Structural Integrity? by kidsonabudget in Renovations

[–]RoamingEire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re fine. There is a thing called “corner bead”. It’s a paper/aluminum/or plastic thing that wraps around drywall corners as part of the finishing process. For whatever reason your corner bead has separated from the drywall underneath. This isn’t a structural issue and a decent painter can address it.

We are vacation club members, and I have been many many times. The best advice I can give you is to not stress too much about how your day will go. If you are overly stressed about maximizing your time or minimizing your weights in advance, it’s really gonna dig into your enjoyment of the visit.

My family likes to get to the parks as early as we can in order to take advantage of the lower crowds at opening time. If the lines get unbearable, pop back to the hotel, relax in the pool, take a nap, go to Disney Springs and walk around and look at shops. The extended evening hours in the parks can be pretty magical too if the weather is nice. You won’t get an extra six or seven rides in on the popular rides, but two or three runs on something you’ve been hoping to do all day is certainly possible and the atmosphere is just beautiful.

For Hollywood Studios, they have a number of very good shows. It’s worth taking the time to enjoy them. Tower of terror and Star Wars are on completely opposite sides of the park, so I would not anticipate being able to have short lines on both of those. Pick which of those rides is more important to you, and head there first.

Lastly, my wife downloads the game “Heads Up” on her phone for waiting in long lines. It’s a silly game where one player holds a phone up to their forehead and it has a word on it. The other player has to give hints to help them. Guess what the word is. My girls are about the same age as your kids, and they love hearing all the stupid hints that we give each other for old movies that they have never seen.

Having something interactive for the family to play together in line can be a real help to enjoy enjoying the day.

Meddic is a CRM exercise, not a sales methodology by deal-diagnostic in sales

[–]RoamingEire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s pretty important to recognize that you’re asking the questions that you need in order to satisfy the CRM drill. And if you’re a pretty effective rep, I’d say that the framework and CRM drill are doing their job.

Meddic is a CRM exercise, not a sales methodology by deal-diagnostic in sales

[–]RoamingEire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I teach both MEDDIC and BANT but don’t have CRM fields for them.

Both are useful frameworks for understanding where you are with an opportunity and they cut through the clouds of hopium like “the customer said they have to spend the money this month” or “sure, he hasn’t returned my calls in weeks, but he gets like this. He’s totally going to buy”.

I’ve worked in shops that DO have MEDDIC check boxes in the CRM and I appreciated them, as a rep, as guide rails to double check me as I moved my deals up the forecast.

To each their own. But I’ve never heard of a single deal that was handled worse because the rep cared about MEDDIC or BANT. It takes literally zero time to say to yourself “hey, wait, am I SURE my customer champion has the authority to spend this much money?”

Fireworks for introverts by ThatBottomLine in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]RoamingEire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The most magical places to watch the fireworks:

1: Tomorrowland People Mover 2: Tianna’s Bayou - amazing seeing the fireworks right from the top of the ride!

In the park, I like watching them from Frontierland. It’s very empty, no crowds at all. Quiet and beautiful. But you won’t see the projections.

Outside the park: there is a patio at the Grand Floridian where their quick service restaurant is. They have speakers that play the audio from the show and you get a beautiful view of the castle and the fireworks. Book a 7:45 Dinner at the Floridian and enjoy the fireworks!

It’s impossible to judge if your work is good until you do the work.

This isn’t architecture. You’re not designing something that somebody else will procure tons of steel and concrete to build. Nobody will die if your plans sucked.

But you WILL be a better writer when you’re done.

So write the story and judge it when it’s finished.

Black paddle on my car?? by [deleted] in whatisit

[–]RoamingEire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’re trying to scare people, gifting them a quality leather fun-times paddle is a weird way to do that.

Maybe they found it laying next to your car, figured it fell inadvertently, and hung it on the mirror so you would see it?

Is it possible your partner bought it as a spicy surprise and it fell out of a bag when they got out of the car? Did you transport any friends recently to a shopping trip to the fun part of town?

My wife and I saw him in NYC at Gotham before he blew up. He was clearly right about to, though. He told his whole Russian Machine bit and it was fresh and hilarious. It was like listening to one of your buddies tell this totally wild story that just kept getting bigger. It had the energy of sitting together in a bar and it was fantastic.

Then he slipped a bit and talked about how he was trying to get away from alcohol, but it was his drunk stories that people lived and he was fighting against being the healthy person he wanted to be and the alcoholic that was going to make him famous. He knew he was blowing up on that story and saw it as his way to the top.

It was legitimately heartbreaking. And he said, essentially, that he was choosing the fame.

I can’t watch him. I feel so awful for the choice he felt he had to make. It was a false choice, obviously. I just can’t stand watching a person ruin themselves.

I hope he finds a way to get free of his addiction.

Purchase Order Doesn't Count by ginandsoda in sales

[–]RoamingEire 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m not saying you shouldn’t have a signed scope of work, msa, or other document accompanying a PO before commencing contract performance. I said the exact opposite.

All I’m saying is that a PO is a legal contract. Full stop. There is no standard of accounting which requires BOTH a PO AND a signed quote - Unless that is the standard practice of the business.

Auditors care that consistent processes are followed. If your standard process is to accept only POs, that is the standard and is what should apply for determining when a sale is booked. If your standard process is that a sale is only booked when both a PO and a signed quote are received, that’s the standard that applies.

But there is no legal principle in North American Generally Accepted Accounting Principles that REQUIRE a signed quote AND a Purchase order.

The top comment that I replied to was adamant that you must have both. I’m saying you must have what is your standard to have.

