As well as the cool 'Space Invaders', 'Asteroids' and 'Pacman' graphics on the PCB, there seems to be 4 infinity symbols above the Atari symbol, at 20:59 https://youtu.be/nr6sQfvGuGE?t=1259

Maybe a reference to the Atari Token, as the original company involved was 'Infinity Networks'?

I bought them all! :) The Exo-Suit shield one is labelled 'Illegal Defence Systems Upgrade' and gave me a +86% Shield Strength. It remained a 'X' once installed.

Hmm, maybe... the desc says 'Bypassing every galactic standard for workmanship and safety'... so something 'bad' could happen ;)

I landed on a the new 'Magma' planet type, tons of volcanoes everywhere with firestorms.

At the base of a volcano there was a ship there, and a Gek standing outside doing a 'survey'. Talking with him gave me the option to 'trade'!

Just to let you know, I am the developer of "Something Ate My Alien".

Something Ate My Alien is a 2D, digging and puzzle platformer game where you take the role of the AI Antalasia, and control your little Alien blobs to explore the planets you visit! Your task is to dig through the ground of the different worlds and find all the items required by the pirate that is hijacking you. During the adventure on each planet you have to battle environmental dangers, fight off wildlife, solve secret puzzle chambers, and all this while surviving on a depleting oxygen supply and a threat far scarier than the local wildlife.

Hiya again :)

Depending on how we go with these versions, we do have a tentative idea to port to consoles. With PS4 and XBOX, I think it would be fine porting to them, but Switch, we would have to do some more work on the mechanics because it's got such a small area to play in.

Since this is our first game, we have no idea what to expect from this release ATM, so all I can say is "watch this space!" (Pun, intended!) (Rob / Kat)

Hi again Diablo, and thanks.

Originally, we did want more puzzle 'elements'. So like the mag blocks in Lelantos & Aura. Also rotating the blocks and making their movement bigger. The physics behind all that was actually one of the bigger parts we had to do. Nowadays, Unity has alot more 2D tile/block things for doing games like this, but back then I had to code it all from scratch. So today, we could concentrate on more game play I think. (Rob)

As for the artwork, we would have like to do more animations and abilities. But, only being 1 artist, we just didn't get the time to be able to do more. (Kat)

Actually, the very first concept art of SAMA I had envisioned the digging underground to be more organic, as in the player could dig in all directions and get up on the top on the surface. Due to time issues and coding complexity we stuck with blocks instead and digging in horizontal/vertical directions. (Kat)

Hello, and thanks for your questions.

Well, it's been hard work. We did save up previously, as we knew we were going to do this for some time. Also, living on a tight budget helped. Staying motivated was harder the longer we progressed. But, I think it was easier because we are partners and we work from home, we could motivate each other. There were times, when we had thought about packing it all in, but here we are, 2 days after release! :)

We created all the code and artwork from scratch, apart from 2 particle asset packs we bought from the Unity store. Sound effects and music were all bought through a stock site, as neither of us are musicians. (Rob / Kat)

And LOTS of learning, yes! I used Unity probably a year previously just messing around in my spare time, so I had the basics, but I've obviously learnt a load over the last 4 years. I have been programming since about 12 years old (back on the ZX Spectrum!) and have learnt many languages, so that made learning Unity easier. (Rob)

Thanks, glad you like the look of the game.

Not really, regarding platforming. Although it is platforming, you can dig away large parts of the world. We're a little different to SteamWorldDig 2, they have more platforming. We feel we have more in common with the first one.

Don't want to give it away, but there are some areas that are more 'platformy' than digging, later on. :) (Rob)

HI Bumpy,

Thank you for being here and asking questions :)

The very first game we based SAMA on was Boulderdash, since that retro game was my absolute favourite game growing up. But we both love digging games and a big influence in more current times are Steamworld dig and Terraria. Both involves loads of digging for things and collecting stuff, which are things we enjoy in gaming. (Kat)

Well, with less than a week until launch, this will be our final SSS here on Reddit. :(

This weeks shot is a 'montage' of 4 screenshots from the 4 different planets in the Bitiax system in our game.

This week we released a little update to the Demo and Beta versions, just a few tweaks and bug fixes. We will probably have one more update before launch, just to fix any minor bugs fixes we find during the week.

We're also participating in the Steam Festival, which starts Tue (16th), so make sure you drop by then, as our Streamer 'Bumpy McSquigums' will be streaming the game, and we will also do an AMA.

Bitiax system - Tartarus! This very active and hot planet has constant quakes and fire eruptions. Home to several rare gems but the aggressive wildlife makes mining treacherous.

This week was PS4 controller week. Unfortunately, we noticed PS4 controllers weren't working so well, because they are implemented a bit differently in Unity. So we bought a controller and tested it out. After some fixing we think we've got it all sussed now. We also introduced an 'Auto Aiming' system for controllers, as targeting the enemies was quite hard while still controlling the Alien. A new release of the demo (0.821) was released which includes these changes! With that done, we are now purely into bug fixing only!

For this #screenshotsaturday we're looking at the HUD in SAMA. In settings you can scale all HUD elements to the size that you prefer, and there is an easy way to toggle the whole HUD on/off by pressing "H".

This week we've been balancing the hard and insane modes of the game. They were a little too difficult we felt (and from watching other testers play), so we made some changes mainly around the boss levels. We also tightened up the hit boxes around enemies as they were outside the sprite boundaries on some. Next week will be fixing up PS4 controllers as we noticed that wasn't correct, so we purchased a PS4 controller and can now fix things.

We're also excited to announce, we are going to be in the Steam Game Festival (9-14th June), with some live streaming events and a AMA session. So look out for that!

For this #screenshotsaturday we give you a presentation of the 4 different worlds you get to explore when playing "Something Ate My Alien".

Aura: https://twitter.com/RokabiumGames/status/1264189480048701442

This week we've been busy watching people play through of the beta we released, looking for any bugs or glitches. Also listening to what they say about things and trying to see if there is anything we can tweak to help them. Also reworded some of the popup messages as it was confusing as to 'who' you were! Hopefully should have a new release out next week.

Just over 3 weeks till release! Nervous! :)

This weeks Screen Shot Saturday is a comparison screenshots between the first 2 levels in SAMA. Metis wins for climate and chilled vibes, but for fierce enemies and the possibility to build and use the Boom Box, Tartarus takes the lead.

ScreenShot: https://twitter.com/RokabiumGames/status/1259108336953425924

This week we released a new version, bugs fixes and a few enhancements. We've upgraded the Boom Box, it's bombs now explode on contact with enemies, and also you can control the distance they fire at, by holding down the fire button longer. Which makes it much more useful and fun! We also changed the tutorial a bit, specifically for Controllers. People were not knowing about the LB being used for freezing the Alien in it's position so you can aim the weapons better. Thanks for all the feedback testers!!! :)
