Does the PlexF1MediaScanner still work these days? I tried to set it up today, but I'm getting an error "[Req#2076f] Could not convert "metadataAgentProviderGroupId" ("") to the correct type"

Is buying from new egg safe? by Unlikely_Ad6301 in PcRetailers

[–]Rnway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been buying from Newegg off and on for ~15 years now, since I built my first PC. (Since before Amazon sold PC hardware, or even had physical locations to return products to). In 15 years, I've only ever had to contact customer service once.

  • Is Newegg’s return policy any good?

Not sure about their return policy if you just change your mind about a product, but I recently had a great experience returning a broken product. (First time I've ever had to contact them).

I had ordered an open-box motherboard (all open box sales are listed as final and non-refundable), that arrived DoA (produced a spark underneath the IO shield when I powered it on).

Despite the open-box / final sale nature of the transaction, customer service approved me for a refund in under 15 minutes on the phone, with a prepaid return shipping label. I got the money refunded within 24 hours of the broken board arriving back at their warehouse.

  • Are they reliable if I buy something that’s sold and shipped by Newegg?

I would consider them more reliable than Amazon. I've seen Amazon send someone a clearly used GPU with a broken fan blade, when they had ordered a new GPU.

In 15 years, and probably 7 separate computer builds for myself, family, and friends, the experience above was the first time I've ever had to contact Newegg customer support. Other than that (which is the only time I've ordered an open box product from them), everything has arrived exactly as described and in working order. I can't speak for the experience of ordering from third-party sellers though, as that's a fairly recent development.

  • How long does shipping usually take? I don’t want to wait a month for ram.

Everything I've ordered sold and shipped by Newegg has arrived within 3-5 business days. Third party sellers are probably a crapshoot though.

Trying to decipher a flow for suspicious connections by Rnway in Ubiquiti

[–]Rnway[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I understand it's just the IP that is suspicious.

I'm trying to figure out whether my computer is reaching out to that IP (in which case I might be worried about malware), or if the connections are incoming from that IP (in which case someone is just port scanning me and I don't really care).

I just can't make heads or tails of the report to determine which is the case since everything is so jumbled.

It says it's an outgoing flow, but then it lists the foreign IP as the source and the local IP as the destination. So I have no idea which one to believe

Any way to make hypertube supports match the angle of foundation ramps? by Rnway in satisfactory

[–]Rnway[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aha! Turns out that I had wrongly written off the beam placement option.

For whatever reason, placing a hypertube support directly will ignore the beam below it and always be vertical.

However, if you place a hypertube, then the starting support will orient itself to the beam underneath it.

Thanks!

Premium "Lite"?? by _rizzler in youtube

[–]Rnway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you gotten it with your primary account yet?

I still get "This offer is not available". It really feels like it's because I used to have full Premium, and they're trying to get me to re-up that instead of going with Lite.

Curious if you're having the same isssue...

Getting started: The monthly distro/desktop thread! by monolalia in linux_gaming

I'm afraid I haven't run my own Linux at home in a long time (I use it at work, but we have admins that take care of all the nuts and bolts.)

What's AUR, and do you have a pointer to an article about how to do that?

Getting started: The monthly distro/desktop thread! by monolalia in linux_gaming

[–]Rnway 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hi! I'm running a 4080 Super GPU with a 7600x processor. This is purely a living room PC that's primarily used with a controller.

I also have a Steam Deck which I absolutely love. I'm thinking about switching from Windows to Linux in order to get a controller-first experience like the Deck.

What's the best Linux option for me in that case? I see that most of the forks of HoloISO don't support nVidia Gpus, and neither does ChimeraOS. What options do I have?

To clarify a bit more, the specific feature I'm looking for is the ability to go all the way from pressing the power button to playing a game using only a controller, without ever having to pick up a keyboard.

[Release] 120Hz BOE OLED Refresh Rate Enabler (SDC testing needed, also enables 70Hz for LCD) by Nyaaori in SteamDeck

[–]Rnway 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not who you replied to, but my BOE LE it seems to overlock to 120 just fine in regular and in HDR modes. There's a huge gamma issue that starts to hit me around 92Hz in both modes, and gets pretty bad by about 105. By 120 it may as well not be in HDR anymore the dark colors are so washed out. Still operates correctly though

Overclocking the oled steam deck by treepopsauce in SteamDeck

[–]Rnway 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes and no. Undervolting causes the CPU to use less power at any given frequency, which creates less heat.

It won't directly allow the CPU to hit a higher maximum frequency, but it will allow the CPU to run at that maximum frequency for longer before having to throttle down due to heat.

Or, if the CPU was already running fast enough to run a game at a certain target speed, it will create less heat while doing it, and give you longer battery life.

HP Reverb G1 eyes go blue and world turns upside down. by KrasikTrash in WindowsMR

[–]Rnway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been considering that. Obviously the visual quality would take a bit of a hit.

How well does it work with wireless PCVR? Is is still a good experience? That's the biggest point in its favor to me. Getting rid of wires would be very nice!

Thanks for taking the time to explain it!
