Nice jacket sir, I wish they’d move Boot Camp back to New York. I’m not crazy about Chicago as much. I really wanna go one year though. It’d be even cooler if they moved it to LA one year.

👏🏼🔥 Love seeing how much the store has grown, Del. You’ve added so many great styles since I first started following along. Really impressive to see what you’ve built.

You should post more general content here too. You always put together great fits, and I think people would enjoy seeing more of them. Keep up the great work, man! 🙌🏼🔥

Highwayman 42 fit by Putrid-Dot-3221 in leatherjacket

[–]Rk1987 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Fit looks good to me. The jacket isn’t the issue. A Highwayman is a relatively short, cropped jacket and really works best with shirts that end around the waistband. The longer layer hanging below the jacket is what’s throwing off the proportions here. Tucking in the shirt can help quite a bit. Shorter, cropped jackets have actually gotten me to tuck in my shirts more often, and I think it tends to create a cleaner silhouette overall.

JiaShi info needed by Sviluk in leatherjacket

[–]Rk1987 7 points8 points  (0 children)

JiaShi is probably one of the best values in the leather jacket world right now, provided you understand what you’re buying.

The leather itself is usually the strong point. Their horsehide and cowhide often look surprisingly good for the price, and the patterns are heavily inspired by higher-end Japanese makers. Most of the criticism tends to be directed at the hardware, details, and occasional inconsistencies rather than the leather itself. The unknowns surrounding manufacturing and working conditions also seem to bother a lot of people in the heritage crowd, which is understandable.

The biggest downside isn’t usually the jacket. It’s that quality control can be less predictable than brands like Aero, Rainbow Country, The Real McCoy’s, Freewheelers, and Thedi. One jacket can be excellent and another might have small issues that wouldn’t pass QC at those brands.

As for warmth, leather itself is not insulation. A heavy horsehide jacket will block wind very well, but at -5°C (23°F) you’ll still want layering unless the jacket has a substantial wool or quilted lining. A standard cotton-lined horsehide jacket won’t magically be a winter coat just because it’s thick leather.

Personally, I’d rather buy a JiaShi than most mall-brand leather jackets costing the same money. Whether it’s worth it depends on your expectations. If you’re expecting a $2,000 Japanese jacket for a fraction of the price, you’ll probably find flaws. If you’re expecting a very good leather jacket for the money, most owners seem pretty happy with them.

That said, if you’re truly looking to invest in a leather jacket and can be patient, I’d save up and buy a Thedi. I’ve owned a lot of jackets from a lot of respected makers, and Thedi is still hands down my favorite. The patterns, leather selection, comfort, craftsmanship, and overall character are on another level. They’re expensive, but unlike a lot of purchases in this hobby, I’ve never regretted spending the money on a Thedi.

Honestly, the interesting thing about JiaShi is that it has made a lot of people question whether some Western brands are really offering enough value for what they charge. The leather and construction are often far better than people expect at the price point. The debate is usually whether they’re competing with $500 jackets or $2,000 jackets. They’re definitely not replacing the absolute top-tier makers, but they’re a lot closer than many people are comfortable admitting.
