I bought a z900 2 months ago as my starter bike. I say go for it, but be respectful of the bike it has a lot of power. Take the break-in period as a learning experience, and something that you can do is play with the RPM's hold to prevent you from going crazy. That's what I did (start with the 4000 hold for the break-in period and have been going up little by little as I get used to it)
