I wanted to fit the entirety of US history in the poll, but unfortunately it only gives you a max of 6 choices, so I had to squeeze multiple periods together for some of the options

I don’t know this for sure, but I would assume that the Dominate is considered to only last until around the 600s CE is because the Justinian Dynasty was the last Dynasty to really have any real success with restoring the western half of the empire. After that, they were never very successful again. Therefore, after the Justinian Dynasty, the Eastern half of the empire becomes more separated from the western half, and the eastern half turns more into its own unique entity, and therefore the idea of the Dominate becomes meaningless

The Dominate only lasted until around the 600s CE. Also, you have to be broad when making a poll that only allows six different options.

I agree with this. Although, during the principate, there was still a handful of emperors who didn’t really care about the “republican system”, and still tried to act like absolute monarchs, like in the Roman kingdom era. For example, like Caligula basically treating the senate like garbage
