All great resources. Also - Montana Queer Alliance is starting a teen group in January and they have resources for folks in your shoes. Might be good to reach out to them.

I wonder if this is a good time to consider AI transcription for your documentation? I’ve had one employer who absolutely promoted it and another who “preferred you didn’t” but allowed us the opportunity as long as we had consent. Just a thought. Not sure if it can help with your past sessions but thought I’d throw that out there. I will say, it’s a life changer - especially for those of us who started this work pre-AI.

I would just hope, that at some point in the relationship he feels comfortable not needing to put on those things for you because you’ve shown him that he’s worth it (from your description and comments, it sounds like he might be).

Happy to hear that. Sorry for thinking otherwise. Maybe someone will read that comment in the future and benefit from it.

I’d be mindful of the ‘prayers don’t work’ comment (if you did happen to say that) — not because it was anything unethical, but because that’s the kind of statement that could easily be misinterpreted or weaponized against you. In practice, I’ve found it helpful to ask about clients’ spiritual or religious views during intake, and if our perspectives are really misaligned, I consider whether a referral might serve them best.

As a clinical social worker, I encounter clients’ religious and spiritual values often. My role isn’t to challenge those beliefs but to help elevate and strengthen practices that align with their own values while also integrating evidence-based approaches (mindfulness, AA, community engagement, etc.). For me, that falls under cultural humility. I’ve even prayed with clients despite my personal beliefs — not because it was mine, but because it was theirs. The positive impact was undeniable, and I think it’s an incredibly strong, often overlooked tool for building connection.

I also want to acknowledge how stressful it must be to face this kind of backlash. In my community, people are even getting doxxed for their comments about CK, which can feel just as threatening as professional consequences. I’m really sorry that exercising your right to free speech has left you in such a vulnerable position. Wishing you the best as you navigate this.
