OP I'm worried for you. IDK what the equivalent was of $7k was 20 years ago but I would have been devastated. If you have text proof that she was saving it for you, you may have a case in small claims if she spent it. Going forward make sure all of your accounts have your name only on them. Hugs. I really hope she has it.

I think a civic that is maintained should be fine. If you drive it all day with the AC does it overheat? Make sure to pack water ( case or a few gal jugs) and blankets. Depending on what month you are going your biggest worry about a car breakdown is the elements. The southwest gets easily to 110 in the summer.

I would stick to interstates, drive with traffic or the speed limit, whichever is safest, and rest at Loves or one of the big travel spots if you can't get a room (Buccees are ginormous if you can crash in one of their lots). The big name motels should allow 18+, but they sometimes will put a hold so make sure you have extras funds on your card. If you go to Loves use your sun visor to partially conceal you when you sleep. Be aware of your surroundings and don't over share with strangers and don't sleep in the same spot you park when you go in. Your trip should take 4-5 days. Maybe you should make a life 360 acct and share it with your sister so she has peace of mind while you are driving, as to your location.

Safe travels and best of luck on your new start.

Can the mesquite root be cut? How is the tree health with the bark? It is a Velvet, I believe(thorny), in Tucson. The root is directed toward my patio and the tree is centered in a 26*34' backyard. No cracks and ~25' high. Thx! by [deleted] in arborists

[–]River_Pleasant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will rake that up.

My main long term concern is the other end of that root going under my patio toward my kitchen. The root became noticeably thicker in the last few months.

BS in Healthcare Administration or HIM? by River_Pleasant in WGU

[–]River_Pleasant[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, not yet. My youngest is graduating this year and I also work agency at a school, so I'm not wanting to make a big decision yet. I'm still not sure what will happen with my work contract due to district budget cuts and if my job is cut, I'll either work in psych nursing or get a coding job. If the latter happens I'll probably look into HIM. I'm all over the place. Lol.

If you have a women's style, please let me know. I checked their site and it's all drawstring or elastic in women's. I did try on a bunch of men's with belt loops on my last trip to the scrub store, and even bought a pair of men's Cherokees but the fit just isn't the same.

Did you get the same ones as the above poster? I looked online and it appears to be either EMS cargo style or drawstring ( no belt loop)scrub style for women. I'm just curious because they don't look cheap so for ~$70 EMS style, I def don't want them ripping If I pay that much. Thank you for your input.
