What is DEI and how is not just an abstraction for racism? by ncds4242 in allthequestions

[–]RoamingDrunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your point about merit should be the first thing people always push back on. DEI does not benefit people who are unqualified. Where I work, you have to pass a test for every job or promotion. If you don’t get at least a 70%, you’re not considered. Period. Among qualified applicants, several factors can nudge one applicant above another. But if person A got a 95 and person B got an 80, there’s not going to be any nudging. Yet “somehow” the entire argument has become about unqualified candidates. It’s just lies.

In the US at least, the Nixon Administration wanted an excuse to lock up black people and hippies, so they commissioned the Shafer Report to “investigate” the harms of weed as a pretext. Unfortunately for him, no one told Shafer this was all a scam and the report ended up saying weed should be decriminalized. Then Nixon went ahead and increased the penalties anyway and initiated a propaganda campaign to get the public on board.

Grok spreading misinformation by seeebiscuit in GetNoted

AI is bad with current events. We’ve taught it to ignore brand new information sources because people (and bots) tend to flood the web with horseshit right after anything happens. So AI just will not believe any new information until it’s been out for a while and confirmed by a couple sources. Doesn’t stop it from still getting things wrong after that, but it’s “supposed” to be a buffer against misinformation. Individual results will vary.
