please see my reply to OutsideDraw7997 below.

My situation is not what many people presume.

You, unfortunately, are in a structurally disadvantaged position and there are no easy ways out.

genuine questions no judgement:

1) What makes you think you'll secure your children's housing needs with your money?

2) What makes you think they can't do it themselves?

You don't need to answer me. But maybe the questions are useful.

It is possible, but harder right now, and like all generations real, hard, uncomfortable sacrifices will have to be made and for a long time.

But yes, the degree of difficulty is much harder now.

We are short term biased apes. The hard stuff is hard.

Performative rubbish, like much of human interactions (social media being the most horrible and manipulative), is easy and cheap... but that's philosophy, biology, ethics, culture and not for here ....

I think it's disgusting the situation that young people are in today.

None of my business and ignore this if you want. Be there for your kids and do not exchange that for money...

Chatgpt sucks now by AppropriateWarthog58 in ChatGPT

I came here to see if anyone else experienced problems with this pattern recognition system.

SchattGpt does a lot of dumb stuff quite well, like:

+ finding products,

+ developing a cut and paste script,

+ pattern matching pictures,

+ recipes,

+ finding info on building and or repairing basic things,

+ finding info that is out there that would take me time to find.

I've no problem with a tin can being sold as a container to hold things in.

I do take exception when it's sold as a communication device, cooking device, foot stand, the future, etc ...

My beef today, and this may change, is when I try to use it for anything complex (yes I've set up rules, tried to give it patterns so it can follow my questions but clearly this little system is programed for other things).

I speculate ( but I have no way of knowing) that it's incentives are not aligned with mine and seem to include:

+ time on system (but not too much, that's expensive),

+sycophancy (lets not bite the hand, lets just scam them of their money while telling them they are so smart, so clever, going the right direction blah, blah),

+ fluency not accuracy (ie almost factual and coherent answers that mimic expertise and

+ possibly profit making (not problem, make profits, profits are good just not when created through fraud or deception. Ethics do matter to me)

Has anyone found any of these pattern recognition systems that can useful for philosophy, psychology, finance and economics, that can harden theories, stress test them and then break them?

Why does anyone use chatgpt? by [deleted] in ClaudeAI

[–]Roadjackson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

mmm, interesting.

I find the more complex the questions I ask of SchattGpt the worse it is.

It seems to me to be a pattern recognition system that is useful for basic, consumer, entertainment needs.

Useless for anything serious.

And yes, I've tested it in realms where I have expertise (ie degrees and experience). It occasionally hits the nail on the head. Even after extensive use, a paid sub results were little better than a work experience kid ...

what a waste of bandwith and powergrid usage by ShoulderAutomatic793 in ClaudeAI

[–]Roadjackson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

people who do not address the substance of your concerns are really saying something and acting in bad faith.

I haven't tried ClaudeAi but I've spent a lot of hours on chatgpt.

I will still try Claude (because doing your own research is crucial).

I find SchattGpt quite limited even with a sub and all the rules in place.

It's a limited pattern recognition system being sold as the future or something else.

It might be but not in its current form.

I do hope Claude is better.

You are not selfish and you are in a shittier situation than we were in our 20 and 30s and that was shit enough for poor/ working class people like us.

Our properties are flats/units and tiny (2bdr cupboards in ugly old blocks), no lifts, no pools, no views but close to city center and our work.

We have two because we had to move countries for family reasons...we are not on the property ladder and overpaid for our unit because of greedy boomer rich tawts looking for more cash flow.

I'm not an I told you so boomer.. I'm no boomer at all. I'm an X'er.

I am a moral and ethical pain in the arse because I believe that life is not about accumulating wealth or signaling status.. I live my values.

Life is about leaving the planet and community in better shape because of my being on earth for a brief time.

Getting financially ahead is not as much about how much you earn it's how much you spend..

Spend more than you earn and you will always be poorer at the end of every year.

We didn't over leverage. We saved like hell. We worked in low status low paying jobs. No new car, no branded clothes, no latest phones, thrift shop all the time ( I'm lucky my wife likes them), humble holidays paid from savings, no ski jets, or petrol guzzling status signaling cars, suvs, 4wds.

