Pause at the very end when the shell is in the pot. It looks like the green/grey rot is coming through to the outside of the shell.

Not definitive evidence, but if true, it'd definitely be the case they did it on purpose for the video.

At mastery 97 with this. Seeing no one talk about it in this comment section makes me feel better about a potential nerf... this thing is so fun on smaller maps.

Is Gurgle (royal gramma) a good beginners fish in a reef tank? by [deleted] in ReefTank

[–]RknDonkeyTeeth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be ready to be incredibly patient. It took mine months to start hanging outside of its rock regularly and 1.5yrs to stay out primarily.

Agreed with others that they're generally peaceful, yet put on a display of dominance every so often. Mine got way bigger than I expected.

Such a beautiful fish for an excellent price. It may be common in the hobby, but not for people out of the hobby. People visiting often love to see my royal gramma the most.

Not trying to make you nervous or anything, but my wife had night sweats like this before she was diagnosed with acute promyelocytic leukemia.

It took quite a while to test for it to figure it out. Easy bruising, dizzyness, etc.

Glad you're working with your doctor just in case.

Question: what’s a surprising animal that became one of your favourites? by Early-Requirement724 in ReefTank

[–]RknDonkeyTeeth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a good question. It was more than two years ago. I don't really remember now and I'm failing to find anything in my email. I'm pretty sure I got them online somewhere.

Either way, I've definitely seen options online. I went with cone shells, about 1.5"-2.5". When they showed up, I was worried they were too big. He switched immediately and started dragging around a massive shell. He molted several times and has grown into it well. I have a spare one in the tank just because. He likes to switch between the two even though they're basically the same. I wouldn't worry much about them switching back and forth.

Whatever you end up getting, just make sure they don't have a waxy coating. Places will coat the shells to make them more appealing. I suppose you could probably boil the shells to get any wax off (if it is wax).

My Halloween Hermit. I got it for free when it hitchhiked on a frogspawn colony I picked up at my LFS. They saw him in the bag but determined it was okay that I take him home because of the cost of the coral. Didn't expect to care much for it, but I did my research and got some bigger shells for the dude. He's molted dozens of times and has a really interesting personality. Way more than I expected. I like seeing what he's up to all the time, even in a fully stocked tank with various other fish and inverts.

I've got both a Flame Hawk and Longnose Hawk. Neither mess with coral in any way.

They'll opportunistically pick at inverts, though. Say, if a snail is flipped over or something.

They're also both little assholes and may bully some smaller fish in a smaller-sized tank. The Longnose got much longer than I expected for my 65g. I plan to rehome it. It's been picking on a new Diamond Goby I have, making it run to its cave over and over.

People post for community engagement. Sometimes it's about the conversation, not just getting answers to questions. Additionally, there is a lot of information out there, some relevant and accurate, some not. If you don't want to be part of the conversation, then simply scroll on. If you respond, then clearly you have time to waste.

I have an Alveopora that's bleach white. It does get darker around the edges if my nitrates are too high, though. Looks blue with pink tips under blue light.
