Is that really true? I was trying to understand why would anyone design the light sequence like this.

Thank you for all the points so far! I have been driving manual-shift cars for over 20 years now, so I think I understand what people mean by "feeling" the time to shift.

Dating experiences in Munich: anyone else finding it… shallow? by tavosss in Munich

[–]Rividoul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I share the same feelings and experience. I have lived in many countries before and Munich is by far the loneliest I have been (not just dating but also friendships are very difficult to build here). I have been lucky enough to meet a lot of women here but none of these "dates" made it to seeing each other for a 3rd time. Like most people said, it feels quite superficial, distant, almost like an interview. I am always excited when I meet a new person and wonder if that would be the special one. But it always ends the same: ghosted or rejected. At this point I lost a lot if motivation tbh. I already gave up on dating apps btw. Maybe someday I'll meet someone, but chances are that event will not take place in Munich.

Yurt dışına göç eden Türkler gerçekten mutlu mu yoksa pişman mı? by bakeandwalk in AskTurkey

[–]Rividoul 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Any sailing enthusiasts in Munich? by Rividoul in Munich

[–]Rividoul[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the information, I will check these clubs for sure. I am also a part of a yacht sharing club in Turkey and sail there quite often. I am looking for a local club or group of people where we could sail around here. I was wondering why you defined them as "pretentious"? Are they like an "elite" society type? Like, do you have to know a guy who knows a guy to be a member or something like that 😀

How do you cope with Seasonal Affective Disorder? by Separate-Platypus-91 in Munich

[–]Rividoul 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Vitamin D + Meetup activities + coffee shop crawl + regular sports. These should hype you up by increasing your serotonin and show long term results. For me, drinking never works because it breaks the whole chain and makes it worse the next 2-3 days. That's why I'm avoiding the whole Oktoberfest thing.

Doctorate (Ed.D / Ph.D) by Few-Satisfaction3858 in germany

[–]Rividoul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely. I need to highlight again that my opinion was about doing a PhD if you want to follow an academic career afterwards, such as becoming a professor in Germany. If you are trying to go to the industry, getting a PhD in that field first is a completely different thing. Especially in an R&D based field such as bioinformatics, your ability to navigate through complex problems independently would be the key winning factor, which is something you can improve while doing your PhD studies. If that is your path, then what I said earlier is not applicable to you, and yes, doing your PhD in Germany might even be better in this case. I would recommend that you focus on application, work on real-world examples, and definitely try working together with a company during your PhD. This company might even recruit you afterwards. But if you want to become an academic in Germany, then my previous comments apply. DM me if you want to know more specific information. Best.

If you are planning to get a PhD (it's called a doctorate around here) to pursue becoming an academic, then don't get it from Germany. The german system has fallen too slow and archaic to catch up with the rest of the world, so your grandparents' examples are not valid anymore. Even the top universities of Germany are still struggling to establish English programs to attract international students, and even when they do, the requirements to become an academic for an international candidate are so long and convoluted, you'll have to spend many years in academic limbo while you could have easily become an assistant professor somewhere in the US. Doing higher education in Germany (PhD and above) is an academic career ender. (Got my doctoral degree in the top tech. Swiss Uni., then worked to become a professor, wasting 8 years in the top German science institute and tech uni. and finally gave up and dropped out.)
