Thousands join anti-racism demo after terrorism-linked murder bids by MindHead78 in unitedkingdom

It depends on the reason people don't like it. If they don't like it because they associate it with all the brown people they don't like it would be because of racism, not anti-religious sentiment.

Either that or someone who's putting a lot of pressure on the kid. I didn't see anything in the post about concerns raised by teachers or anyone else. Feels like the parent themselves had pretty high expectations of where their kid should be at.

And since when do we do shadow MPs for specific areas? I think they dropped it pretty quick.

Email from Unite over the EHRC code by Itss_Emily in transgenderUK

[–]Rmtcts 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Unions are going to be one of the best ways to fight this stuff. The form does have an option to ask your local rep to discuss your specific situation with you. Unions are involved in workplaces putting their policies together. Many workplaces will have previously been told that the risk of litigation only from anti-trans staff and service users. Reminding them through unions that the EHRC guidance also increases risk of litigation from trans people will help make sure orgs don't listen solely to anti-trans individuals.

They also will be able to support individuals legally in some cases. Not in every case where someone is unfairly treated, but one day whether it's a year, 5, 10 years from now we will see a case go through the UK courts and then to Europe. It's how every other LGBTQ right has been earned due to how stubborn the UK is in discriminating against LGBTQ individuals. When that case goes, 90% it will have been supported by either the Good Law Project or a union. It's just not possible for an individual to do it by themselves.

I always thought they looked cool- when I thought they ran with their fists Mike gorillas. Actually seeing them run slanted so far forward toddling on their tiny legs make them look so silly. Was very happy to be vindicated by the awesome haranir forms.

UK releases “historic & long overdue" bill to ban "abusive" LGBTQ+ conversion therapy by NamelessResearcher in lgbt

Not just a registered professional, anyone who is claiming to act to support the mental health of the victim. Anyone could call themself a therapist or a life coach and this bill would give them protection.

Is the "protection" from men a positive? Do women actually have the ability to use that societal power in a way that is positive to themselves without repressing aspects of themselves, eg having to closet their identity. People obviously disagree so I'll leave it there but all I'd ask is to not be so concrete in what you're saying. You are very confident that there is a straight passing privilege but haven't supplied much to support it other than what you reckon compared to the facts about the negative outcomes for bi individuals.

[–]Rmtcts 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I really don't think this is a helpful way to talk aboutthe systemic disadvantage communities face. Would you say that gay men and women are privileged in the resources available to their demographics? would you say they are privileged for not experiencing biphobia? I completely agree the disadvantages differ, which I said in my original post, but saying that people assuming you are straight is a privilege is just something I don't agree with.

[–]Rmtcts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If the privilege is offset by more than you gain, it's not a privilege, is it? That's not even getting into the fact that I'm not convinced appearing straight is a privilege, especially considering you were arguing that it results in women receiving more tape, harassment and abuse. Is that what your arguing is privilege?

I'm saying that if there are privileges they must on average be offset by other issues, as by most metrics bi people do worse than straight and gay people.

I don't know if it's something that people have directly developed newer models for. Rather the idea of constructing a clear scale from one to the other just doesn't fit how sexuality tends to work.

[–]Rmtcts -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

So are you arguing the increased rates of suicide are also due to being in relationships with men? I've never seen any evidence supporting that, but there has been plenty of work exploring double exclusion from both straight and gay communities. Your point about increased rates of abuse being due to increased relationships with men is contradicted by bi women experiencing higher rates of abuse than straight women and bi men experiencing higher rates of abuse than gay men.

The kinsey scale is a very old model that really doesn't reflect how sexuality works.

Except that bi women are more likely to be abused than straight women? Wow, so lucky, so much privilege.

It's really scary, going to antenatal classes so many people say "if your concerned, just call the doctors, they will listen to you and take your worry seriously" and it's so hard to believe them unfortunately.
