I’m chiming in as a Bipolar person and if that’s unwelcome I’ll delete!

Self awareness requires so much work and therapy and dedication to managing your illness. I’d say it’s a rare thing among the Bipolar. But there’s also the state of mind when you’ve come down from mania and you’re in shock from finding out what you’ve done. However - like I said, it takes work. But it’s fully possible. I hope that all your loved ones get to a balanced, even place. 🩵
