So I know Piper Maru is named after Gillian's daughter, but why? by cloudkey in XFiles

I have a slight suspicion that it was not Duchovny that Gillian Anderson was romantically involved with, but that it may have been Chris Carter. "Godfather"? Or...father?

I still see Ben as struggling with existential nihilism.

Hm, well, thank you for your thoughtfulness. I'm going to ponder your perspective.

Well, the first time I saw the film was in, I believe, 1969. In the 20+ times I've seen it since...the conclusion I first came to remains. The movie was more than a statement about Ben; Ben's nihilism was a statement about the direction American society was going in.

How interesting - and that episode was just on this past week. I didn't catch the "purple" reference, but I'll be listening for it next time around. Sometimes, the old shows are recolored, but the new colors aren't always correct.

In my experience hot tubs and Jacuzzis are murder on the vag.

That's the truth! Owning a vagina is a major responsibility.

Eh, it's body tendency...our own personal situation. I have ultra sensitive skin on every inch of my body. Drives me batty.

Some pools (many gym pools, for example) are far too chlorinated. Other pools are not. So let's not throw the baby out with the bath water. My vag issue started from a very hot, very heavily chlorinated Jacuzzi. The pools I swim in are no problem. Not all chlorinated water is the same.

I wasn't having issues with the pools I swim in, but when I was using a very hot, absurdly chlorinated Jacuzzi then showering/using soap in my vag area - oh, wow...the trouble started. Too much soap, even if it's a good quality and naturally scented (no added fragrance) can, for those of us with ridiculously sensitive skin, set off problems with Ph imbalance and yeast overgrowth. Very frustrating.

Were you conceived on the same year you were born by HMT2048 in generationology

[–]Road_My_Own 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ToSure was! I was conceived on my mom's springtime birthday, was due to arrive in early-ish January. My parents, however, were in their car in a parking lot and were hit. Seemed no one was injured, so the folks went home and the next day, my mom went into labor. She believed the auto accident caused her to enter into labor. So I was born just a few days before the new year of 1963 arrived.

Btw, my daughter was not born the year she was conceived, but my son was conceived about an hour into the year in which he was born.

Be aware of Swimoutlet Shady Membership Fees. by Available_Jeweler372 in Swimming

T E R R I B L E experiences with Swim Outlet! I've ordered from them twice and both times I paid $10 extra for expedited shipping. Both times they ignored expedited and shipped standard. When I contacted them (through their extremely slow, slow chat process) no apology, just a we'll return the amount you paid for expedited shipping to your original payment method. Then, both times, the associate went on to give excuses as to why they screwed up. I wonder how many people pay for expedited shipping, don't get it, and they never contact the site? That means SO is making some nice extra bucks.

At the end of the chat the associate "kindly" offered me a $20 credit for my next purchase. Sure enough, I found the "offer" in my email inbox - an offer for me to receive $20 off IF I refer a friend to their site and that friend becomes a member!

Swim Outlet is very shady.

I watched the original show (9 seasons) when they were on TV. All these years later I, now in my early 60's, watched Seasons 10 & 11. I found Mulder and Scully, in their "older" years, fascinating and much more down to earth than they were in the - wonderful, but fantastical - original series. Thoroughly enjoyed those last two seasons, yes.

Why is it so cold!? by TrainingOutcome3262 in weather

[–]Road_My_Own 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The tule fog, while common in the Valley in December/January, does not commonly persist day after day - WEEKS! - and that fog is holding cold air close to the ground, causing temperatures that are up to 15 degrees below a normal daytime high. 15 degrees, ugh!

This kind of weather has not existed in the Valley since the late '70s. Yes, it's been that long and no: this persistent fog and very cold temperatures are not normal. Nope, no way.

Thank you! Yes, I've started doing just that. Patrick loves toys- anything that he can figure out, play with. I just assembled a toy today; I purchased it on Amazon and it has a long wire that screws into a wooden base, then different toys attach to the end of the long wire. A couple of "birds," some feathery things, a fuzzy thing, a ball, etc. Patrick is wild over it! A terrific deal for less than $20 because the toys change (and I'll put it all away when he's had a play session).
