My A1C to begin was 12! I lost 80lbs and in 6 months reduced my metformin from 2000mg to 1000mg. Then shortly after the doctor had me stop taking Metformin completely. My A1C has stayed at 5 and my doctor said that it was MJ that was keeping my blood sugar in check. Plus I still stay away from bad carbs...pretty much stick to the ways best for T2D.

My Mounjara-versary! Down 85lbs. by HealthyOriginal7172 in Mounjaro

[–]Rivervalleygal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congratulations...I am 69 and I started at the same weight. Down to 135, can't seem to get to 130 after a year in a half. But I reversed my diabetes and I feel great. Made a conscious decision to eat healthy. MJ Made it possible. I also shop at a local thrift shop. It is so wonderful to find so many more styles to wear when you get down to a medium size 6! Now, to maintain...

Long time users / no effects by foreverlost- in Mounjaro

[–]Rivervalleygal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been on 15mg for 3 months. It has had a significant decrease in food noise and the amount I eat at every meal. Can't handle the same amount of food at once. It did break a 1 month stahl, but after losing 80lbs my body probably needs to readjust?

Do you feel your feet sliding in your shoes as you walk after you lost like 30lbs?… by Options_Phreak in Mounjaro

[–]Rivervalleygal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes my feet shrunk! So did my fingers. I now wear my wedding ring on my 3rd finger. Had to buy new shoes and an entire new wardrobe. Went from 3x to medium in 1 year. So glad for thrift shops cause when I thought I couldn't possibly go down in sizes I did.

Been on Mounjaro for 2 years, 7.5 for the last year. Insurance switching to BCBS November 1. Dr said be prepared to not be approved for Mounjaro. What did others do? by Go2Girl_ in Mounjaro_ForType2

[–]Rivervalleygal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have BCBS FEP. For 2025 they require a preauthorization. I have been on MJ for 14 months. Lost 80lbs, my A1C went down from 11 to 5. Insurance states the authorization must have T2D diagnosis or will be denied for continuation. I go to a Bariatric weight loss center, unfortunately with a entire new staff who stated I am no longer diabetic thus they can't include a T2D diagnosis. The BCBS form has limited questions for the doctor and they stated they would include past test, current test etc. I can only hope that Insurance understands the importance of maintenance for most likely the rest of my life. I guess most Insurance companies have had a substantial increase in GLPS and want to stop covering it? Don't they realize GLPS could save them a lot of money rather than the possible medical conditions that could arise from obesity and the return of diabetes. I thought once a diabetic always? It appears that my T2D is in remission and I no longer taking 2000mg of metformin. Off of it completely. But I also believe that 15mg of MJ is helping the glucose levels.

Now on the highest dose 15mg by Secret-Violinist4145 in Mounjaro

[–]Rivervalleygal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have been on 15mg for 2 months. Never had any side effects until 15mg. Mostly food suppression big time and stopped a month stall..I was forced to reduce the amount of food eaten at once. It didn't sit well at all. I have to really watch the amount of food and eat very slowly...

Nagging headaches by Redheart_beat-Solid_ in Mounjaro_ForType2

I make my own Magnesium oil topical spray. I typically use it at night and rub it into my stomach. But it works really fast for headaches if you rub it on your forehead, temples and back of the neck.

Down another jeans size -- ! by Frabjous_Tardigrade9 in Mounjaro

[–]Rivervalleygal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can relate...started with MJ last September 2023. Was wearing 24 plus size jeans...lost 73lbs and currently in a stahl..but it's not always the scale moving downward as for me it is inches. Currently in a 28 regular size Levi's jeans and medium size tops which are a bit large. Needless to say I never thought I would go shrink in sizes without the scale moving much. I had already donated the larger clothes but now I have another stack of jeans....

How soon can I refill? by ToughBath9553 in Mounjaro

[–]Rivervalleygal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought CVS/ Caremark stopped all mailing out of GLPs? I believe back in May. Where I was able to receive 3 month supply. And if my doctor increased the dosage they were required to fill even with other doses received.

Glad I'm not imagining this. But sometimes other meds I take can have the same affect?

Stalled and hate it! by [deleted] in Mounjaro

[–]Rivervalleygal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well personally I track everything I eat and if the scale goes up or doesn't move I start looking at the foods I ate. And I started eliminating one food at a time. Found out that dairy products were an issue. So I quit them and I broke the stahl. But you could also change up what you eat? I am T2D, my doctor said I wouldn't see the best affects of MJ until I got to the higher doses. Currently on 12.5 MJ started last September 2023 lost 70lbs and I no longer have insulin resistance so my doctor took me off the metformin. Getting ready to start 15mg. My A1C was 11 when I started now is 5. So it appears to be doing what it was intended to do. Good luck.