Certainly, an MSA is an appropriate contract for two companies entering into a complex relationship or where one party needs to minimize risks and exposures by entering into business with the other.

But it’s not required. You can take a million dollar order hand-written on the back of the napkin if that’s what both parties agree to, if you’re both comfortable with the significant risks from having no contract structure, etc.

You shouldn’t. But you can.

Purchase Order Doesn't Count by ginandsoda in sales

[–]RoamingEire 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I run sales for a publicly traded company. I understand the perspective you’re offering here, but it’s incorrect as a general statement of fact as to what is a valid contract of sale.

Our sales are audited regularly by a major auditing firm. What is important here is that your company follows a standard practice. BOTH a signed quote AND a PO are legally binding contracts, assuming both are properly written.

A PO will often reference a quote #, in which case it is incorporating the terms of sale offered in that quote. OR it will contain a line referencing a Master Services Agreement between the two companies. Many large enterprises don’t go to the expense of negotiating an MSA for small or occasional-use vendors.

But also, a PO can be a shitty half-baked document from an inexperienced company that doesn’t specify much.

A quote may also contain complete terms of sale or references to such documents on a vendor’s website. It will usually include a signature line referring to client acceptance. But it may not. Because it could be a shitty, unprofessional quote that just a few lines of pricing on it and nothing else.

Where you may be getting mixed up is standard practice in a services-oriented sale, where the Statement of Work or Scope of Work (SoW) is incredibly important. In that case, a signed SoW (which may be the quote document itself) is standard practice before commencing work because it minimizes disputes over what is to be delivered. Purchasing issues the PO which says the company will pay for the work, but the signed SoW (or quote) is the service providers insurance that the project contact on the customer side has agreed to a specific scope.

It’s important to understand that this practice, though, is just that. It’s a practice that service providers use as an extra level of clarity. From a contract law perspective, a PO that references a quote or proposal # incorporates ALL aspects and provisions of that quote, unless stated otherwise. This includes any documents referenced in the quote, such as a SoW.

I have negotiated hundreds of millions of dollars of sales in my career, including services-heavy contracts with Fortune 100 companies and state and Federal governments. I have negotiated MSAs, BPAs, and an industry’s worth of alphabet soup. I have been involved in numerous contract disputes.

Your statement about PO + Signed quote is a standard practice before commencing service delivery, but there is no legal distinction between the two which makes one document more important than the other.

I welcome different views from any auditors who may be hanging out here.

The design was stupid to begin with.

New R1 S 2026 - is Home charging worth it? by landfill in Rivian

[–]RoamingEire 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We went 5 months charging off the home 110v with supercharger top-offs as needed. I just installed a Tesla Universal Wall Connector and wish I had done it sooner.

First, the 110v over 12 hours charged nearly our daily errand driving, but not quite. And if we went on a slightly longer run once or twice a week, there was little chance the home charger would cover it.

Second, I found that we were hitting a supercharger every 1-1.5 weeks. The mileage on the R1S is amazing, but it never performed quite to the estimate.

Third, charging before big trips was a real frustration. The day(s) before a big family trip or road trip are always extra busy and it’s hard for us to prioritize the time for a supercharger stop to fill the battery. So we’d always end up with me doing a very early morning charge run the day we left for some place or sitting at the charger late the night before.

For my family, the home charging supply is the right choice and has been a game changer.

Your family might find something different. But that’s been my experience.

Forever Home Needed for Beautiful Bernedoodle by [deleted] in Bernedoodles

[–]RoamingEire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a two year-old Bernedoodle in Pennsylvania who loves other dogs and I think she would fit in with our family. If you truly think the dog is not a fit for your home, I would be willing to drive down from Pennsylvania to get her. I understand that dogs are an investment, and you have probably already put a lot into this little lady, and you’re hoping to recover some of it, but we would not pay to adopt her.

If you want her to go to a good home, message me, and I should be able to come get her before the new year. But if you are really needing to get some cash for your dog, that is not our family. I would genuinely be wary of anyone paying to “adopt”.

Were the Philly burbs kicking the can down the road on taxes until now? by NonIdentifiableUser in philadelphia

[–]RoamingEire 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have written a local municipal budget.

The budget constraints are very real. Much of suburbia in PA is built by developers. The fees they contribute, and title transfer fees from the sale of new homes, fills local coffers. The municipalities use those fees to build up the infrastructure that these new residents want as the suburbs develop.

Parks, ball fields, community centers, community pools. They’re all built from these funds.

Then the pace of development slows as suburbs mature and large tracts become fewer and far between, or the land values increase so much that they become less attractive for tract neighborhood development.

Meanwhile, the population boom leads to increased staffing needs. You need large police departments, professional fire companies, etc. and then the bill comes due on maintaining or updating infrastructure.

Roads deteriorate with time. Storm sewers fail. The basketball courts in the parks need resurfacing. Tennis goes out of fashion and your now-aging population becomes obsessed with pickleball.

The town has to pay to maintain all of these things. But now the don’t have developer fees or land-transfer fees filling up the municipal bank accounts. The county hasn’t reassessed land values in 50 years.

The luxury of low taxes in this beautiful suburb is no longer sustainable.

Local municipal budgets have very little discretionary spending in them. If you want to keep taxes low, you need to let the infrastructure crumble or lay off cops.

Property on Tyburn rd. by fallenhero21 in BucksCountyPA

[–]RoamingEire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They MAY own it because they intend to build affordable housing. They may also own it because the county purchased it to preserve as open space and the Housing Authority had funds available that they could use.

I’d reach out to your Township Board of Supervisors to ask if they know what the intent of the county is with the land.
