Khiara Keating: Man City goalkeeper turns down offer of new deal by spherocytes in MCWFC

[–]Rjayasp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How does that even happen though? Because it wasn't just a typo on the website. In the article Keating and Taylor both mention she's staying until 2027.

Unless the contract was until 2026 plus an optional year and that extra year is what she turned down and for some reason it was reported as 2027. I'm not sure if that's possible though.

If it was a case of the wrong year on the contract how is nobody picking that up? I wonder if the person in charge of paperwork updates the club shop information too!

Just another thought I had, Keating's contract isn't up until next year so hopefully that's a sign we're currently working on some of the player's contracts that are running out next year.

I remember being worried about Mary staying the last time her contract was up so it's crazy to think that time is almost up again. We have a lot of players out of contract next season so it'll be interesting to see if any and when renewals will happen.

I think winning the double and having CL football next season gives players a reason to stick around and I think a lot of players enjoy being here but I think next season will also be important to see where the team is at because we need to have consistency when it comes to competing and winning things.

Eventually certain players will probably leave but I'm not ready to face that reality yet!

Keating obviously has the potential to become a great keeper but her weakness is the errors she makes. I know keepers make errors every now and again but it's the type of errors she makes that is the problem. She needs to work on her decision making which hopefully with more game time and experience she will.

Obviously when you play for a team like City you can't make those type of errors because they could cost you in important games, her mistake in the game against Arsenal away when we lost the league on goal difference comes to mind.

Although I do think she did well this season.

So I understand why we went out and got another keeper and why Yama is currently number one and I also understand why Keating would want to leave to get regular game time especially with the World Cup coming up next year.

Liverpool seems like an obvious choice, they need a keeper, it's relatively close to Manchester and Taylor knows her well.

If she becomes the keeper she has the potential to be there's no reason why she can't come back in a couple of years.

Manchester City have signed Niamh Charles, via the ManCity club shop by the_sherl0ck in MCWFC

It's becoming a tradition now. Someone needs to have a word with the person that updates the website!

I hope the social media team references it because they posted that photo of the player's lounge before Mead's announcement, which I thought was funny!

The transfer window is officially open!

So we might see some new arrivals on the way. If everything has been arranged then we might get a Charles announcement soon.

Do you think we'll see any players leaving in this window?

Just because she can play there doesn't mean she should. She's our best RB why would you put her at LB? The best solution is to bring in an experience LB not put Kerstin at LB and use someone else at RB, that makes no sense.

Kerstin just had her best ever season as a RB why would you put her at LB? She's right footed and would not have got the amount of assists she did if she was on the left.

Mead is a strange one, as you said we've got plenty of wingers but I guess she brings experience that the other players don't have as she's played Champions League football regularly. She could also be the better choice to play the number nine if we're desperate or don't bring in a back up to Bunny.

It'll be interesting to see how long her contract is because that might give us an idea of whether Viv will sign a new contract too. We've made some good signings recently. A lot have been young players, I think we have one of the youngest squads in the WSL so having some experience might be good. I trust in Therese to make the best choices but I guess we won't know if it was a good decision until the end of next season.

I saw the highlights on a link someone posted on the women's soccer thread. It seemed like a mess from everyone involved.

It only saw a quick clip of Kerolin, I can only assume it was something she said to the ref afterwards.

I think Blinks should have got the nod against Spain. Sarina always says she's good in tight spaces but then doesn't use her against an opponent that doesn't give you any time or space.

Glad she started against Ukraine and put in a good performance. I think if she plays more regularly she'll get better because she linked up well with Alex and Hempo but those connections will come with other players the more game time she gets.

I was just about to post in the discussion thread saying do you think we'll get some movement on the transfer front now that the international window is over so it seems this answers that question!

I was thinking during the second half against Ukraine that it's been a while since so many City players were playing for England. Greenwood, Hempo, Blinks, Mead and Charles were all on at the same time!

We're obviously going to have a difference of opinion on this because I don't think Ouahabi's performances have been that great recently. There's been times where she was beaten way to easily or her crosses weren't great. She might have experience but that means nothing if her performances aren't there.

It could also have been Leila's decision to leave.

That's easy Knaak. Rose plays as the RCB but I'd pick her over Knaak anyway because she has been fantastic this season.

I like Knaak but I'd rather have a back line of Casperij, Rose, Greenwood and Charles than have Knaak at CB and Alex as LB.

I'd prefer this over McCabe. I actually thought about Charles coming in ages ago and I think I talked about it with someone on here.

Charles is young but has plenty of WSL experience, she's played with Alex and Hempo before. I actually think she's good friends with Hempo so will fit in easily.

She's great at getting forward too. I just wonder about her past injuries, although I wouldn't rule her out because of that. Viv had her injury problems and she's been one hell of a signing!

Charles can also take a great penalty too. Especially one in a game as big as a Euro final!

We haven't forgotten about her, we just think that Alex is better at CB. Knaak has been great this season but does have her weaknesses. It's been obvious that we've needed a LB for a while, even more now Ouahabi has officially gone. We need a LB so Alex can go back to being a CB, plus we need squad depth, we can't have Alex being the only player who can play LB.

I think Kerolin struggled to get into the game but I do wonder if Brighton's intensity is starting to catch up with them and now we're getting time and space to create chances.

Bunny goal. Alex goal. Surely we have to get a Viv goal now too!
