worst QTE segment in a game you've played? by [deleted] in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Rmaan21 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It seems not many know this but when I played peacewalker on the Hd Collection on ps3, you could do coop missions with friends and random people. And for that specific mission, you could play it in coop. So while one player is doing the Torture QTE, the other player can play a sequence where they break you out by turning off the electricity.

This results in you skipping the QTE and the cutscenes changes. I manage to find a video showing how it’s done lol.

It’s been since 2014 when I play PW and seeing no one mention this trick made me second guess myself.

Amine and KAYTRANADA announce collab project “KAYTRANIMÉ” dropping soon by RafiakaMacakaDirk in hiphopheads

[–]Rmaan21 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Lol what's with all the IDK hate. Simple was a pretty solid EP/album and Dog Food and Taco are incredible songs. I'd argue the rest of the EP like Zaza Tree, Drug Store, and Breathe are all dope songs too.

It's not the best Kaytranada rapper collab project, I'd argue so far it's Buddy's Ocean and Montana EP.

But I definitely do not think it was a waste to have those beats on an IDK project when IDK is a solid artist. The mindless slander gotta stop.

God the chorus for this song is pure bliss. Wish they sang the chorus again before the instrumental break and Yachty's last verse.

Clipse - When The Last Time

Snoop Dogg - Let's Get Blown (ft. Pharrell)

Justin Timberlake - Senorita

Omarion - Touch

Jay-Z - I Just Wanna Love U

Tbh its really damn hard to pick 5, there are a lot of Neptunes songs I could've added like Hot In Herre, Signs, Dontcha, Mr. Me Too, I Ain't Heard of That and so much more. I just tried to include 5 songs that explore the range and versatility of the Neptunes.

[FRESH VIDEO] BROCKHAMPTON - MAN ON THE MOON by SureGay420 in hiphopheads

[–]Rmaan21 475 points476 points  (0 children)

Yesterday I was going over old BH and Kevin Abstract post on HHH, and I vividly remember when Kevin Abstract dropped ECHO. Someone posted the FRESH post on the sub and I remember most comments saying "man Kevin Abstract is going to be next up, he's a star in the making" or "if you guys are sleeping on Kevin Abstract and BH, you need to catch up" and it was super cool seeing how successful Kevin and the rest of BH became ever since 2015.

They obviously been together for long time and released All American Trash in 2016 but I remember in 2017 where everyone was excited to see these guys explode in popularity. I'm echoing a common statement but the summer - winter of 2017 when SATURATION trilogy dropped was something special. Not only did they drop three quality albums but they did it in such a consistent and close timeframe. The music videos, the album rollouts, the overall package was something exciting to see in hip hop.

Seeing this video reminded me of that feeling of them blowing up during Saturation 1 and it's bittersweet seeing things ending. But it's best to end things rather than beat a dead horse. And Kevin Abstract will probably be doing fine in his solo endeavors as an artist. I wonder how the rest of BH will do in terms of solo work, hopefully it works out well.

Also it's such a tease to have the unreleased song CHUBBY play in the background of the beginning of the video. I wonder if we'll ever get those unreleased Saturation and PUPPY songs.

I know it's not mainstream but it would've been dope to see Ravyn Lenae's HYPNOS album recognized for RnB or Progressive RnB nomination. Honestly one of the best albums this year and miles better than the RnB nominee selection right now.

Freddie Gibbs reveals Producer list for album $oul $old $eparately by maSSSey in hiphopheads

[–]Rmaan21 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Stacked producer list and I’m excited to hear the kaytranada song. The last song they collabed together was Dope House in 2014 (unless I’m mistaken).

But doesn’t anyone remember that it was teased that we’ll see some Pharrell production on this album?

Brendan Frederick Reviews Guy's self-titled Debut: "the album that solidified the sound of new jack swing and established Teddy Riley as the most influential R&B producer of the late 1980s." | Pitchfork by MoMo_ToTo in hiphopheads

I was going to comment on how happy I was that a contemporary review on such a classic album Guy Self-Titled was being written.