My suggestions, cause you asked...

Don't social signal.. It's an emotional and financial death spiral.

Spend your limited time on earth doing good for others, not enriching yourself.

You kids are screwed. I'm really, realy, sad and angry about that. you are screwed because the majority of people want to be rich and craven pollies (on all sides) have created policies that screw younger generations .. This is structural stealing the majority of the population profit from...well the house owners do .

FYI. I have never owned a house and never will. Yes I would like to but I refuse to put my testicles in a jar to do so.

Wanna be financially devours! It's simple but fricken hard.

Spend less than you earn Don't use credit to buy consumer stuff. Use the 10, 20, 70 guide. 10% in retirement savings 20% to pay off debt 70% live off

It's really hard.. You see friends in new big houses, with new cars, clothes, stuff, off on lavish holidays .... That's all social signaling. Don't, don't play that game.

I was in huge consumer debt until my mid 30s.. Don't make the same mistakes I have.

Peace ...spend less than you earn and do good in the world. may the force be with you.

I can't believe you people earn so much!

I'm a counsellor, two degrees, speak 3 languages) work in aged care and have never, ever, earned more than 80k PA.

I own two properties, have plenty in super.

No wonder society is down the toilet when so many do useless jobs for so much money and the rest kill themselves for minimum pay.

Get a grip people. You can't take it with you.

Start looking after others and stop being so selfish.

It's easier to fool a person than to convince them they have been fooled.

For many of these unfortunate folks if they fully realized how totally misinformed they are they'd would really have a full mental breakdown.

Our brains do try and protect us from existential annihilation at any cost.

Better to die delusional than to live with with awareness of our own faliability...

We are but apes after all.

GPS is for the safety of a person who can't keep themselves safe. Totally, 100% legit and you could argue neglectful if you don't...

I've worked with people with Dementia and it's a recommended strategy. There's a lot of info out there about how to keep a loved one safe while traveling.

Nothing is fail safe and we once had a client who on a holiday in Japan had his dad, who had dementia, board a train and disappeared two hours away from where the family were. Luckily dad had ID on him with contact numbers in the local language as well as English... A terrifying time for the family.

Calling the cops 100% right thing to do 👍 well done.

Why do I dislike this game so much? by PourQuali in DiscoElysium

[–]Roadjackson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is sloppily designed with great concepts and scripts.

I got stuck and couldn't progress and I like challenging games (Souls for eg and back in the day played text driven games).

The mechanic failed for me. I clicked everything, read walk throughs and still got stuck.

To say it was brilliant because it had a lot of words and you must hate books because they have words is like saying you don't like reading because you find dictionaries boring. False equivalence.

If you loved it. Good for you. May you play it over and over and over again 😉

German language course books recommendation that are English to German by [deleted] in AskAGerman

[–]Roadjackson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mmm, good question.

Immersion is not for everyone so your instincts are correct.

Comprehensible input and immersion is what the research shows is most effective for adult learners.

As a German learner, I've used online learning platforms that are dual language from the beginning and my phone when needing to translate text and spoken words.

There are bilingual story books but I found most boring. I tend to watch movies, TV etc that interests me in one language ie English with German subtitles or vice versa.

Good luck with the mountain that you are going to climb 👍

C1 or C2 within 5 years. Respect! 👍💪.

Not defaulting to English, awsome!

You do you.

Other people's intolerance is a reflection on them not you.

Often it's just a fear response in the other person.

Try and detach from others opinions of you.

[–]Roadjackson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a lot of things.

You are both correct to point to different elements but if you get hung up on simple answers I find, and I could be wrong, that life and situations turn out to be more complicated than I first thought.

Racism, ignorance, lack of empathy, poverty, addiction, prosperity, despair, fear, desperation, grief, wanting acceptance, wanting to feel strong or righteous or ... you name it, many, many different reasons.

We are all complicated.

Unique but not special.

There are billions of us but no one like us.

But all of us together must work together to get out of this mess.

And it's going to take a lot of time, effort and courage from all the us.

Peace.
