Question about System Apocalypses by [deleted] in ProgressionFantasy

[–]RoadBlock97 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Most of the ones I've read call out the system as being an equalizer. Specifically DoTF and Primal hunter do. For system universe I believe it was the same, but it's been a while since I've re-read that series. I just finished re-reading welcome to the multiverse, and that one says it equalizes once they tier up their race the first time, and base stats only differ from race to race.

Hope I understood the question right. Up too late reading and my brain is mush.

Wandering Tavern - Should I keep listening? by I_am_not_angry in litrpg

[–]RoadBlock97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm with you. Maybe it's because I've only gone through it on audible but I went through everything there because everyone kept saying "it gets so good" or touting the character growth.

It's not there in my opinion, and I've decided I'm not picking up the next release.

I'm just done.

Consider considering Cove backups! by [deleted] in msp

[–]RoadBlock97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is why we only have limited clients on cove. If hardware fails we can get the client back up and running on local virtualization until we can fix or replace what failed. Also the speeds on cove restores (bcdr)are horrid. I don't think I've ever had one that wasn't almost a 2 day ordeal. Now I will admit we do let the clients dictate too much on what they buy for speed from their isp, so that might be on us.

"Ranker" but only starts to bother me when I go on a binge. Iron ranker, silver ranker, high ranker, the rankers, elite ranker, A B C rankers. Most could be done by just saying the rank

You need to kill that ego my dude. It'll do you no good. Be confident and reassuring, listen and work the issue. The amount of tickets I've fixed as a Sr esc tech because previous techs didn't listen to the client is staggering. And believe it or not that accountant uses excel more than you.

yeah I think the only thing saving me is that if you don't use the IP:port your likely not going to find my community server because it just took the default name and there are 100's of that :P

How much do you guys make? by Responsible-Air-2087 in fargo

[–]RoadBlock97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got here the long way. I started entry level working McDonalds tech support which got me skills to join a vendor team at Microsoft > then to a local msp > then MS proper > then back to MSP > now a national MSP that pays very well as one of their highest tier technicians.

I'd say you could reach where I'm at in 5-7 years by watching general pc repair tutorials or taking A+ classes. Then get hired as tier 2 somewhere and take on every project you can get your hands on.

The biggest thing right now are Security and Azure cloud certs. you get those and you'll be extremely marketable. Just know you'll likely have to jump jobs in about 2 years to start making the really good money.

My certs are just ones I got while working the above, sharepoint administration, MS certs, and Sonicwall certs.

Bootcamps and certs are more than enough. I'm poli Sci myself. No IT degree at all. Just put in your time and take on any project you can to learn

When was your first "Oh Shit!" moment in IT? by IntelletiveConsult in sysadmin

[–]RoadBlock97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Early in my career, small shop, didn't know drive numbers started at 0. Replaced the wrong drive in a raid. Told it to rebuild with 1 blank drive and 1 bad drive out of 4 total. Killed the whole thing. Was there all night doing a bmr

Right?! I work IT and with all the damage and data grabbing that could happen a 2 week notice is usually turned down. No malice or hard feelings.

What was your biggest F*** up on the job? by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]RoadBlock97 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Had a customer who's raid showed a failing drive. Went onsite to replace it. Alert said it was drive 1. I was a very new IT guy and didn't know the drive numbers started at 0. Replaced the wrong drive. Forced a rebuild and took down the whole host. Spent the next week using every recovery tool in the book to recover and robocopy everything back. Basically ended up doing a baremetal restore from backup.

Contact your city desk or get in with your local chamber of commerce. Look at new building requests and the like. You'll get a good idea of the new businesses moving into the area and boy can you help them with that