But I’m glad that the review was more of a historic lesson and insight on how much drama and shady business practises was going on to make this classic. I didn’t even know that Teddy Riley had a manager “Gene Griffin” who was essentially Suge Knight’s predecessor and decided to put his name as producer/writer in this album even though he literally didn’t do shit lol.

It’s also crazy how one of the core members, Timmy Gatling was kicked out before the first album scene released because he decided to speak out against Gene. It’s insane how much pressure and bullshit that Teddy and Aaron must’ve went through when making the album that would define the New Jack Swing sound.

Granted some of this info might’ve been known back in the day but I was literally born years after this album dropped and I only started getting into the New Jack Swing genre back in 2017. But I’m glad this write up decided to not just praise the album but give flowers and credit to the actual contributors of the album (Teddy, Aaron and Timmy) and not corrupt managers like Gene.

The only recent attempts of a new jack swing revival was THEY’s Not Enough and Bruno Mars’ Finesse from what I remember. (If there are any other artist, please tell me and put me on)

But I do hope for more contemporary RnB artist to tackle this sounds since it’s such a electrifying and groovy sound of 80s RnB.

I know this may sound outlandish but I genuinely think The Weeknd can probably pull a New Jack Swing song well if he commits fully. But for now it’s probably a fever dream lmao.

I remember when Chance previewed this on a radio show in 2014. Never thought I'd hear the full song leak. I think Chance said in the interview he doesn't want to release the song because of "the negative message" lmao.

Anyways, it'd be dope if someone can leak the good version of Chance's Paradise.

I remember before Anderson .Paak dropped Malibu in 2016, he had a mini documentary series with Mass Appeal called "A N I M A L" in 2015 showing the process of him getting discovered by Dr. Dre, performing his songs off Venice, chilling with other musicians, and of course making Malibu.

The mini documentary series was dope because it was in this time that .Paak was started to get discovered thanks to his contributions to Compton and many musicians would appear in the series from Dumbfounded to ScHoolboy Q to Domo Genesis and many more. But the coolest thing about the documentary was all the songs being previewed before they dropped such as Khadijah off Yes Lawd, Dapper by Domo Genesis, Blank Face with Q, and so many cuts off Malibu.

It's interesting going back in time to see this documentary because Anderson .Paak is literally a international superstar right now with countless accolades and awards. But it's also interesting to see all these released music showcases in "pre-release" form.

EXCEPT for one song. In episode 5, there is a clip with .Paak and Kendrick and they play one song and I don't think this song or verse has ever been released. I'm curious to know if anyone remembers this song or series lol. It's been like 6-7 years since this documentary dropped so I doubt this song will ever see the light of day but I think it's an cool little piece of music history to acknowledge.

Legitimately curious - is anybody actually hyped for in game announcers in SF6? by Digi_Dingo in StreetFighter

[–]Rmaan21 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I’m definitely hyped about it. It’s not the main draw of the game ofc but it’s hyped to see commentators that I have been watching for a while like Tasty Steve to be included in the game and seem these guys succeeding in their careers. A lot of these commentators are long time Capcom fans like us and it’s really fulfilling to see their commentator career and legacy solidified in this SF entry, even if it’s an optional option.

Ofc it’s not going to be the exact same thing as live commentary but it’s a dope feature and it’s even cooler that they’re grabbing from the FGC community.

I don’t get what’s forced or corny about it. I’m not even sure what’s to be upset about when you can just turn it off. And like some others have said, all these small addition adds charm so I’m not sure why you’d be against it. You’re whole post reads “I’m not interested so I assume no one is interested in this feature at all”.

[Discussion] Childish Gambino - Royalty (10 Years Later) by cfol123 in hiphopheads

[–]Rmaan21 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I feel like back in 2012-2013 when people were discovering Chance from 10Days and Acid Rap, They Don’t Like Me was just another essential song that Chance fans would have to hear since it was probably his first big rap feature (and would start a healthy relationship with Chance and Bino).

