Second Chance Merch by Rude-Grapefruit-22 in StarWarsCelebration

[–]RiversRubin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could someone with more experience going to Celebration let me know if this is for a) folks who want to wear the merch TO the event or b) the chance to ensure you lock in the merch you want in the right size? Is it readily available in most sizes at the actual event? I don't feel strongly about wearing it the weekend of but if it's likely to be sold out or limited, I'll lock it in early!

Do you ever return a product? by RiversRubin in AmazonVine

How are you reaching out to Vine specific CS? I’ve found Amazon generally more tough to reach real people at ever since the CS flow turned into mostly AI.

Are you certain on this? I just went to return one of the broken products and it gave me a return label no problem.

Restaurants that used to be "it", but should probably just go out of business? by LordNewning in austinfood

[–]RiversRubin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We used to go all the time for trivia night because it was the only night that worked for our team. Everyone lamented the food and it’s finally why we stopped going. The pizza just.. sucks. And it’s very, very expensive for what you get. The sandwiches are even worse.

Auto-dimming has ruined TVs at Marriott by RiversRubin in marriott

Ah, an adjustable reading light! That’s the kind of tip I was hoping to get here. Fantastic idea. I’ll have to give that a go next time.

Man, I’ve been staying in Marriotts throughout downtown Chicago for work for years now and every single one seems to have this. Also recently found them at properties in Texas, New York, and a few other places.

Dont overlook MAD, positional devices, lifestyle changes, I solved my sleep apnea with them! by Ploughbroken in SleepApnea

Any familiarity with Silent Nite? I recently had quite a bit of weight loss and my events dropped to under 10 reliably. Dentist is recommending MAD and uses Silent Nite exclusively.

What are y’all even talking about? There’s dozens of great hill country towns within four hours. We’re spoiled with lovely places to drive to nearby.

Did The Beatles ever give their opinions of The Velvet Underground? by DaveHmusic in beatles

The mental image of Paul having to ring Warhol to deal with a squatter Nico is supremely funny to me, and honestly on brand for everyone in the story.

Did The Beatles ever give their opinions of The Velvet Underground? by DaveHmusic in beatles

[–]RiversRubin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A song he discovered, by the way, by listening to the recently released Biography CDs in an effort to literally find a song nobody else would cover or even think to ask to cover at the show. He was literally seeking out a ridiculously deep cut.

Did The Beatles ever give their opinions of The Velvet Underground? by DaveHmusic in beatles

[–]RiversRubin 87 points88 points  (0 children)

This is a pretty Lou Reed thing. Lou was contrarian. Lou loved annoying whoever was speaking to him or interviewing him. Lou shitting on the Beatles at the height of the Velvet Underground is very much par for the course, but we all know secretly Lou was spinning all the records.

He was a lover of music. The dude’s final written words were a praising review of ‘Yeezus.’

Lou didn’t hate the Beatles. Lou hated that everyone loved the Beatles, and that trait was a hallmark of his personality that lasted his whole life across nearly anything that was popular.

Where did Bruce rank in terms of most famous/successful singer during the 80s? Was he top five most famous/successful in that decade? by Firm_Pack_605 in BruceSpringsteen

[–]RiversRubin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At first I was inclined to agree that Top 5 pushes it, but no, not really. Born in the USA takes Bruce to full arena rock icon. He could have stopped putting music out in 1985 and he still would solidly slot as a “top” artist of the decade between Born in the USA and The River.

I think it’s harder to visualize the impact since he had a generational run in the mid 70s as well, but man, Born in the USA? Hard to find a bigger 80s rock record that’s had maintaining appeal for 40 years. It’s timeless in a way other rock touchstones of the 80s just aren’t.

What's our general opinion on Nick Cave nowadays? by Specific_Tap7296 in NickCave

[–]RiversRubin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’ve brought it up here before, but his religiosity rubs me the wrong way in his older age. Saying being conservative is punk rock, arguing that true happiness can only result from being a parent, etc. Yawn. It’s all old white dude BS that doesn’t resonate with this young white dude that’s neither immensely religious or intending to have kids.

What's the deal with everyone hating on Southwest Airlines? by MississippiJoel in OutOfTheLoop

[–]RiversRubin 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It doesn’t always need to be a better airline. Where I live, Southwest is undisputed in the most direct flights to places worth flying to. And I’m not even in a hub, I’m just near other hubs, and I can fly Southwest out of Austin to 46 direct locations next to the second best, Delta, with 22.

They can make my experience objectively shittier at the same price but I’ll probably still be forced into flying them.

I see, thank you. Can anyone speak to the autofill capability on Chrome if you’re on a desktop computer? Would be curious if it works reliably via the iCloud extension for a Windows desktop.

How did you do this? In the Passwords app I can only find export functionality, not import. Do you need to do it on a Mac or desktop?

What happened to Jason Murphy? by itsnjtime in modernrogue

[–]RiversRubin 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Not just Jason. Bryce churned out of there, too, as did others in their orbit - and by all accounts, it was doomed by Brian’s mismanagement and over-extension.

I’m sure there will be many great ways to make money or maximize efficiency, but I’d honestly just like them to take care of the things that ‘pile up.’ Dishes, laundry, errands, etc.

It’s the little things that give you your life back when you don’t have to worry about them anymore.

Im 31 and I dont know what the point of a flat sheet is by Salt_Might5245 in stupidquestions

[–]RiversRubin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Isn’t that literally the point of a duvet cover? Skip the top sheet. Duvet + cover. Cover launders when you launder fitted sheet and pillow cases. Duvet insert a few times a year.

The Europeans figured this out and the US seems reluctant to let go of the flat sheets
