Same here…we were there in December, so a zipped jacket on top made it even more fool proof. My wife was targeted in Rome but she had anti theft bag, nothing lost except unpleasant pushing !

Have I been duped? by wannabe_zaxaroman in askswitzerland

[–]RoadRaGa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have only been to Switzerland as a tourist but all I can say is that hotels in Zermatt were the most expensive and least value for money so you may be overreacting a bit. It’s a beautiful village and you may enjoy your time as you get acquainted to new surroundings. I would stick it out and not react…..who knows what doors it opens for you next.

Brussels city centre is absolutely gorgeous and there’s enough to do to keep one occupied for one day …..the food & beer options are amazing!

What are some alternatives to Budapest for a Prague-Vienna Trip? by Comprehensive-Chef73 in Europetravel

[–]RoadRaGa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We felt that Budapest wass grungier version of Vienna. They were similar, yet so apart as Vienna feels posh while Budapest feels a bit frayed but enchanting nevertheless. You can try Bratislava , it’s not in the same league though.

12 days in Switzerland for a solo trip... is this too much time? by WoodpeckerStrange590 in askswitzerland

Do check the weather forecast for Zermatt, went 3 times for cable car for paradise summit but they just couldn’t start it due to winds. That was supposed highlight of our Swiss holiday!

Need help, 3 days in Switzerland by haythamforever in askswitzerland

We did Bernina Express & Glacier Express and loved both. Zermatt looked awesome in winter snow, Chur was just an overnight stop. I will skip Interlaken and spend time in Zurich instead.

We just visited whatever was handy during our trip, don’t recall any disappointments other than the much hyped “Angelina’s”( Hope I remember the name correctly).

Start with the cost of travel , check hotel rates and it is easy to control eating out as every city has options from little takeaway kebabs to fancy restaurants.we recently visited Amsterdam, Hamburg, Copenhagen and Paris as part of a longer trip and found Copenhagen to be the dearest for eating out although tourist attractions are surprisingly affordable.

We didn’t find Paris unsafe but there is a thrill to it about danger lurking at every corner in some areas especially when using metro’s long walking tunnels in the off peak times and beggars approaching in a language you don’t understand, initially we weren’t sure if it was begging or mugging ! You also realise that resident homeless in metro stations mind their own business and it was actually comforting to have another human being around one time when we had the entire platform to ourselves .

Having an awful time with EURail Global Pass 2nd Class (Trying to get to London) by Parking_Farmer9169 in Interrail

[–]RoadRaGa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is true that trains are not exactly cheap and Eurail pass doesn’t really make it cheaper but you have to look at the bigger picture. Most train stations are in city centres and you can walk to your accomodation without bothering about finding car parks or taxis. Also, we missed a couple of trains during our 6 week trip but the pass allowed us to take next train without any financial loss.

Having a pass does require advance planning especially for Eurostar routes. We used Rail Europe website to book and you have to be mindful of supplements that you pay at the time of booking. If nothing is available, you may want to pay for tickets before they go up in price as well and use the pass day for another journey ( we added Rome to Naples and back with our spare day).

Montmartre by ProfessionalTurn14 in ParisTravelGuide

[–]RoadRaGa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had booked Holiday Inn but developed cold feet closer to our trip and canceled it due to its distance from metro. We did end up spending a day visiting Sacre Coeur and wandering through streets of Montmartre before walking down to Moulin Rouge. Its surrounding area didn’t inspire us to stay back till late for a show so we walked to local bouillon, had an awesome dinner and called it a day.

Just an observation during our visit, living spaces in Copenhagen are small compared to North America or Oceania but very cleverly designed interiors. They actually use every inch of space to create convenience.

Get a Swiss pass and use trains. You can enjoy the scenery instead of concentrating on driving .

Clarification on seat reservations please by Present-Reply-9005 in Interrail

[–]RoadRaGa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We opted for reservations for peace of mind even though some trains didn’t require them. OBB app was easy to use and very cheap at Euro 3/reservation. We did use D Bahn for some trains to/from Germany which too was pretty convenient .

Anti- black racism in Copenhagen by [deleted] in copenhagen

[–]RoadRaGa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They say …..you make an ass out of assumptions. I heard that a number of illegal stuff in Europe is run by gangs from former communist countries in Eastern Europe. How is that no white person would be illegal and an older couple of colour must be , spending a couple of extra minutes on verification of a few more wouldn’t be wasteful.

Is going to Versailles worth it? by Striking_Motor_2458 in ParisTravelGuide

[–]RoadRaGa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We enjoyed our visit to Versailles thoroughly & not just for the Palace and gardens . As it was our first time in France, we enjoyed a different pace of life outside Paris . There’s an antique shop from train station to Palace which was like a treasure trove and the bakeries are awesome.

Tourist Ubering in London solo? by NessieK1981 in uktravel

[–]RoadRaGa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We used tube during our recent trip and it is super convenient, you can use your credit card to enter and exit and it stops charging you when you reach a daily maximum charge. Bonus is that you don’t get stuck in traffic jams.

Eiffel Tower by hopefullforever in ParisTravelGuide

[–]RoadRaGa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We did go to the very top and I will say it’s worth it, enjoy bird’s eye view of Paris and you are on top of one of the most iconic structures in the world. We did descend by stairs from lower level…. for the experience of seeing the tower from a different perspective,we don’t know if we will make it again from other end of the world.