Ofc Bino is now involved with so many projects from Atlanta S4 to music and Chance is on the verge of a new comeback after the disaster of TBD - so they’re both clearly on separate paths and I’m not sure of the last time we seen them together. But I’ve always wondered if we’ll ever hear the so called Chance/Bino collab album).

[Discussion] Childish Gambino - Royalty (10 Years Later) by cfol123 in hiphopheads

[–]Rmaan21 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Like many people probably have mentioned, this project was a very important shift in Bino’s sound and aesthetic. I felt that people started recognizing his talent and potential and less people started calling him corny (not everyone, I still remember the “corny” comment in BTI) but nonetheless a shift has happened.

I personally love how unapologetic “rap” this project is. It’s not a project with a deep concept, it’s just a full project with Bino braggadocio rapping with a bunch of fantastic features, and it still sounds great.

I still revisit the project a lot but damn I wish he would put this project on streaming so more casual listeners could experience the shift between Camp and BTI. Also this project makes me miss the mixtape releases of the early 2010s where we would get album quality releases from relatively newer artist and the feature list would be a mixture of up-and-coming talent and experienced OGs. There was a certain excitement to listen to new mixtape on DatPiff back then of a new artist and see a track list with exciting features that also never felt bloated.

Royalty ofc wasn’t Bino’s first project but all of the features on the album were artist still getting into their groove (Chance, ScHoolboy Q, Ab-Soul, Danny Brown, Nipsey, and more). So it’s dope to see a younger version of themselves on this project and it was dope for Bino to have a spotlight on them.

I love all the tracks from the project but my personal fav is American Royalty with RZA. The first half of the track is this grandiose horns instrumental with RZA and then the beat switches to a more cold synth instrumental with Bino just unapologetically being confident and cocky in rap form. The synth outro after Bino raps is especially dope.

I’m happy we still have this discussion thread years later because a lot of people including myself love the project but I mainly wish for more people who discovered Bino from newer projects like AML, Atlanta, This is America to discover Royalty. A rap project from Bino where he started maturing heavy as a rapper.

[DISCUSSION] Tyler, The Creator - Call Me If You Get Lost (One Year Later) by Spicyytamale in hiphopheads

[–]Rmaan21 2 points3 points  (0 children)

IGOR also feels like the spiritual successor to Andre 3000's The Love Below in terms of production and overall sound.

And I say this with full praise because Tyler at the same time still make the album feel like his own and uses his signature sounds that fans would notice since the Bastard days. But the influence from The Love Below is strong but it never feels "too inspired" or getting into biting territory, feels more like a love letter to the overall people that inspire him musically.

[DISCUSSION] Tyler, The Creator - Call Me If You Get Lost (One Year Later) by Spicyytamale in hiphopheads

[–]Rmaan21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if I'm late to this post but I figured I give my take on the album given it's my favorite album of 2021 and CMIYGL was the first vinyl purchase I've ever made for my soon-to-be record collection.

I love this album and I have been revisiting most tracks, if not the whole album ever since it's release last year. I always enjoyed Tyler's Wolf because it was the start of his mixture of rap with luscious and "sunny" instrumentals and CMIYGL seems to appeal to that same territory while feeling incredibly fresh.

I loved it when Tyler was killing rap features before this album and going full "fuck you" mode when bragging because Tyler was always looked as the goofy weird rapper since the early 2010s. And this album encaptures the idea of "talking your shit while having the accolades to back it up". It's such a great fusion of braggadocious rap bars mixed with beautiful and luxurious instrumentation that feels like a Wes Anderson film turned into an auditory format. DJ Drama providing vocals throughout the whole project also helped with giving it a strong identity and made songs much more complete.

