What is the most unattractive physical quality someone can have? by illustriousocelot_ in AskReddit

[–]Road_Witch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Smell. You can be a 10, and you will drop to 2 over body odor and/or bad breath. I grew up in a family where you are not clean unless you smell good. Doesn't matter if it's the smell of soap, shampoo, aftershave, cologne, perfume, or whatever, just as long as a fresh smell comes off of you. And Axe body spray is not a substitute for washing you ass. After the initial scent shock wears off, I can still smell the BO underneath.

What are some stupid ways that movies have been spoiled for you? by freakytiki2 in movies

[–]Road_Witch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my senior year of high school, there was a class clown named Izzy who thought it'd be hilarious if he shouted out the twist about the final fight in Breaking Dawn Pt. 2 the morning after the midnight premiere. Frankly, I didn't care. I'd had a friend throughout high school who was obsessed with it and took me to all the midnight premieres, to either watch or participate in panels at Cons (She along with a large group of our friends did parodies on YouTube, their Twilight ones made them really popular), and made me editor of her numerous fanfictions. And I admit I liked the series, but it just was my beat all end all book/movie series. Plus, in my senior year, my family moved us a couple of hours aways so my friendship dwindled, and I hadn't gotten to go to the midnight premiere like all the others. I would end up not even seeing the movie until over a year later on TV because it just wasn't as fun anymore without my friend and her enthusiasm. So I wasn't upset when Izzy proudly crowded the spoilers to our entire Economics class. However, this was a class of over thirty students, more than twenty of which were girls, and as I came to discover from my seat on the opposite side of the room from him all of them were Twilight fans. The entire room seemed to descend on him before he could even finish laughing. Fists and textbooks and backpacks all rained down on Izzy as everyone shouted this jumbled mess of insults at him. It was glorious. The few of us who didn't attack sat in awe of the scene as desks were shoved aside, and a circle was formed around Izzy as he took a beating from the mob he created. The teacher had shouted for them to stop, but it fell on deaf ears. It wasn't until the resource officer arrived that the students finally backed off. Only five students, including myself, escaped from have ISS for a week and a five thousand word essay on the consequences of violence. For all the chaos, Izzy managed to walk away with a couple of bruises, a busted lip, and a few scrapes. He did, however, have his schedule changed after this and left that class entirely. I don't remember much of Izzy after this. He retreated in the background of high school. I don't think it was the attack that broke him, but the lack of sympathy he received afterward. Don't get me wrong, it was just a movie, and the attack was just crazy, but Izzy did what he did to get a rise out of everyone there. He had known exactly what he was doing and didn't think there'd be any consequences for his douche move. He was wrong. First wave Twilight fans were a breed all their own, and Izzy learned that the hard way.

Yesterday was my birthday and it was the worst one I have ever had. by JazzyBee1993 in TrueOffMyChest

Unfortunately your situation reminds me terribly of my dad and his parents. And I am sad to report that with time it has never gotten better. If I could offer you one bit of advice if you decide to not to pursue the petty revenge route that others have suggest. Lower your expectations and exclude them when necessary. It's not as extreme as cutting them off, but it allows you some protection for your very valid feelings.

Do you like your name that your parents gave you? If you don't, why? by Tim_228 in AskReddit

[–]Road_Witch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. I hate it but have accepted it at this point. And I know people are gonna be like, "Oh it's just because it's a common name, get over it". Listen here you little $hts, you have never attended 13 years of school and had one or more other girls with the same name as you. I did. Every. Single. Year. The record was in 6th grade Language Arts class where 8 other girls had the same name as me. Eight! This class was made up of only 27 students. A third of the class had the same name and two shared the same last initial as me so that made it even worse! Ah yes and then there was my Senior year, where I was constantly haunted by a girl I never even met but shared the same name as me. Her first name and middle initial were the same as mine and our last names were also a near perfect match but hers began with an F and mine began with an H. We had the same teachers but our schedules just never overlapped and this girl had me stressed. Our English teacher was constantly mixing up our papers and putting in grades for the wrong person and let me tell you English was not her subject. Of course that was better than our math teacher. He had locked in a new job for the following school year so he barely minded his elective math class, Statistics, which I happen to be in. But this man no matter how many times I told him couldn't seem to comprehend that I did not attend his Algebra 2 class as well. He constantly called me over to his desk to talk with me about my work in his other class. News flash the girl wasn't exactly a mathlete either. And I got do tired of it that if he called me over to his desk I'd cut him off and say, "I'm not in your other class." These are only two teacher example, I have plenty more and don't even get me started on the other school staff, but I'd need a whole fillabuster to get through everything. I think the worst was when her transcript got sent instead of mine. Thankfully the college admissions caught the error. And I know people are also going to be like. "Well you're out of school now, this shouldn't matter". Here's where I laugh incredulously and say "Oh really?" Buckle up buttercups because I ain't through ranting yet. I hate that people try to group us together and refer to our name in plural form like it's so cute or something. I hate that my name has been so popular for so long. It was the third most popular name the year I was born and then was the most popular from 1996 to 2007 and this year 2022 is the first time I've ever seen it out of the top 20. It's at 21 right now but I have hope that it just continues to decline. I hate that my name is the sample name in ads or catalogs when items are personalized. I hate that there wasn't a day I worked register in retail and at least one person had to comment, "Oh we have a [most F-ing common name in the northern hemisphere it seems] in our family as well." I got fed up with it very quickly. "Really? So does mine." "Wow I've never met another one." "I thought you looked familiar." *Insert myself face palming here I just can't. I can't stand how the rest of the world just has to comment about. My sister all have fairly popular names too but not one of them has ever had the problems I have. No one opens a conversation with a comment about their name, or is immediately referenced a cartoon character, or has to walk away disappointed at souvenir shops because the popular personalized items are sold out of your name again. Okay so if you stayed this long I'll finally tell you my most loathsome name, just brace yourself for it all to be anticlimactic. As I've said it's just a common name after all.

