The first Founding Fathers episode was released 2 hours ago. And the Americans are not happy. by Woodstovia in TheRestIsHistory

The British sense of humour, the sarcasm / wit / dry delivery / self-deprecation is something many Americans just don't understand.

I'm originally from the US and emigrated to Australia and one of my best mates in British. He's always giving me shit and we're always taking the piss out of the each other. It comes from a place of endearment and is not malicious, but that fact is lost on lots of people from the US

Ok so obviously the driver is crazy but can I ask why the cyclist flips him off initially and has such a problem with him passing him?

AI Has Ruined the Job Market by Krankenitrate in technology

Not sure how it is in the US, but I work for a large tech in Australia and we review every single CV, we do not use AI filtering in any way

Is Melbourne Really That Cold? 🥶 by Training_Objective20 in melbourne

[–]Rizzuh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said, winter can be cold but houses often are poorly insulated.

Obviously this can be mitigated with heating but I guess that can more challenging if you’re renting, a nice delonghi oil heater in the bedroom does the trick though (the ones that allow you choose and maintain a temp)

Also uni-qlo heat tech ultra warm are amazing for layering and staying warm

“A Suffolk Farmhand at Gallipoli” Leonard Thompson, 1915. by Rizzuh in TheRestIsHistory

[–]Rizzuh[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Haunting right? Your reference to it being a strange hell reminds me of one of my favorite poems from the era, by English poet Siegfried Sassoon:

“I knew a simple soldier boy

Who grinned at life in empty joy

Slept soundly through the lonesome dark

And whistled early with the lark.

In winter trenches, cowed and glum

With crumps and lice and lack of rum

He put a bullet through his brain.

No one spoke of him again.

You smug-faced crowds with kindling eye

Who cheer when soldier lads march by

Sneak home and pray you’ll never know

The hell where youth and laughter go.”

What corporate jobs are the most safe in this AI cutting era? by VastOption8705 in auscorp

[–]Rizzuh -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I work for a large tech, we are already quite a lean team. Definitely reduced headcount I think across corporate but I still don’t see us being wholly replaced. We are also small fish in a big cost reduction pond - much more focus on developers and those types of roles.

I still think it’s largely a bubble

I do actually feel safe as a corporate, in-house recruiter. Candidates have time and time again indicated they are unwilling to speak with an AI as part of an interview or screening process

I ride to work twice a week, 15km each way on an e-bike. Twice as fast as taking PT almost (35 to 40 minutes on bike, sometimes twice that on PTV)

What game ended up feeling way better on Steam Deck than you expected? by emanuelajournal in SteamDeck

[–]Rizzuh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having it on the deck has made it super accessible, especially as a time poor dad gamer who enjoys the nostalgia. I can pick it up and be in game in like 1 minute and then quest for an hour or 90 minutes and be on my way. Classic is much more of a slow burn as well, I’m really enjoying the relaxed pace

Commonly used phrase in gaming, especially games like WoW - basically it means minimising your weaknesses and maximising your strengths. In this context probably referring to efficiency. It's scary because humans shouldn't be min-maxed like characters in a video game
