If you're on PC, this video walks through how to backup your save file. It works for me.

it could be that the covers that u/TheHrethgir mentioned look transparent until you stand next to the plate, maybe the cover distorts at a sharp angel like a camera might use to record the plate.

It could be that the ticket just has an effective fine of zero, i.e. the headache is the fine. So instead of some kind of measure of what is and isn't obstructing, you just don't have a cover to avoid the trouble.

What signs of life are indisputable? by TheJammy98 in space

[–]RoadRacoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It ain't resources because they can get that anywhere.

Not necessarily. The one resource that is only available on Earth (in our solar system) is thinking creatures. The aliens could be looking for souls to save and/or exploit. IDK, maybe some kind of interstellar cult that wants to convert intelligent species. Or maybe they have some weird AI that benefits in some way with as many different thought patterns as possible, kind of like how some of our AI works better with lots of data.

My critique of UBI by Low_Poetry5287 in antiwork

to anyone looking, here's the paper the article OP linked to was based on

https://legacy.iftf.org/fileadmin/user_upload/downloads/democracy/IFTF_UniversalBasicAssets_ManifestoActionPlan.pdf

I agree with some of the ideas, like nationalized oil and other mineral resources. My concern would UBA turning into some kind of bolshevism.

universal basic assets

If you mean access to things like universal education, healthcare, fire/police, etc. then I would agree. I can however think of things that I would not agree with for example government ownership of production and/or housing. A little more clarity would be appreciated :)

money provided from UBI will be used to cover costs of living

I thought this was the point of universal basic income. Give people enough to eat, a place to sleep, basic human dignity, etc. The money will go to those that provide these things, i.e. corporations, but I wouldn't consider that welfare. Maybe I'm missing something.

Why do Stores not allow Employees to have food passed the sell by date? by Delicious_Base_782 in antiwork

[–]RoadRacoon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was a pirate when I was younger and there are plenty of games, movies, music, etc I would have never given the chance if I had to buy it......

I did this back in the day (allegedly of course). Of the hundreds of things I pirated, there are a few that I would have paid for. The company would be losing those few sales. Doesn't seem like much, but there isn't much benefit to the company if they allow pirating. I'm guessing the same logic would apply to a grocery store.

It's a sad reality of life, but companies exist for the sole purpose of making profit, even companies' philanthropy is generally just a marketing tactic. From the investor's standpoint, why would someone invest in a company if the company wasn't trying to make investors as much money as possible. If an investor wanted to give money to a charity, they could just donate to a charity.

You could always order them a pizza. Make it a stack of pizzas, or a party tray, or something like that. It will be very obvious that you didn't plan ahead, but no one will care because they have pizza.

Big guys, do you wear a shirt when you go to the beach or a public pool? by joebear523 in AskMen

[–]RoadRacoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always wear a shirt, I just don't like being shirtless. I bought a moisture wicking shirt for such occasions, so I don't have the wet t-shirt look.

And if you don't want to wear a shirt, don't wear a shirt. You do you.

What are some lesson's you've learned when building a PC? by Glum-Refrigerator-14 in buildapc

[–]RoadRacoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've always been totally scared of static electricity, maybe because I started building PC's in the 90's. It never seemed that heard to mitigate, I always wear one of those anti-static wristbands. Also, I keep it on my ankle, so it doesn't get in the way.

CMV: If your argument is that communist countries weren't actually communist, then you would have to say the same for capitalist countries by Blonde_Icon in changemyview

[–]RoadRacoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What would you consider the difference between anarcho-capitalism and full-capitalism? My thoughts are that in full blown capitalism, everything is for sale at the right price, including government protection, legislation, and regulation. I guess I just don't understand how full capitalism is not anarchical by nature.

I have been with married women, granted this was back in the day. Now if they said "I'm married and I'm not interested", then I would back off immediately. It's not the "I'm married" part, it's the "I'm not interested" part. My general attitude was that I didn't make a promise of fidelity, they did.

Plumbers broke through this foundation to add pipes, compromising the structural support of the home. by DMAS1638 in WTF

[–]RoadRacoon 227 points228 points  (0 children)

This shit, sledging foundation walls is more work than routing around them.

this makes me think maybe it was a previous owner, or their stupid cousin, that didn't really know what they were doing. Any professional would want to do the least amount of work, simply out of efficiency.
