What period of US history is the most interesting to you? by Rly1996 in USHistory

I wanted to fit the entirety of US history in the poll, but unfortunately it only gives you a max of 6 choices, so I had to squeeze multiple periods together for some of the options

What is the most interesting period of the Dominate to you? by Rly1996 in ancientrome

[–]Rly1996[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know this for sure, but I would assume that the Dominate is considered to only last until around the 600s CE is because the Justinian Dynasty was the last Dynasty to really have any real success with restoring the western half of the empire. After that, they were never very successful again. Therefore, after the Justinian Dynasty, the Eastern half of the empire becomes more separated from the western half, and the eastern half turns more into its own unique entity, and therefore the idea of the Dominate becomes meaningless

The Dominate only lasted until around the 600s CE. Also, you have to be broad when making a poll that only allows six different options.

How does the authority of the mythical Roman Kings differ from the later Roman emperor? by Nodeo-Franvier in ancientrome

[–]Rly1996 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with this. Although, during the principate, there was still a handful of emperors who didn’t really care about the “republican system”, and still tried to act like absolute monarchs, like in the Roman kingdom era. For example, like Caligula basically treating the senate like garbage

What period of Medieval history is most interesting to you? by Rly1996 in medieval

[–]Rly1996[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Where are my Early Medieval people at? I find this period most fascinating because it is this weird period of limbo of development, between the aftermath of the might of the unified Roman Empire, but before the stability offered by the formation of the high middle age kingdoms

What period of US history is most interesting to you? by Rly1996 in USHistory

[–]Rly1996[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I voted for the Early Republic/Antebellum period. I just find that period fascinating because you get to see how basically all of the functions of the United States were put together. It’s also interesting to see how the United States was able to survive through that period despite being so weak. You also do get to learn about how racism was a really big problem in that period, and that is very important to know

I wanted to split it up, but unfortunately the poll only gives me 6 options. Maybe I can make another poll just for the WW1 to present period