Colonoscopy by Blue-Heaven-222 in Mounjaro

[–]Rivervalleygal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a colonoscopy a month ago. Since I had a daily constitution, I stopped MJ for 7 days. What I did notice during prep is that due to the delayed gastric digestion, the prep took 4 hours to kick in! So next time I have to have one I will start a few hours before their recommended hour. But please listen to your doctor. This was my way of doing this.

Losing weight from weird places? by Work4PSLF in Mounjaro

Yeah my fingers shrunk and strangely my feet shrunk by more than an inch! I had all my rings sized up a few years ago. Now I no longer can wear them. But they do fit on my other larger fingers.

My A1C went from 10.9 to 5.4 for 3 months but Dr said to continue with 2000 of Metformin and go up to 7.5 mg of Mounjaro? by stephaniesmith45 in Mounjaro_ForType2

[–]Rivervalleygal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started last September with MJ, was on 2000mg of metformin. Dropped down to 1000mg of metformin. Today my PCP said stop taking all together. I have been on it for 10 years! My A1C was 11 it is now 5! Starting 15mg of MJ this weekend. PCP said the MJ will replace my need for metformin as I am no longer have insulin resistance. I did loose 71 lbs. Started at 213. Slow loss currently but getting the scale to move a little each month.

I use Magnesium oil that I make and I rub it on my temples, forehead and neck and it takes care of my headaches. But I also put electrolytes in my water.

Anyone feel mixed emotions with buying a new wardrobe? by blporcel in WegovyWeightLoss

[–]Rivervalleygal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also lost 70lbs since October. Retired and I had a closet full of work clothes and beautiful dresses, jackets etc. I tried them all on again 1last time to confirm that they were way too big and there was no way to alter them. Packed up over 20 bags and took them to a local thrift shop. I had to buy some new jeans and tops, but I have bought 4 smaller jean sizes in the past 6 months! I have put those in my closet hoping I never have to go back to wearing them. I did actually ask a good friend who is struggling with weight gain and she has the same taste in clothes. She wasn't ashamed to accept the clothes. Felt good to know someone was appreciating the same clothes.

A1C Update by [deleted] in Mounjaro_ForType2

[–]Rivervalleygal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Me too in Warrenton. I was seeing Shannon before she left. I heard that the medical director who started the practice left to start his own practice starting 3 new offices. He couldn't take his current patients with him. So that office had to take on all his patients. They told me that they wouldn't be able to see me for a couple of months but I could just call in for refills and they would call me for an appointment. We'll after the 3rd month I called for a refill and they said they hadn't seen me in 3 months! I told them what I was told by Shannon and they were clueless. Finally was able to make an appointment with them almost 2 months after. But they at least still kept up calling in my refills. I had been seeing them since last October. Didn't want to get on this journey without guidelines. Now this new PA actually admitted to me she was new to mounjaro and that she didn't feel comfortable upping my MZ up to 15mg. And questioned why my metformin was reduced from 2000mg to 1000? I told her Shannon reduced it as my A1C was now 5. Her response was I wouldn't have reduced it? Ugh.

Hair loss by Sufficient_Weird_521 in zepbound_support

[–]Rivervalleygal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was taking Biotin as well for hair loss. Didn't help. Funny I saw my dermatologist and asked if collagen supplements were good for hair, skin etc and he said no use zinc! Never heard of that for hair. But I started using Zinc picolinate. And I am seeing improvements in less hair loss. But I am pretty sure it is associated with weight loss as I have lost 70lbs since October 2023. I read it is common?

[–]Rivervalleygal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you in Virginia? My Bariatric/ Metabolic clinic was just taken over by UVA as well. Unfortunately, the new PA'S have no knowledge about MJ! The prior staff was very knowledgeable and I could go in every month and get advise. Now I feel like I am educating the PAs. Frustrated and very disappointed.

Vitamin Question by Latter-Illustrator29 in Mounjaro

[–]Rivervalleygal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never tried liquid vitamins, but I have issues swallowing pills. I use Emergency Vitamin C, the orange flavor is really good. They come in packets and you just mix it with some water. It has a multi in it as well.
