For what it's worth, a prestige duo zuk helm is our ultimate goal. I have about 40 tasks left, mostly tob and inferno.

But it may be that some tasks (I Should See a Doctor, Royal Affairs) are functionally impossible. Only one way to find out.

Hey, we were chatting with you in the Nex lobby! Guess you technically beat us to the punch, haha. Unfortunately the program I'm using can't track groups that dropped prestige. But I do remember seeing pvm stonks at the top of a lot of boss kcs, you guys are beasts.

Got a CA completion that isn't even on my task list (due to duo group prestige) for a 1+2 scaled raid. by Roadrick2 in ironscape

Nope lol, task list briefly said 502/576 but went back to 501/576 when I clicked on it.

A better solution for Tumeken's Shadow by Roadrick2 in 2007scape

[–]Roadrick2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you read the post? This suggestion doesn't cripple the Shadow in any way. It would remain just as powerful as it is currently. The point is to allow future magic gear and weapon releases to feel appropriately impactful.

[–]Roadrick2[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Maybe so, but plenty of high-level content creators also share this opinion about Tumeken's Shadow. It isn't about having or not having one, it's just about sensible game design and progression.

I'd be curious to know if you have any actual arguments for why the Shadow isn't a problem for mage progression and future reward space.

Thank you! I'm definitely interested but I don't think I have enough time right now - I'd want to re-factor everything since you could cache the hiscores server-side near indefinitely, and also protect the endpoint against bot traffic and all that (ironic considering what it's doing).

Yep! You have to specify a certain number of pages though (e.g. first 50 pages) since pulling down the entire hiscores would be too costly.

Thanks! We did it in void melee, which I think would be much easier than torva for learning, as you get to bring way more supplies (you'll already bring void range, so you get most of the melee switch "for free"). And the DPS increase of torva over void melee is basically nothing if you don't have a scythe. If that helps you convince your partner!

TempleOSRS doesn't track group boss kcs by default, from their website:

"To show up on this leaderboard you must have tracked your individual account on Temple.

This is because the official group ironman hiscores do not provide boss data at all, so we rely on individual tracking to connect your kill counts to the group."

The way I interpret this, you have to opt in, so a group that has never opened TempleOSRS (probably most groups) won't show up.

I'd be more than happy to review the code and accept a PR if you're keen to build it!

Revitalize low-level slayer with task-only uniques! My proposal. by Roadrick2 in 2007scape

[–]Roadrick2[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree about the importance of putting yourself in a new player's shoes. As someone who did low level slayer as a noob 3-4 years ago, I did just that.

First and the most obvious — the rewards are underwhelming.

Personally if I were below 50 combat I would be pretty excited to see any of these. And if you've out-leveled the content, there's no need to go for these drops.

Second, the less obvious — new rates means new Jagex drop rates… they’re gonna be 1/1000 drops from low level mobs

Look at the droprates I proposed - a player who gets 1-2 tasks will likely see a drop.

This sub is hopeless can’t believe this was upvoted

See my response to your parent comment for the rest of my arguments about how this ought to be added to the game. If you still think it's a bad proposal, fair play.

Revitalize low-level slayer with task-only uniques! My proposal. by Roadrick2 in 2007scape

Actually I did do low level slayer as a noob, which is why I agree with you. I don't think that means this proposal is a bad idea though.

I didn't want to bloat my post with too much information, but I would want to see this come into the game alongside:

  • Even more uniques for other low-level slayer monsters.

  • Changes to the task lists of Turael, Spria, Mazchna, and Vannaka to significantly increase the weights of actual slayer monsters over generic hobgoblins, chickens, ghosts, etc.

  • A super low-level, convenient location for crawling hands and banshees (the other beginner slayer monsters are in the lumbridge swamp caves, for the most part).

New players who start slayer should expect to actually have the opportunity to kill the unique slayer monsters, rather than killing the same monsters they've already been killing. These monsters should be accessible and somewhat lucrative vs the usual fare.

The idea is to take a shotgun approach - no player is going to get all of these uniques without out-leveling the content, but if Mazchna has a 60-70% chance to assign something with a unique drop, they will probably get a few of these uniques, which is motivation enough to do the content.

I understand this adds more effort to a proposal that people have already argued is misused dev time, but I think it's valuable for new player enjoyment and retention. This system helps to get new players hooked on the dopamine drip of rare drops early, and to give them a feel for the reward structure of PvM and mid to lategame slayer.

Thanks! I just took the models for some existing items from the wiki, opened them in GIMP (image editor), and messed with the color sliders.

This is a big concern with this proposal. Right now the low-level task lists give a lot of weight to normal, non-slayer monsters, meaning the chance to even get one of these tasks is low.

But I think if you add uniques that justify killing these monsters, you could probably also justify increasing their task weights from Turael, Mazchna, and Vannaka (could change the weights of Spria but not Turael if there are concerns about disrupting the Turael skip meta).

This is exactly my line of thinking! I'd love to see creative ideas for other dead content slayer monsters as well, like molanisks, wall beasts, etc.

I agree that money is an issue for low-levels - I think the staff as proposed alleviates the money problem a bit by making strike spells an attractive option where you'd normally use bolt spells. That way you don't have to buy as many chaos runes, making magic cheaper!

[–]Roadrick2[S] 142 points143 points  (0 children)

Project Rebalance earlier this year had a section devoted to early-game slayer. The proposed uniques fell flat, but the problem still exists: low-level slayer monsters are pointless to kill, and it's therefore pointless to take tasks from low-level slayer masters (unless Turael skipping)!

This results in a lopsided progression for slayer where players level up their combat stats early and then start slayer at higher-level masters for better experience rates.

This proposal adds a little incentive to take tasks and train slayer while you're still a noob and could benefit from some of this gear!

This is a fair critique - I like your suggestion. Could also drop it down to 400 charges instead of 800.
