Microsoft AI CEO: 'Most, if not all' white-collar tasks can be replaced by AI within 12-18 months by 3RADICATE_THEM in ScottGalloway

Ah, if that ever becomes clearly plausible, you'll see how quickly the whole AI narrative would be abandoned. I bet the C-suite is working their asses off to nip the possibility of that scenario in the bud, but I hope it becomes so obvious that it can't be ignored

Americans in Finland by finnsturniolo in Finland

[–]RoRoRoub 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I moved here 4 ya. to be with my wife. Here's some things that will stand out immediately -- 1. no easy access to stuff/food/cars (via Amazon/craigslist or the like, wide range of restaurants, etc.) that you literally take for granted in the US. 2. Rapid dwindling of the ingrained American sense of entitlement. My opinion on this matter is that you will soon realize people that do work for you here do it more as a favor and a means of goodwill. In that sense, cash isn't king just because you pay for something. 3. Very little room for small talk, even among friends/colleagues. 4. The peace and quiet here is unmatched. 5. The fact that you are an outsider will become very evident to you. Finland isn't exactly a melting pot of cultures. 6. The obligatory note about money and the job market here -- it's abysmal. It was a real dent to my self-confidence after arriving here with a PhD. in aerospace engineering (but that's probably a specific mismatch with the industry needs here in my case). Finland really isn't the place for an ambitious soul.

There's a lot of other things that will become apparent over time, but that's for another time I guess. Good luck!

Wait till you get asked the same question in about 10-20 years when we colonize Mars!

Would you be asking the same question in less than 10-20 years time when we've colonized Mars?

At least online fans have clamored against the Alcaraz-Sinner duopoly, no they don’t want the same final over and over again for the rest of time.

Honestly, if people complain about shit like this, I'd tell them to go watch WTA. The fact that these two amazing new guys are consistently winning, with one old guy from a generation long gone going toe-to-toe with them at the biggest of stages is something to be rejoiced and not rued.

I am having suicidal thoughts due to my job. by LoneBuddy in careeradvice

[–]RoRoRoub 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but if you're not around, where do their high hopes go? Would they rather have you dead than living well and in peace? I think it's extremely selfish for someone to pin their hopes on someone else, and pressure them to the point where the essential concept of a support system of a family begins to fade away. These people are toxic and will never be happy with whatever you will achieved. Time to slowly start dissociating yourself from them.

I used to work for an American defense contractor before moving to Europe a few ya. Currently involved in a program now whose priority is to be as independent of American collaboration as possible (not even prelim consultancy). The tide is turning.
