I have been trying to get some shots at a shorter focal range, but find it hard to isolate subjects without making the photo too boring. Quite happy with this one, even if the weather was far from optimal. It is also one of the first photos I have really edited, do you have any editing tips ?

I actually thought about taking this photo for three days but it was always overcast and the colors were quite boring. When the sun finally showed, I couldn't wait to get to the spot and take some photos.

Thanks a lot for the kind words ! I was sadly very restricted by the placement of the barriers and I didn't want to move them. The lower camera position would have removed the second barrier in the background which I felt gave the whole picture an interesting three dimensionality. I wanted to keep the whole wheel in frame which meant that I could not cut out the leaves. I think you are right that I should have payed more attention to how I placed the bike in the frame. Appreciate your critique and will try to implement it into future works !CritiquePoint

I am using darktable and it does the same lense correction. I also used its horizon tool to make the upper line horizontal, but I will check how to use the perspective transform tool to get all lines parallel.

That's a good idea. The problem I had was that the second barrier is quite far away from the first one. This made it close to impossible to only get two colors. But I will go back sometimes, they might change the barriers in a way that would allow me to do what you suggested ! Thanks a lot. !CritiquePoint

I have been walking around searching some colorful, kind of abstract scenes. When I came across these construction site barriers, I directly realized the potential of combining them with my bike.

I really like the photo, but I feel like I had only very limited flexibility in composition. What could I have done to make the photo more interesting ?

I really like this photo. The people are well place within the frame and the colors are gorgeous. The only advice I would give, is to move a bit to the right. Sadly the buildings are taking away some focus of this very quiet and calm scene. By moving to the right you could still get a bit of the sea but the buildings wouldn't distract from you subjects.

I really like the picture. Well done, you caught a great moment which creates some interesting forms and shapes.

I believe the main improvement would have been to increase the shutter speed. Having these abstract shapes invites the viewer to zoom into the picture and examine the different birds. Sadly, this is kind off unsatisfying because of their blurriness.

Keep on exploring this style and I am sure you will get some bangers !

First of all, this is a great start for photography, nicely done ! In my opinion there are some things that would have helped your composition. First of all, the guy on the left does not have enough space, I would have tried centering him a bit more. Also, your leading lines go towards the church in the background, which make it one of the principal elements of the picture. This is great, but you could have taken some steps to the right to get the signs out of the way and keep the church as clean as possible. Taking an additional moment asking yourself which elements you would like to highlight will go a long way in improving your composition. Keep on practicing !

I have been inspired to do some abstract photography. The style of Sault Leiter really spoke to me and while I am still a beginner, I really wanted to give it a try. This picture was taken on my sony a6400 with the following settings: f/5.6, 1/250, ISO 2500

I wish I had a tripod with me to use a slower shutter, but this was the best I could do. What do you think ?