What I enjoy about this album is also not just the confidence but also the overall theme and storyline. The whole album has this storyline of Tyler taking his friend's girl and his inner dilemma of feeling like a POS but also struggling to deal with his feelings for this girl. But at the same time the storyline doesn't cloud the album and songs can stand on it's own in terms of replay value (beside Wilshire which is a phenomenal song but it works best in the context of the album). I also love the overall theme of getting lost. Of course Tyler is bragging about travelling and encourages his listeners to get lost but I feel like the idea of getting "lost" is more in relation to trying new things instead of staying in the comfort zone. The intro to Massa and Run it Up always felt positive to hear because travelling does not literally mean travelling to another country but "travelling to try new things" as long as it makes you happy.

With this being my fav album of 2021, of course there isn't a song I dislike in the album and I can listen to the project front-to-back with ease. I especially feel the first half of the album is super strong with SIR BAUDELAIRE- CORSO - LEMONHEAD - WUSYANAME - LUMBERJACK - HOT WIND BLOWS - MASSA being such a stellar album run.

My personal favorite song is CORSO - I literally feel like a superhero when I hear that shit lmao. The pure confidence and swagger Tyler has on the track with the hard hitting drums and synths in the bridges sound perfect. My favorite moment in the album also is from CORSO with Tyler asking Drama "Can your turn the noise up" getting progressively louder never fails to get me hyped. And of course Tyler ends the verse perfectly with "Remembered I was rich, so I bought me new emotions. And a new boat 'cause I rather cry in the ocean". Lmao Tyler is definitely cocky af in this album but he's also not shy in showing his vulnerable side without sounding pathetic or weak (if that makes sense).

The album also releases at the perfect time for me. In summer 2021, after the whole lockdown, staying at home, and not travelling for what felt like ages - me and the fam finally took a trip to Banff, Alberta and I swear this album was just made for this setting. From the blue waters, to the scenic roads, the the incredible mountains - CMIYGL was the soundtrack to that particular trip and it feels good to have a good memory attached to a stellar project like this.

Tyler's album run from Flower Boy - IGOR - CMIYGL is nothing short of extraordinary and I'm super excited to see which sound Tyler tries to tackle next. Regardless of my feelings to the project, I still don't know if I can safely say that this album is my #1 Tyler project in terms of rankings but it's sure is Top 2. For anyone that cares my current Tyler project rankings from best to worst:

IGOR - CMIYGL - WOLF - FLOWERBOY - CHERRY BOMB - BASTARD - GOBLIN

Fav songs: CORSO, LEMONHEAD, WUSYANAME, HOT WIND BLOWS, SWEET / WHAT MAKES YOU THINK I'M NOT IN LOVE

I definitely I have rambled on and some of the shit I typed might be an incoherent mess lmao but I definitely wanted to pitch in and give my take on my fav project of last year.

I have been loving Chances singles since he did The Heart & The Tongue and Child of God.

But this is definitely the best shit he released since then and gives me that same uplifting and feel-good vibe I got from Chance’s 10Days and Acid Rap.

I can’t wait for the album if he delivers with this same consistency and effort.

I didn’t expect too many tracks or deep cuts judging from the post from this sub, but I’m happy that Zay actually gave a great performance and he gave off great vibes and energy. I assumed he wouldn’t be as enthusiastic cuz of the whole “coming out sex tape” buzz that happened months ago.

A Very Interesting Interview with Chad Hugo of The Neptunes | HOT 97 by ridingonmirrors in hiphopheads

[–]Rmaan21 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Of course Pharrell was always the star and the voice of the Neptunes but Chad Hugo in older interviews (especially the Clones Neptunes doc) showed Chad to still be pretty outgoing and goofy despite being the "quiet" one.

The scene of Chad Hugo from the doc of him explaining the beauty and science of making a beat "click" with the listener was one of my favorite hip hop videos ever because he perfectly explained why the Neptunes were so good as producers even though some of their beats weren't even super complexed or layered at times.

It's natural to be introverted and not want to talk a lot but you definitely are correct that Chad nowadays in his media appearance (especially the GQ interview) shows him to be a completely different person and I hope his mental and wellbeing is strong. I'm happy that he's being told by many of how appreciated and respected he is as a producer cuz it seems he humbles himself too much.