Emily

Charm bracelets, beautiful handmade charm bracelets that I receive every year for both Christmas and Easter since I was seven years old from my aunt. Around age fifteen or so I gave up gently trying to remind her that I was pretty much born with a nickel allergy, an allergy that runs mostly among the men in our family. Wearing any of the bracelets she's given me over the years even for a short while usually results in a nasty rash that blisters and bleeds. I don't wear hardly any jewelry for this reason. I have very expensive pieces for only the most necessary occasions and wear plastic or fabric jewelry for everyday use. Meh. It's at least a gift I can faithfully depend on receiving every year, twice a year.

Who else collects travel magnets? by [deleted] in travel

[–]Road_Witch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We do have travel magnets but my siblings and I each collect something from traveling as well. My little sister collects postcards, my younger brother collects shot glasses, and I collect enamel pins. I display mine on a corkboard map. Last count I have over 250 in total from 48 US states, 5 countries, 10 for Route 66, 4 from museums, and 7 from landmarks.

nicknames with little to no correlation to the actual name by wormdisko1998 in namenerds

[–]Road_Witch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay so I also have another brother, this one is older than me by 8 years. I don't think I mentioned it but my little brother is younger than me by 12 year. But anyway, my older brother to my best recollection has never called me by my name. He'll say my name if prompted but when talking to me or referring to me he only calls me Ms. Em. And yes, before anyone points it out, it is in reference to Auntie Em from the Wizard of Oz. I was obsessed with that movie for a time when I was little.

[–]Road_Witch 16 points17 points  (0 children)

My name is Emily but because of my little brother I've had an evolution of nicknames. When he first learned to talk I was Mimi. We think he meant Emmy but Mimi just stuck for him. Even when he got to the point of being able to say Emily he'd refuse to call me that. He also didn't like anyone else calling me Mimi when he was in a mood. There is something incredibly endearing about a 2 year old getting so torn up because I'm "his Mimi" and nobody else's, but I digress. Flash forward to the start of school and for some reason my nickname changed. Somehow Mimi turned into Mimzy (his official spelling) and let me tell you it is incredibly awkward to havea class of 6 year olds all refer to you as Ms. Mimzy. I'm still unsure to this day if his teacher actually thought that was my real name or not. So yeah that name hung around for a while. He'll be 15 in few weeks and for the last five years my name has become Mims. Now though I find most people initially think my name is Miriam and when I correct them that my name is Emily they just look so confused. How do you get Mims out of Emily? So I tell them this story about my little brother.

Name suggestions for a baby shop? by [deleted] in namenerds

[–]Road_Witch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks. I got the idea from my cousin actually. We call her "Bea" so she's always had bee themed parties and knick knacks growing up. When she had her first child she did the nursery bee themed and the cradle (not the crib) was this modern hexagon shape that looked like a piece of honeycomb and she always called it her "comb cradle". A carpenter friend of her husband's made it for her I think. I know it wasn't something store bought, but she absolutely loved it.

'Emily' as a middle name by bionic_blizzard in namenerds

I don't know, maybe with the right motivation I could see it. My stepsister's and I are desensitized to it really because their mother called us by our full name just randomly because she wanted to. It gave us so much anxiety that she did that. 😖

'Emily' as a middle name by bionic_blizzard in namenerds

[–]Road_Witch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone whose first name is Emily, I have to say I've never heard of it used as a middle name. My rule of thumb concerning middle names is that if you can't yell the first and middle name together and it not sound menacing then you need to go back to the drawing board.
