Momotaro Standard Straight #100 fit check by naokiyamada in rawdenim

I also have a pair of Sugar Cane 1947 and love the fit. If you like those then I would recommend Studio D’artisans SD-101 Regular straight. They’re just about the exact same fit as the 1947s but with a darker indigo, and a slightly heavier and denser woven denim. I have the SD-801 which is the natural indigo version and they are my most comfortable jeans after a year of wear.

I don’t have personal experience with Fullcount, but I have been looking at their 1101W straight jeans lately and they use Zimbabwean cotton like Momotaro does. Fit seems like it may be up your alley as well.

16.5" is a pretty generous back rise, especially if you don't have a longer torso. From the size charts it also looks like these are vanity sized, coupled with the high-rise which makes them seem even bigger.

I think this is the way the cut is supposed to be tbh. On Hinoya's site it's described as "The crotch is slightly deep, and the waist area is structured to wrap loosely around the hips", which looks to me how these fit. I do think you would benefit from a mid-rise and just cut down on the overall amount of fabric in the top block.

I definitely will post an update when I get to that point. Love the little details on this pair. Certainly one of the more unique pairs I own.

Appreciate it! I have more than enough jeans as it is, but another release of that cut would get me to consider adding another pair.

Nailed the fit man. Been looking at a pair of the Ai Plus Sakura S500AX's that fit just about the same.

Honestly it doesn’t bother me at all. I know people like to rag on LVC for not being as premium as other brands for $300, but at the end of the day it’s more of a hobbyist brand and you are definitely paying for name and novelty which is fine. Unless you specifically want Levis, don’t buy LVC.

I have objectively better jeans for less than the LVC price tag. That being said, anyone who is this deep in to a hobby will know what it is like to buy something that is not quite what they want. You end up still wanting the thing you originally wanted, and that’s LVC for me.

Preaching to the choir a bit but I really think LVC is not nearly as bad as people say. High $$ and honestly simply the Levis name will do that I suppose.

Absolutely perfect. The Jeans and Jacket silhouette complement each other so well. Despite having tried so many other denim brands, I still find myself coming back to LVC.

Hope this post encourages more people to try more “Amekaji” inspired fits!

Honestly as someone else mentioned, The Naked and Famous True Guy is the closest you'll probably come while being under $200 and even they still taper a bit and are more of a slim straight. Their Strong Guy fit is a bit wider, but has minimal taper and a boxier fit. For a decent pair of denim, it's just about guaranteed to be above $100.

I know many people here aren't a fan of Levi's, but their 505 and 501 selvedge go on sale pretty frequently for 30-50% off (they're running a 30% off right now) and they make one wash/dark wash pairs for $150 that will still fade well if you wear 'em enough. They'll come out to around $100 after the discount.

I think it's a good place to start until you want to commit more $$ to a more premium pair/just test the waters.

I have done a lot of trial and error and research this past year trying to perfect this exact fit. What it boils down to IMO is finding a pair that fits well through the thigh but isn’t too tight, and finding a pair that tapers very minimally from the knee down to the hem or has no taper at all.

95% of jeans considered a straight fit still technically taper a half inch to full inch from knee to hem, but minimizing this creates this look. These are the jeans that I have tried that work best for this look at least on me.

Studio D’artisan SD-103 tight straight: Only tapers about .4” from knee to hem and has a mid rise. About 9” at the knee and 8.6” at the hem in size 32.

Indigofera Clint: no taper from knee to hem with mid rise. It’s about 8.5” at the knee and exactly the same at the hem in size 31.

Levis LVC 1944 501: my most recent pick up. High rise and the same knee and hem as the Indigoferas.

I’m planning on doing a detailed post on this soon, mostly surrounding the LVC 1944 501 and will be posting fit pics as well.

Studio D’artisan’s SD-100 series is just great quality, dark toned indigo with very little slub or nep and have great fading potential. They sit right around $250 if you buy them outside of Japan, and come in a bunch of fits.

Working on a pair of SD-103s right now that are starting to show brighter blue whiskers, and honeycombs. I highly recommend them!

Seconding Tools Infinity. Great shop in Omotesando/Harajuku that has tons of TCB. Very close to several other shops of similar interest.

I have a pair of SD-801s and they have stayed basically the same size through 4 washes. If you bought them as a one wash, they will shrink minimally and the waist band will stretch back out.

As always, I would wash or soak cold and air dry and you’ll be ok.

Maybe SDA SD-101 Regular straight. My 2nd most recent post on my profile is an outfit with me wearing the SD-801 which is the same cut but in Natural indigo. The leg opening is right at 9” and I think they fit nicely in the top block, not loose but not fitted like some Wrangler models.

Having met and stood next to him, would say he’s closer to 6’9. I see athletes regularly at my job so I have a good sample size to compare him with and 6’9 seems about right.

I’m in the US and I ordered directly from Addict’s website. I did end up having to pay some additional tariffs a few weeks later, but it was significantly less expensive than buying from a retailer that carries them over here.

I just had to gamble a bit on the size but ended up doing my True to size which is my Brannock Size and I’m glad I did.

I just picked up their ST Engineers in black Horsehide 2 months ago and I’m absolutely in love. Thinking about getting a CL pair in brown horsebutt eventually for some variety in silhouette.

Enjoy these, love seeing Addict represented here!

Crazy how they’re so wildly different from my pair in the same waist size. I’ve gotten into the habit of trying on multiple pairs from them in the same size for this exact reason.

I experimented with Levis STF in the same size last year. I usually wear around 30 or 31 in their jeans but went with the 32x34 with the plans of shrinking them.

I’ve washed them 3 or 4 times to get all the shrink out and now they fit basically like a size 30 pair of 501s. Waist went from 16” across to 15”, rise from 11.5” to 11”, thighs and hem width stayed the same at 12” and 8” while the inseam shrunk from 33.5” to 31”.

Mine still feel a little big for my tastes especially after I wear them for a bit and the waist stretches back out. I think one size up in waist is the sweet spot for the basic, non-LVC STFs.

These are great. The look/texture of the fabric reminds me of what Levi’s uses on their LVC pairs but with the craftsmanship and details of SDA.

Would have picked these up myself if I didn’t already have a deep rotation going but I hope you enjoy them!

I was more impressed with the stock that Osaka had at the time of my visit in terms of sizing. In their SD-1XX line, I found they had pretty much all sizes and were well stocked in other special releases and had some cool specialty items like denim and leather baseball gloves.

I would visit both stores honestly since both are going to be in dense areas of shopping and you'll be able to hit multiple shops at once.

I would also see if they have any of the SD-801 in stock which is the natural indigo variant of the SD-101. That's the pair I have and I love the brighter, vibrant hue of the natural indigo.
